About John and Linda Shelley

Linda and I are a friendly, fun loving, and dedicated couple. We have been happily married for 27 years with 4 children and 3 grandchildren. We grew up in New England and decided we really wanted to get away from the cold. We were attracted to Belize for a number of reasons: English is the national language, currency is based on the US dollar, (1US=2Bzd) the weather is tropical with little threat of hurricanes. We fell in love with Ambergris Caye. It's one of the most delightful places in the world. The people are so friendly, the scenery is beautiful, and the diving and snorkeling is spectacular.

John and Linda Shelley purchased this studio in 2014

Why John and Linda Shelley chose San Pedro

We bought this house because it is one of very few private oceanfront homes that does not share the beach or lot with any other houses. This is a house you can simply feel at home in. It is not stuffy or pretentious yet it has all of the conveniences you would want. It is designed for comfort and fun.

What makes this studio unique

This house is located in a perfect location. 4.5 miles from town is far enough to be peaceful and quiet yet close enough for quick trips to town when you want more things to do.

Absolutely fabulous experience

  • 5 of 5

Linda and John were the most fabulous hosts you could ever imagine. The website does not do the property justice, we were blown away by the beauty of the property, and the condition it is kept. Betty and Pablo were at our beckon call for any needs, no matter how often we relied on them. We had Betty cook an authentic Mayan fish dish cooked in a huge banana leaf and grilled on the BBQ. The experience and taste was out of this world. We traveled to town with Linda or Pablo a few times, including watching John perform as a musician at a couple of local bars, in their Honda open seated 4 seater off road vehicle. On our final day John and Pablo took us to the reef (5 minutes away) to enjoy snorkeling for an hour, after the charter boat went mechanical at last minute. Breakfasts every day were fabulous, changing daily, and catering to any dietary requests that were made. I HIGHLY recommend enjoying the hospitality and great experience called Shell-ease by the sea.

Rest and Relaxation at Shell-Ease by the Sea

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at John and Linda's "Shell-Ease by the Sea" for 9 days and couldn't have felt anymore relaxed and welcomed as we did at their oasis. From the Groundkeeper Pablo to the housekeeper Betty, everyone made us feel comfortable and welcomed.

The breakfasts that John prepared were amazing and you never left the table hungry. We even had Betty the housekeeper prepare us a few suppers and they were delicious as well.

John and Linda's B & B is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro, but yet close enough to get to by water taxi if need be. It really is the perfect location to just sit back and relax on the beach or sit on the dock and watch the happenings in the sea all around you. There is snorkel equipment to use as well as kayaks and floating chairs to lounge in. The water is as clear as imaginable and is teeming with life. A long walk up the beach every morning always produced something different to look at and everyone you pass was very friendly.

We booked a couple of snorkeling trips with Noel as our guide and to say the least he is absolutely amazing. From swimming with Sharks, Rays and giant Turtles to feeding Tarpon we did it all and the personal experience gained from his expertise and joining everyone in the water is unmatched. The day long trip to snorkel and a visit to Caye Caulker is a must. You will not be disappointed.

Even Gypsy the watch dog and Tigger the cat were friendly and always up for a petting.

If you are looking for a place to sit back and relax and be pampered, this is the place for you. We truly had a wonderful time and left there fully recharged.

Thanks John and Linda for being who you are.

John and Anita

Great location, wonderful property, amazing hosts and staff!

  • 5 of 5

This is one of the best vacation we have had for fishing and snorkeling! Shell-Ease By The Sea is perfect on the beach, 4.5 miles north of San Pedro, so you are away from town, but still able to hop on the water taxi to town. Linda and John are great hosts and we left thinking of how we miss them as friends! John cooked amazing breakfast for us and was accommodating on the breakfast times since we had early morning departures on our fishing trips. Linda was amazing with planning our excursions and they were all great! The staff - Isabelle and Pablo - were always there to help us with luggage, laundry etc, and always with a smile. We also miss Gypsy, the Australian Shepherd. Linda and John even invited us to join us for Christmas dinner!

