Newly-furnished flat, newly remodelled, in the centre of Avignon: 60m2. Big terrace: 60m2 with beautiful view of the palace of Popes. No noise. Air conditioning and WiFi, TV,DVD .
The Owner: Bertrand was personable, exceptionally helpful, honest, and very willing to accommodate my husband and me.
His Apartment: Bertrand's HomeAway detailed property information described the apartment exactly. Our experience at his property was excellent. It was quiet, well located in the city, and very clean. The third floor walkup size was perfect for two adults and could stretch to accommodate a third traveler on a futon couch in the living area. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and gadgets, the shower was large and the bathroom was newly remodeled. The bed was American king-sized. The views from the livingroom window were beautiful. The roof terrace was simply furnished with a small table, chairs and loungers. The views were amazing. Make sure you make time for a glass of wine on the roof while enjoying the scenery!
Avignon: I am a person who gets lost and disoriented easily. The town is very well layed out and the maps Bertrand provided made attractions and restaurants easy to find. The city was clean and felt very safe. For me, it was a beautiful blend of historic buildings with a modern feel. It felt posh, but not outside of the budget travelers comfort zone. Large, but not overwhelming.
Rick Steves, whose travel books my husband and I use religiously, suggests that when visiting Provence to stay in Arles. We are SO glad we didnt heed this suggestion! To us, Arles was too small, tired, and dirty.
October Weather: The weather was chilly for us Southern Californians, but manageable when wearing the right layers and shoes. Highs were in the 50's. The famous Mistrel winds did blow, but that did not stop us from seeing Provence!
The One Draw Back: I suppose there always has to be that one thing, while traveling, that makes the journey a little rough. Luckily, this one is small! Parking in Avignon is "pay parking" only and not easy to find close to the apartment. There is free parking just outside of the walled city with free buses routinely coming and going. It is about a 10 minute walk to the bus stop from the apartment. My husband and I drove every where we went so I can't comment on mass transit to and from Avignon.
My husband and I have traveled extensively; I can honestly say that this trip was perfection. Bertrand was an excellent host, his apartment exactly what we expected it to be, and Avignon as home base....beautiful!
Thank you, Bertrand, for making our 20th anniversary trip a lovely one!
Our pre-arrival dealings with the owner of this unique property were prompt, professional, and above all, like the apartment itself, perfectly clear in their presentation. Bertrand's "baby" as he affectionately calls this two level oasis of tranquillity, has the "wow" factor of spacious outdoor/indoor living, with the luxury of a roof-top terrace, literally with "palatial" views as only Avignon can proudly boast. The owner himself, not only effervescently friendly, is a mine of information about his beloved city and its environs. Directing us to the Pont du Gard, the Sunday antique/markets at L'Isle- sur- la- Sourge,, the medieval walled city of Uzes, the ancient Roman settlements of Nimes, Orange and Arles. Bertrand generously supplies his guests with a plethora of travel guides and maps. An enlightened selection of classical and lighter music is to hand. Avignon is unique to France because of its papal guests of the past. Indeed the Popes of old would have been proud to have Bertrand and his apartment as their neighbours.

I just returned from a 5-night stay at this charming Avignon property and found the owner, Bertrand, to be most hospitable and accomodating. He has gone through great lengths to make this VRBO rental feel like home and it shows. This unit has it all; view, location, amentities and most of all it feel likes home. I'd go back here year after year if I was to continously vacation in this area. If you are seeking a rental in a world-class destination don't hestitate to use this as your central location for touring the Provence region. Although a car is highly desirable for flexibility, it is not a necessity provided you are comfortable using the train. This unit is on a 3rd floor in a building that doesn't have an elevator so that should be considered in your plans. There are so many restaurants, bakeries and grocery stores withing a 5 - 10 minute walk that you won't go hungry. Highly recommended proveded it meets your needs!
We (a couple) always use apartments wherever we go, rather than hotels and this is definitely the best one we have stayed in without being the most expensive for the following reasons.
1. Bertrand. He had been very professional dealing with the booking and turned out to be a great guy and excellent host who welcomed us with a bottle of wine and explained in excellent English everything about the apartment and gave advice on things to do. In addition he has supplied the apartment with loads of useful info (maps, Lonely Planets etc.) on things to do. The flat is very well equipped and it is obvious that Bertrand has thought about the apartment from the lodgers’ point of view and really does go the extra mile to ensure your stay is perfect.
2. The apartment. It is clean and modern and finished to a high standard with a totally amazing room terrace that is all yours ~ gets sun all day (you can find shade too!) and has lovely views. For us having such a brilliant roof terrace near all the amenities of Avignon was better than staying further out and having a pool. This really is one of those occasions when the pictures really don’t do the apartment justice.
3. Location. Couldn’t be better. It’s a pretty quiet street and located up 2 small flights of stairs. Within old town, 10 mins to station (we were there for a week and didn’t bother with a car), bakery 30 secs away, supermarket 5mins, bar 1 min, restaurants and the heart of Avignon less than 5 mins.
Therefore as you can see we would definitely recommend this amazing apartment to others!
This apartment was all that the previous reviews claimed. We spent a week here to explore Avignon and Villeneuve, Bertrand met us on arrival and provided us with information and advice for a great visit to Avignon and other areas in Provence. The apartment was a delight, clean, spacious and comfortable and the terrace was a real delight. Extra touches included a vast selection of music CDs and movie DVDs.
The weather was quite hot and this apartment was so good to escape the heat especially in the evenings where we could sit and admire the Avignon view while having dinner.
The apartment was a short walk to the main street of Avignon. Each morning I walk to the boulangerie to buy delicious bagettes and croissants.
We would recommend the property to others looking for a base for travelling in the area, we actually went to Marseille one day so you're not limited to Avignon.
We just departed after a wonderful week in this apartment. The owner met us upon arrival and spent an entire hour explaining everything about the apartment and giving us very detailed travel advice for the region. We were able to park for free just outside the city walls less then a 10 min walk from our Avignon home. The views from the large rooftop terrace is amazing and its a great place to enjoy an early or late evening glass of wine or Pastis. There is no lift, so renters must be able to climb the steps, but we actually enjoyed the exercise.
