ABOUT THE NEIGBORHOOD

Marghera is the mainland part of Venice, well connect to the island by public transportation system and buses to Venice run every 10 minutes.

Città Giardino_Marghera is an apartment located close to Marghera city center, next to Piazza del Mercato, Marghera’s main square.

We decided to call our apartment “Città Giradino_Marghera” because the city center of Marghera was conceived in the 20s as a utopian garden city, following the philosophy of the most important English garden cities.

Marghera is mostly known as the Port of Venice but actually it’s a leafy mainland suburb that hosts tree-lined avenues, parks, and easily-navigable walkways and it will offer a truly relaxing travel experience.

Città Giradino_Marghera is part of a small condominium located in a residential area where locals live, far away from the mass of tourists crowd into Venice.

Two of the rooms face the condo leafy garden, the kitchen and the third room face the street which is pretty quiet. The view from those last two rooms is not an excellent one, but just a stone's throw away from the home, you have everything you need: shops, café, restaurants, pizza places, chemists', bank, post office, supermarket, and the daily food market where you can find fresh fruit, vegetable, meat and fish. The weekly local market runs on Tuesday and Saturday, you can’t miss it!

Marghera houses a tight knit community of people coming from different countries as well as Venetians who left the island part of the city. Roaming the neighborhood you might happen to stumble on a local wine shop recently reviewed by The Guardian, a Chinese coffee bar making good Italian coffee, and some buzzing Venetian ‘osterie’ (small wine bar + restaurant) serving ‘cichetti’ (traditional Venetian tapas) and good wines at reasonable prices. If you wish to find out more about the community of Marghera, check The Guardian article out, Take a break from Venice – across the lagoon in the garden city of Marghera. We’r really proud of it! :)

When you are ready to head into Venice, you are always just a 15 minute bus ride away! We even have a whole bookshelf full of guide books for guests who want to see all Venice has to offer.

Sweet Place

  • 5 of 5

A group of 3 couples stayed here one night pre cruise. It was fairly easy to get here from the airport and then to the cruise port. I am sure we were quiet the entertainment dragging our suitcases through the quiet city center. We took the tram all the way to Plaza de Roma instead of the bus. It may have taken longer but was easier to manage with our luggage and was cheaper. The apartment was quiet and well furnished. Everything was very clean. We enjoyed being in a quiet neighborhood away from the tourist in Venice. We felt like we were emerged in the culture for a short while. I loved opening the large windows and feeling the breeze and hearing the sounds of the neighborhood. Anita was a wonderful host! She has a great map of the town and gives very good directions. We ate at Pizzeria Ristorante Da Gigi. The food and the service was great. We ate outside on the covered patio.

I would stay here again.

Pleasant apartment, convenient to public transportation

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was as described in listing. Very clean with nice kitchen and bathroom. The owner was responsive and very helpful.

We took the airport bus to the Mestre train station and the T2 tram to the Mercato bus/tram stop. The apartment is a 5-10 minute walk from there.

At the train station it took us a moment to figure out how to get to the tram. Google Maps refers to the tram direction as towards "Salamonio" while the sign at street level says that the tram goes to "Marghera". Once we went down the stairs to the tracks we saw a route map that refers to the direction as "Salamonio (Marghera)". The route is now part of the "T2" tram line instead of the "T1" tram line.

We watched some Rick Steves videos where he strongly encourages people spend the extra money and stay in Venice itself to experience the city after dark when many of the tourists have gone home. You can still do that. There are buses that leave Venice at night and will drop you off at the Sant Antonio bus stop. It's on the same street as Mercato and only adds two minutes to the walk to the apartment.

Recommended.

Great Apartment, not so great neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

The apartment itself was 5 stars, but the neighborhood was iffy at best. It helps to have your own car especially at night. Bus stop is a 5 minute walk away to get to Venice. Owner was extremely nice and accomodating. The apartment is great for large families and was immaculate. Has fast WiFi.

Owner's Response: Dear Daniel, thanks for your nice review. That was a pity you stayed for one night only and I can understand you did not enjoy the area. Usually people who stay here for a more days get to love the neighborhood as well because It's a residential area where locals live, far away from the mass of tourists. It's also nice having a chance to walk through Marghera and its leafy alley. Hope you will come back sooner or later, I would be happy to show you the neighborhood, tell about the story of this place and let you discover little gourmet places around. Thanks for coming. Best, Anita
