About the property

An ancient stone barn, with garden, quiet place surrounded by woods

The house was a typical barn done in stone and wood, recently restored respecting the original forms and materials. It has private garden, peaceful place with a charming view on mountains, woods and over the medieval village.

It has two apartments: 2/4 sleeps the one at the ground floor (Apt. Ginestra),

4/6 sleeps with two bedroom at the first floor (Apt. Pervinca). Each independently and with its own private garden.

PARKING: The historic center of Breglia is pedestrian only, access by car for charge/decharge is 30 meters from the house, and a large free public parking is at 100 meters.

If you want to immerse yourself in Italian culture, to find the Italy of the olden days, this is the place to do it: quiet, comfortable base to explore the area, the village (Breglia) is not affected by tourism but at few minutes from the most famous Lake places.

Breglia offers beautiful views, green woods for a refreshingly peaceful and restorative stay. Good place for keen walkers: from Breglia start numerous hiking for all levels of difficulty. Some routes slide into the woods and reach old lake villages, others rising on mountain above the town, with stunning views of Lake Como, Lake Lugano and the Alps. In the apartment you will find all sorts of tourist info.

The house has two gardens: the one in front of the house is reserved for the apartment Ginestra, like a balcony overlooking the medieval village, is fenced and planted with flowers for every season.

Behind the house is a large private garden reserved to the apartment Pervinca: from the living room a door leads directly to the garden, large, fenced, full of flowers and trees.

The restaurant - bar "Breglia" is at 50 metres from the house, it offers good traditional italian food, breakfast service, lunch, dinner.

Why Lucia chose Breglia

This is a little medieval village (Breglia, municipality of Plesio), was the birthplace of my ancestors. Restful, surrounded by woods, here we enjoy panoramic walks between woods, along scenich paths, just a few minutes drive from the most famous (also busiest and noisy) places around the lake. To find parking is never a problem here: there is a big space close to the Church square, free and without time limits. The village is bus served. There is also a good restaurant close to the house: they serve excellent meals with little expense.

What makes this apartment unique

The big apartment Pervinca, at the first floor, is spacious and well equipped. It has a wonderful big garden behind the house that we decorated with many varieties of flowers for each season, Japanese maple trees, conifers and fruit trees. There is also a children's playhouse, and a barbecue. In the most sheltered and shady corner I created the 'shade garden' with ferns, blue bells and other flowers that love shade.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We have had a fantastic 2 week stay in Ginestra. The apartment was very clean and well equipped. It was perfect for us, a couple with our dog. The garden was great, a place to relax and enjoy your surroundings and the nice views. The apartment and garden are secure although you don't feel it necessary. The neighbourhood of Breglia is very friendly and everyone speaks. The public car parking is near the church in the village and there is always plenty of space to get parked. Lucia was fantastic from the start she made us feel very welcome and was really informative in regards things to do / see in the area. She provided us with information leaflets and maps which we found very useful. She was willing to help with anything and was so kind. There are many walks from the village that provide you with stunning views of Lake Como. We eat several times at the Hotel Breglia, the meals were lovely and reasonably priced.

Overall we have had a brilliant stay, I would definitely recommend Lucia and her apartments. We would love to return and hopefully we will!

Owner's Response: I am very pleased that my guests have found their perfect vacation here! The peculiarity of Breglia is the calm of a medieval village surrounded by greenery, where the inhabitants have preserved the friendliness of the past. The hotel restaurant Breglia is located 50 meters from our apartments is an excellent solution for those on vacation wanting to find a great dinner or lunch already ready! Enzo the chef prepares a different menu every day.

A Perfect Family Holiday in Rural Italy

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for the perfect family getaway and you want a taste of rural Italy, then this is the holiday for you. We went in April, a glorious time to go – fewer tourists, but still the flowers were on show and the temperature hung around a comfortable 19-20 degrees.

The house was beautiful and the village was like going back in time. Breglia is steeped in history and hasn't changed much for hundreds of years. The children were free to wander the many tight labyrinthian alleyways; running and hiding amongst the medieval buildings, while my wife and I relaxed on the balcony of the house, overlooking what was essentially a glorified playground. There is even an alpine-looking hotel serving food, beer and ice-cream!

The village is positioned in the hills, about 20 minutes of winding chicanes above the tranquil shores of Menaggio (beautiful, serene – more lovely ice cream - about an hour north of Milan, and close enough for a day-foray into Switzerland). Many of the villagers still live in Breglia, but the place really is a picture frozen in time; slow, rustic, and safe. The children (ages 12, 10 and 7) loved it!

From Breglia there is so much to do. The house overlooks Lake Como and surrounding mountains; birds chatter and busy themselves in the garden, the odd raven echoes in the distance, and the area is teeming with cute little lizards. But it is the people that made our stay particularly memorable. From local shopkeepers to the friendly crew onboard Como’s cruise-boats (relaxing, inexpensive and a great way to explore other lakeside wonders), the local Italians made us feel most welcome.

None more so than Lucia, our host, who simply could not do enough for us, and made us feel totally at home. Lucia is a local historian and writer and knows everything about the area! Our holiday began weeks before our stay, through emails describing walks, excursions and other details that Lucia thought would be of interest to us. She was there waiting when we arrived, with chocolate eggs for the children (it was Easter, a nice touch!), and was such a fountain of knowledge and useful advice. Lucia really went that extra mile and our holiday was so much the better for it. The house itself was lovely; supremely clean and just how we wanted it. The garden was long and perfect for outdoor eating, but it was the village itself that was the best entertainer for the kids!

I cannot recommend the house, Breglia, Lucia, and the area of Lake Como highly enough.

Perfectly suited to a couple with two dogs!

  • 5 of 5

Breglia is a lovely place to spend a relaxing and peaceful holiday, greatly enhanced by the kindness and welcome of Lucia, our host. The apartment is well furnished and well presented, with everything that you could need for a successful holiday.

What was particularly welcome for us, was the reception our two dogs received from all and sundry and that there was a small garden where they could roam freely.

Breglia itself is a small medieval village with very narrow passageways between the houses which makes it interesting and picturesque. There is one hotel/restaurant in the village which offers a super “menu touristique” at a reasonable price. Taking Lucia’s advice, we bought day tickets for the ferries working the central part of Lake Como and spent a really pleasant time exploring some of the towns and villages along the lakeside.

All in all, a lovely holiday in amazing surroundings.

Séjour reposant

  • 5 of 5
