Relax & unwind in a luxury fully equipped detached house with private garden
The Sechoir is located mid-way between Gourdon and Sarlat and local shops are 5 minutes away.
French for ‘dryer’, the term Sechoir means a barn for drying tobacco in, which was and still is a common crop in our local farming community.
The barn conversion was completed in 2007 and has been successful every year since in attracting many clients who desire a place to relax and unwind in peace, tranquility and with easy access to all the attractions the Department of the Dordogne has to offer.
The barn has been faithfully restored to provide the comforts of modern living while retaining the features and intrigue of the original design. The ground floor is split level with the lounge on the lower part. The lounge has a large wood burning fire with comfortable seating for 5 in front of it. Entertainment is available through the English and French satellite TV, DVD and CD player. The oak dining table and chairs seat 5 comfortably. On the upper level of the ground floor is the kitchen which has modern units and high quality appliances. Cooking by electricity with a four ring ceramic hob and electric fan oven. There is a dishwasher, washing machine and refrigerator. Going up the stairs to the first floor there is a landing cupboard containing the hot water system and cleaning / ironing. On the first floor among the exposed beams to the right is the terrace bedroom which has a double bed and doorway leading to the morning terrace with a table a chairs overlooking the private garden. There is also a fold up bed making the total sleeping capacity 5 (in beds). We have a baby bath, baby gate, high chair and travel cot.

We had a great time!
Ideal base for exploring this part of the Dordogne- excellent cycling roads and very close to Stage 10 of this year's TDF route. The property has everything needed for a relaxing break, and is set at the end of a very quiet wooded lane. Mark and Melanie gave us a warm welcome (thank you for the welcome pack!) and were on hand if we needed anything. There are a few local restaurants but we decided to use the BBQ every night which was under a covered area so ideal when a few evening summer storms arrived.
The local boulangerie in Grolejac is excellent- best bread and pastries we have enjoyed on our many visits to France.
Plenty of lovely old towns with plenty of history within easy reach by car- Sarlat, Souillac, La Roque and Gourdon all worth visiting.
Also a few river walks starting in a nearby Veyrignac.
Thank you for our lovely stay!

Thank you for the review. It was lovely to have you.
Peace and Tranquility
Delightful location. Very peaceful. Just what was needed.
A beautifully restored building in quiet surruondings.
We were lucky to spend a week of blue skies in this wonderful place in a very peaceful area . The house contained every thing we needed for a comfortable stay. The surroundings were very pretty and we started with a local path in a book we have. We were surprised to find the car park in the village full and all the roads too. This surprising busyness was quickly explained as there was a charity walk on! We did enjoy being there and the locality gave us good access to the surrounding area.

Excellent in all repects would definately use this gite and Own ers direct again.

Perfect place to chill and unwind
We have just got home and we are already wishing we weren’t, we had a wonderful time in the Dordogne, and the accommodation was perfectly delightful and very peaceful just as you described, and your welcome basket was very much appreciated, it was a wonderful week with perfect weather and the perfect location to unwind, eat and sleep well and to explore the beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed watching the wild life whilst sitting on the patio in the morning, we saw a young hare, a red squirrel, a woodpecker, a cheeky Robin and lots of other birds to.
We noted that there was a barbeque and a bread oven ‘available’, however, too much self-catering was definitely not on our agenda so we ignored them and went to the local restaurants, of which there are many!
We would recommend this property to everyone who seeks peace and tranquility with all modern conveniences and shops and restaurants within a 5 minute drive.

Thank you so much for your kind words :)
A quiet and comfortable vacation in the Dordogne.
We stayed in this house for two weeks. We came for the quietness, the nature, the climate and, last but not least, the comfort in the house that was advertised. We found all these things. The hosts, Melanie & Mark, were very friendly and helpful. They live close to the house, but were very discrete. The property is surrounded by woods and fields. It is well located for visiting a lot of interesting villages, small towns and medieval chateaus.
We surely will recommend this house to friends who are looking for nature and quietness.
Thank you, Melanie and Mark, for the warm welcome. This house was all what we expected.

Located mid-way between Gourdon and Sarlat local shops are 5 minutes away in Grolejac where you will find a supermarket, butchers and bread shop as well as a bar and restaurant by the lake. The property is less than 15 minutes away from the stunning medieval towns villages of Sarlat, Gourdon, Domme and le Roque Gageac to name but a few. You can enjoy swimming in the river or the local lakes all of which have either pebble or sand beaches and canoe trip are less than 10 minutes away. Accessible from Grolejac, the old railway line between Sarlat and Souillac has been converted to a walking / cycle way several kilometres long and even if you don’t bring your own, you can hire bicycles from local businesses at St. Julien de Lampon or Carsac. Capital of Black Périgord, Sarlat is an exceptionally preserved city. More than 1.000 years of architecture live through lanes, roofs of roofing stones and fair and hot stone walls. Domme is a very attractive bastide town, in one of the best locations possible and is possibly the most beautiful town in the Dordogne. The village of LA ROQUE-GAGEAC is almost too perfect, its ochre-coloured houses sheltering under dramatically overhanging cliffs and is regularly winner of France's prettiest village contest. In the Middle Ages, Gourdon was an important place, deriving wealth and influence from the presence of four monasteries. Owing to the number of rivers and the local geology the Dordogne has some magnificent cave complexes. You will find two different types: 'Gouffres' are underground, whilst 'Grottes' are accessed from a rock face. There are spectacular villages built around cliffside troglodyte dwellings