For our snorkeling trips, we were thrilled with our guide Noel who is the friendliest guy as well as knowledgeable about the reef and fish. We thoroughly enjoyed his company. The 2 snorkeling trips were simply amazing - water clarity, beautiful reef and lots of fish, and perfect weather and water temperature.

For fishing, we went flats fishing with Omar, deep sea fishing with Sea Star, reef fishing with Noel, and night fishing with Daniel. We caught a total of 125 fish, 21 species in all. The best are the wahoo, bone fish, queen triggerfish, barracuda, dog snapper, cubera snapper, horseside jack and tarpon! Lots of snappers, and groupers for dinner!

We plan to return in the future!

Last night I dreamt of San Pedro...

  • 5 of 5

Shell-Ease by the Sea is truly a slice of paradise! First off, you are scooped up at the airport and transported to the villa where you are greeted by Linda with a rum punch in a fresh coconut. John and Linda Shelley are very warm and friendly people that make you feel at home the moment you get there. Our suite was very comfortable and nicely decorated with many little extras such as Belizean snacks, fresh flowers, towel sculptures, toiletries, and more. We appreciated the AC at night because we are spoiled :) The staff, Pedro and Isabel, are so sweet and keep the grounds and house immaculate. They're always handy for anything you might need...coconut anyone? Isabel cooked Mayan fish for us one night that was awesome! John is a first rate chef and served up daily breakfast feasts which were different everyday but always delicious and kept us full for a long time! He also prepared a fresh lobster dinner that we all enjoyed, so good! There are kayaks, paddle boards, snorkel gear, and floats at your disposal. We can't say enough about how far the Shelley's go to make your stay special and worry free, from arranging golf cart rentals to helping us with our other travel plans; they go the extra mile and have thought of everything. Linda was always offering us fresh smoothies and iced coffee and bringing us snacks from town. She has more energy than both of us, lol. John is also an accomplished musician and we had a lot of fun catching one of his gigs at the Dive Bar. Now for the snorkeling trips we took with Under da Sea Adventures, also arranged and operated by the Shelley's and their amazing guide Noel...of all the places around the world we've snorkeled like, Hawaii, Tahiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, and the Virgin Islands, Belize is the BEST!!! If you snorkel or dive Belize is the place for you. Noel is a very gifted guide with a crazy ability of spotting sea life no one else can see. Thanks to him we swam closely with a manatee, loggerhead turtle, nurse sharks, rays, morays, and a huge variety of fish and coral. He gets in the water with you and points out many things you would miss otherwise. We've never had a guide do that before. Don't miss Hol Chan, Shark Ray Alley, Mexico Rocks, and feeding the tarpon on Caye Caulker! We had a late flight out and the Shelley's welcomed us to stay past check out and then took us to the airport. We’ve stayed at many places on VRBO and other sites but Shell-Ease is by far the very best! We look forward to returning!

We came for our honeymoon and had a great experience. John, Pablo and Isabel were truly great to us. The property is clean, beautiful and remote. Go on the all day snorkel trip leaving from the pier!

Very relaxing!!

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from a week with John and Linda and had a really nice time. They really are wonderful hosts-- couldn't have asked for anything more..... John would cook a HUGE awesome breakfast(on his grill), that would literally keep us full through the afternoon. Sometimes we would take off with John and listen to him perform at local bars--very cool!! Water is just steps away--enjoyed my morning coffee and afternoon beer at end of pier each day! Gypsy (the dog) is a sweetie and very well behaved if anyone is hesitant because of a dog being around----Tigre (the cat) is cool too. :) We liked the fact that is was away from town so we had the feeling of "getting away from it all"---just had to walk to end of neighbors pier to catch water taxi to town! Would highly recommend --Mollie and Chris

There are a couple nice restaurants nearby and the Mata Grande grocery store is a stone's throw away and has a nice variety of items. Going into town is a great way to meet the locals and do some shopping in the square where many vendors set up their wares. Amazing snorkeling sites are just a few minutes away.
