About Wade and Patricia Evans
We are a product of on online dating. Patricia moved from MN to the Northern Hills in 1979. Wade was born in Spearfish, but was living in Colorado, counting days until the next time he could get back the 'The Hills'.
Wade and Patricia Evans purchased this Recreational Vehicle in 2014
Why Wade and Patricia Evans chose Hot Springs
When we found the property online, we fell in love with the house... and Wade the shop. But after we came to see it in person and walked to the cliff... well, it was just amazing. You have to see it in person to understand. Everyday, we tell our 3 dogs and 3 cats, 'we are going to the cliff' and we all take a hike together, stopping just to sit and look. Seems like every hike, we see something new, we never noticed before. So nice here, we had our wedding at the cliff edge in 2012. We have a hard time figuring out where to 'go' for a vacation... we feel we are living in our perfect vacation spot and now we have discovered that we really enjoy sharing our favorite spot and the chance to meet new friends in the process.
What makes this Recreational Vehicle unique
We want every guest to feel right at home and provide everything you could ever need. We treat our guests as family... that traveled from across the country and have what they need to relax and prepare for the best vacation possible. We know most families only get 1 or 2 vacations a year, we are very honored to be a part of that experience.

Patricia and Wade were great hosts. We enjoyed our time there very much. The RV is nice and the view is spectacular.
The only negatives we could even pick out is the inside being a little dusty but I believe that's the pollen coming in through the windows. The location was also a bit of a trek for our Custer Stae Park based activities but that was just our unawareness of actual travel times vs distance. All in all, I would reccomend anyone stay here looking for rv type accomodations.
South Dakota Sightseeing Trip
My mom and I took my two kids (10 & 12) on a road trip to SD to see Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, etc. We used Sandpiper camper as home base, as we live 13 hours away. We had some mishaps along the way and Wade and Patricia were so helpful and understanding through the whole process of checking in late at night. The camper was clean and well-stocked, the hot tub was delightful and the views from the deck were amazing! The kids had a great time running around when we were in between trips. The only thing I would let people know is that everything is at least an hour from Hot Spring - Mt Rushmore, Rapid City, etc. Plan ahead for timing! It's also a dirt road, very steep drive to the property from Hot Spring with a lot of steep switchbacks - dont make the first drive to the property when it's dark :) We had a great time and good to be back again!
Loved staying in the RV. The location was prefect. Wade and Patricia are great owners and host.
A Fun & Exciting first RV experience! Totally pampered.
We had never stayed in an RV before, let alone a deluxe one like this. It was a real posh introduction with loads of space and comforts of home. Wade & Patricia are ideal hosts. The property is scenic & serene, all equipped for a great vacation. There are other campsites nearby, but your privacy and great views from your windows are secured by perfect placement. We LOVED the hot tub, hammock, and dining with a view. There is so much to see in this lovely part of the country and this was a relaxing location from which to base our hiking and adventures to monuments & parks. Unfortunately, we had bad weather to deal with, which dampened our weekend, but the camper was cozy and the hot tub made up for it. The proximity of the cliffs was somewhat breathtaking but made for a beautiful view over the valley below.
Stay in a luxury RV in a beautiful relaxing space
When I came across the Evan's property on VRBO, I thought it looked like the perfect spot to go for a mini vacay-- and it is! My husband & I were looking for a halfway spot between UT and WI to meet up eventually with my parents. We needed to get away & enjoy a couple days together. This property fit the bill and close in proximity to the town of Hot Springs. We loved that the sandpiper provided all amenities needed and we could still be in a quiet beautiful spot with views over the bluffs. It was like luxury camping without much 'camping'. Wade & Patricia prepared everything we needed for the stay and we walked into a very nice RV w/ a gas stove, full fridge, TV & fireplace. The amenities allowed us to cook breakfast & dinners together without leaving the quiet property. This was our first RV camper experience-- and it was very fun! Wade even prepared the hot tub for us and a portable fire pit on the deck. We thoroughly enjoyed both while it snowed on our visit! Very beautiful. The RV was spacious enough for the 4 of us to have a good visit. There is even a pull out sofa near the fireplace that my husband & I were able to comfortably sleep on. Wade was very kind & helpful to us on several occasions. He helped charge one of our vehicles dead car battery. Then, on our day of departure he helped my parent's vehicle get unstuck from all the snow received!
Staying in the Sandpiper was a great experience, and I highly recommend the hosts!!! They've done an amazing job on their property. The 4 of us said that we would love to stay in the Sandpiper again in the future since it was a pleasant & refreshing getaway. If you get the opportunity to stay here-- take it. And I'd also recommend visiting the Wild Horse Sanctuary nearby as the paid tour was one of the highlights of area mini vacay! A peaceful stay, beautiful views, enjoying a hot tub in the snow and seeing wild horses-- what else could you ask for? Thank you Evans for everything!
Beautiful clifftop views, peaceful, quiet and serene. Convenient location. Positively spectacular!
All the creature comforts of home with all the benefits of camping. This location is perfect for exploring everything the Black Hills have to offer as well as Hot Springs. The best part is coming back after a full day to a home-cooked meal, a hot tub with the best views, and a soft bed. It was the best vacation we've had in years because we had no cell service up on the cliff - so relaxing to be unavailable! We did have wifi, email and imessage which wasn't enough to disturb the peace and quiet found so close (5 miles) to town. Pack for every weather condition - we arrived with temps in the 90's on Saturday but by Monday the highs were in the 50's - there is an outfitter in Hot Springs though if you find yourself wanting. We even got several inches of snow on Friday but alas it melted before we returned from the buffalo roundup. Wade and Patricia are the perfect hosts providing everything you need but clothes and food. They even entertained our Rita (poodle child) when she couldn't go with us on a few jaunts. Truly spectacular views and an all around wonderful experience. We enjoyed the Badlands, Spearfish Canyon, Devil's Tower, Mt Rushmore and Crazyhorse, wineries/breweries tours, Custer State Park and the Buffalo Roundup (don't miss this!), Deadwood, and Needles Highway. We also enjoyed Hot Springs itself. It really deserves some hoopla. The locals were fabulously helpful and friendly. Such a lovely little town with several attractions of its own - the Mammoth Site, the hot springs, and the wild horse herd. We will be back! Till next time Evan's Cliff! Thank you Wade & Patricia!!!
