About the property

Relax & unwind in a luxury fully equipped detached house with private garden

French for ‘dryer’, the term Sechoir means a barn for drying tobacco in, which was and still is a common crop in our local farming community.

The barn conversion was completed in 2007 and has been successful every year since in attracting many clients who desire a place to relax and unwind in peace, tranquility and with easy access to all the attractions the Department of the Dordogne has to offer. Please see our testimonials on our web site.

The barn has been faithfully restored to provide the comforts of modern living while retaining the features and intrigue of the original design. The ground floor is split level with the lounge on the lower part. The lounge has a large wood burning fire with comfortable seating for 5 in front of it. Entertainment is available through the English and French satellite TV, DVD and CD player. The oak dining table and chairs seat 5 comfortably. On the upper level of the ground floor is the kitchen which has modern units and high quality appliances. Cooking by electricity with a four ring ceramic hob and electric fan oven. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and refrigerator. Going up the stairs to the first floor there is a landing cupboard containing the hot water system and cleaning / ironing. On the first floor among the exposed beams to the right is the terrace bedroom which has a double bed and doorway leading to the morning terrace with a table a chairs overlooking the private garden. There is also a fold up bed making the total sleeping capacity 5 (in beds). We have a baby bath, baby gate, high chair and travel cot.

We provide complimentary Welcome Pack on your arrival containing wine and local bread and cheeses.

Perfect place to chill and unwind

  • 5 of 5

We have just got home and we are already wishing we weren’t, we had a wonderful time in the Dordogne, and the accommodation was perfectly delightful and very peaceful just as you described, and your welcome basket was very much appreciated, it was a wonderful week with perfect weather and the perfect location to unwind, eat and sleep well and to explore the beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed watching the wild life whilst sitting on the patio in the morning, we saw a young hare, a red squirrel, a woodpecker, a cheeky Robin and lots of other birds to.

We noted that there was a barbeque and a bread oven ‘available’, however, too much self-catering was definitely not on our agenda so we ignored them and went to the local restaurants, of which there are many!

We would recommend this property to everyone who seeks peace and tranquility with all modern conveniences and shops and restaurants within a 5 minute drive.

A quiet and comfortable vacation in the Dordogne.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house for two weeks. We came for the quietness, the nature, the climate and, last but not least, the comfort in the house that was advertised. We found all these things. The hosts, Melanie & Mark, were very friendly and helpful. They live close to the house, but were very discrete. The property is surrounded by woods and fields. It is well located for visiting a lot of interesting villages, small towns and medieval chateaus.

We surely will recommend this house to friends who are looking for nature and quietness.

Thank you, Melanie and Mark, for the warm welcome. This house was all what we expected.

Kind regards,

Bert & David (Belgium).

Paradise Found!

  • 5 of 5

Chaucer may have lost it , the Newland family have certainly found it. A small piece of Paradise set in the most secluded spot you could want for. Our hosts discreetly provided for all our needs.

We will return here and recommend this wonderful place to anyone who enjoys, seclusion, nature, and quiet. The great thing is that there is so much to do in the environs that you are in no way isolated from a whole bevvy of activities for all ages and all members of the family.

Unreservedly recommended

Holiday cottage

  • 4 of 5

We had a very pleasant stay in this quiet location with waking up at cockcrow.

Perfect place to take a rest for a few days, visit the Périgord and its many castles.

Nice quiet place

  • 5 of 5

We really loved to be in this house, located in the middle of the forest, in a quiet atmosphere and close to the main places of Dordogne. The house was well renovated, in the pure style of the region and with all the necessary accomodations. The owner- Melanie - was nice and helpful.

Rooms are really pleasant. You feel at home.

We really recommand this place!

One suggestion: change the lay-out of the plumbing in the kitchen in order to avoid to have water everywhere around ! + more crockery in order to be able to use the washing machine."

Owner's Response: Thank you for the positive comments. We have not had issues with the layout of the tap next to the sink. If the tap is directed in the sink there is no spillage. In respect of the amount of crockery, there is sufficient to cater for a family of six and this would not fill the dishwasher.

Located mid-way between Gourdon and Sarlat local shops are 5 minutes away in Grolejac where you will find a supermarket, butchers and bread shop as well as a bar and restaurant by the lake. The property is less than 15 minutes away from the stunning medieval towns villages of Sarlat, Gourdon, Domme and le Roque Gageac to name but a few. You can enjoy swimming in the river or the local lakes all of which have either pebble or sand beaches and canoe trip are less than 10 minutes away. Accessible from Grolejac, the old railway line between Sarlat and Souillac has been converted to a walking / cycle way several kilometres long and even if you don’t bring your own, you can hire bicycles from local businesses at St. Julien de Lampon or Carsac.

Capital of Black Périgord, Sarlat is an exceptionally preserved city. More than 1.000 years of architecture live through lanes, roofs of roofing stones and fair and hot stone walls. Domme is a very attractive bastide town, in one of the best locations possible and is possibly the most beautiful town in the Dordogne. The village of LA ROQUE-GAGEAC is almost too perfect, its ochre-coloured houses sheltering under dramatically overhanging cliffs and is regularly winner of France's prettiest village contest. In the Middle Ages, Gourdon was an important place, deriving wealth and influence from the presence of four monasteries. Owing to the number of rivers and the local geology the Dordogne has some magnificent cave complexes. You will find two different types: 'Gouffres' are underground, whilst 'Grottes' are accessed from a rock face. There are spectacular villages built around cliffside troglodyte dwellings
