About Maria & Robert

I have always been very interested in the Mallorquin building style, architecture, and culture. I have been professionally involved in designing many homes in Soller maintaining the traditional Mallorquin Soller style. The Mallorquin Soller style is quite unique as it is a mixture of different cultures. Many of the older properties were originally built during the Islamic period that at its longest lasted 300 years. You can still see the influence in the names of many villages like Bini Ali or Lluc Alcari or Bini Basi. Even some people claim the name Soller has an Islamic meaning. There were two Islamic periods the last one ending 1229 so there is still lot's of traces left, including many minarets in Palma city.

Maria & Robert purchased this cottage in 1992

Peaceful hideaway

  • 5 of 5

A lovely peaceful hideaway within easy reach of Soller. We hired a car which is probably not the best idea if you want to return it without scraped alloys! The streets are narrow with raised kerbs and unless you have a small car, forget it! We took Robert's advice and caught the bus to Palma and the orange train back to Soller. The Saturday market in Soller is not to be missed and ideal for pressies to take home. We highly recommend Hotel Salvia if you want to experience Michelin star quality food. Robert is very attentive and helpful and is very close at hand for any queries. The villa is in a shaded location with plenty of cover from the sun.

Tranquility of the mountains

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place, so tranquil and away from the hurly burly of the commercialised part of Mallorca. We spent a week walking and enjoying the mountains aided by Robert's advice and help. We plan to go back and explore more and will definitely want to return each day to this Casita for its peace, quiet and beauty.

Relaxation guaranteed

  • 5 of 5

Robert met us in Soller and took us through the very narrow streets and up the hill that winds its way to the Casita. The setting on the hillside in spacious grounds is very private, yet only 10 minutes walk down to Soller. The Casita is small, but perfectly formed! It has everything you need and great attention to detail is paid to the presentation of the property and the cleanliness. It was a delight to walk into such a lovely place after a tricky journey. Robert's hints and tips about where to go and what to do meant that we were able to buy our food from the best places, visit great restaurants and enjoy lovely walks. Soller is a lovely, cosmopolitan town and our only regret was that we had just a week here.

Great for ramblers, ornithologists...& epicureans

  • 5 of 5

The Casita felt secluded, being a little bit above Soller, but it was also near enough to stroll into town easily for a beer and some tapas.

We used the barbecue a few times, and sat on the veranda, watching the sun go down over the mountains and the distant sea. The birdsong in the garden was really enchanting, courtesy of some little warblers and a ‘resident’ nightingale. A handful of vultures circled over the faraway mountains (thankfully it wasn't the other way around, as their squawking and proximity to the bbq wouldn't have been quite so soothing).

We’ve stayed in Deia many times before, but on balance preferred this. It felt more Mallorcan, more authentic (i.e. not so many high end international estate agents for wealthy incomers). We managed perfectly well without a car. I’d recommend buying a decent walking book* and printing off timetables from the TIB website before you go - as buses are frequent and cheap.

Finally, Robert was really helpful and willing to recommend walks when asked. I would certainly stay here again. Great value for money too.

*We had Walk! Mallorca, but Robert recommended a good few more.

Enchanting Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This is the most wonderful little hideaway and the photographs truly reflect its charm, but don't show how private it is. Robert, the owner, met us at the property and went through absolutely everything we were likely to want to know, about the house, the immediate area and the island as a whole. A wonderful host. My only suggestion is, if you are thinking of hiring a car, the roads in Soller a very narrow as is the one up to the house, so don't hire a large car. We are most certainly going to go back as it was a wonderfully relaxing break from a very busy London and we would have no hesitation in recommending it to any of our friends. Thank you again to Robert and Maria

Excellent retreat

  • 5 of 5

Great little place about 1Km outside of Soller, which is not a hard walk even though it's hilly.Very tranquil and private and Robert looks after your every need, as well as being a great source of local info and conversation.

We suffered a bit with rainy weather but it was November!

Sitting outside for breakfast or evening meals and wine were our highlights. Highly recommended if you don't want to be in the heart of Soller but near enough to it to enjoy the many bars and restaurants there.

Soller and the Port are about half an hour drive from Palma airport and have very good connections by train, tram, bus, and taxi services. Situated on the West Coast 25 km from Palma town, 10 km from Deia, 3 km from Fornalutx and 3 km from Port of Soller. Palma has regular flight connections with most of Europe. If you are driving yourself from the airport: exit airport on the MA-19 West, direction Palma continue on highway MA-19 till you get to the exit MA-20, direction Andratx. Continue on highway MA-20 till you get to the exit MA-11. Take MA-11 to Soller. You will have two options to drive the mountain pass that is quite beautiful but very curvy and takes about 30 min or take the tunnel straight to Soller.

We can recommend hiking, and canyoning guides, the scuba diving center in the Port is well equipped and friendly. There are rock climbing sights within 20 min drive. There are rental boats, and kayaks in the Port of Soller, and water skiing.

Car rental is available in Soller so you can just rent the days you want to use the car for. On your departure you can drop off the Soller rental car at the airport. We recommend renting small cars.

The beautiful picturesque villages of Bineratx and Fornalutx are

a 5 min and 10 min drive or a 30 min walk.
