A converted 17th century barn in a rural, medieval hamlet. Originally built before the Vendee wars and bears the scars of being burned by troops of the revolution in the 18th century. It has been lovingly restored to preserve its character and history and offers all modern comforts and accommodation for up to 6 guests.
It is spacious with lots of natural light and is furnished to the highest standard for 6 guests. A perfect base for exploring the Vendee and its history especially the Puy du fou - or simply relax and enjoy rural France and its Atlantic coastline.
A choice of two holiday homes in an ancient rural hamlet near Sigournais and its medieval chateau. Both are detached ancient buildings which have been lovingly restored to retain their character and are furnished and equipped to the highest standard. Both are fully accredited 3* gites. Sigournais is the perfect base from which to explore the Vendee and its rich history, to visit many “attractions” (including the Puy de Fou), to explore the Atlantic coastline or simply to relax and enjoy the charms of rural France including its flora and fauna. Sigournais (population c1000) has one shop – a general store that caters for day to day needs and a bar/restaurant. The nearest large town/shopping centre is Chantonnay, which is about 10minutes away by car. The Vendee enjoys a “micro climate” which delivers as much sunshine and similar temperatures to the Cote d’Azur.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay in the beautiful Vendee. The Barn has everything you could need for a relaxing home away from home - with all the creature comforts you might need. The layout made for a great atmosphere in which to relax and enjoy the local food. From its rural aspect, the Barn is also a great central location for exploration and we were able to take in both Nantes and La Rochelle to experience the city life. Most days we ventured along the local country lanes which had some of the most gorgeous outlooks. I was pregnant during my stay and when we realised that the facilities included all the baby gear, we quickly decided to return again in the summer with our new arrival. You will not be disappointed with this holiday spot!!
Myself, my partner and our 2 and a half year old daughter spent a really lovely week in this barn conversion.
The property is extremely well-equipped and was very clean and we had everything we needed for the week and more. There was a stair gate for us to put upstairs on the mezzanine where our daughter was sleeping and Vanessa arranged for us to have some other baby/toddler items as well. It was lovely to sit in the garden and eat and we used the BBQ and our daughter enjoyed running around and playing outside.
We also made use of the wifi to do last minute research on the places we wanted to visit.
The barn is in a very tranquil village. Its surroundings are really beautiful and we were within a comfortable reach of lots of different paces of interest both inland and on the coast for day trips.
We would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future.
Excellente location, très propre, super contact avec Vanessa Labern, aucun souci pour le règlement et le remboursement de la caution.
Très documenté. Puy du fou très proche. Calme, que du bonheur,
A refaire au plus tôt
The Barn is a beautiful cosy French cottage with all the luxuries you need for a relaxed vacation. The Barn is situated in rural France in a quiet but pretty village called Sigournais.
The owner, a British lady, is very friendly and thoughtful.
For urban pleasures such as shopping, broad choice of restaurants and activities for children you shouldn't come to Sigournais. For relaxing and experiencing the real French rural life though, you couldn't make a better choice than renting The Barn!
The house is perfect for couples and small families. For bigger families you can rent the other property of the owner which is situated in the same homestead as The Barn.
Thanks for a lovely vacation!
We spent two weeks in this accommodation in Chantonnay in August 2011. Barn has all the mod cons and in great condition. Nice private back garden where we could sit out and bbq in the evenings. Local village nice and lake nearby was very convenient if you did not want to do a big trip on a particular day. Vanessa was very helpful and we would have no hesitation in recommending it as a great base to relax and also explore the region.
My husband and I stayed at The Barn in late May early June 2011 or one week. We had been in France for almost five weeks and this was the most relaxing and enjoyable of our time there. Our hosts had made our stay very comfortable and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. The property was exceptional clean and well maintained. It had everything we required including a variety of books, internet, music, TV. Beautiful herbs outside for use when cooking gave it an extra homey feel. The owner went out of her way to assist with any queries and indeed, went the extra mile in providing customer service. Beautiful waks in the countryside with very friendly though not intrusive neighbours. We would highly commend The Barn to any prospective holiday makers.

Spend a day at the beaches of Sable d'Olonne, la Tranche or la Faute, take a boat out in the Marais Poitevin (green Venice of France). Go for lunch in La Rochelle and antique hunt in the afternoon or see the sights. The Lac du Rochereau, 5 minutes from the Barn, is probably one of the most beautiful spots you have ever seen. You can swim from its beach, take a boat out, have a picnic, admire and paint the views, or try fishing for carp. Go for a day's sightseeing or shopping in Nantes or Poitiers.
30 minutes from either Puy du Fou - the history of the Vendee (www.puydufou.com) or Futuroscope - games, adventure and more (www.futuroscope.com)
Nearby there's riding, horse racing, surfing, water sports, cycling, running, golfing and even night clubs for the enegetic! Also there's ballooning, bird watching, walks, forests, canoeing, many places of historic interest, markets, a zoo, villages, lots of bars and restaurantsfor the not so energetic.
Sigournais is only 25km from the Puy du Fou, the second biggest tourist attraction in France after the Eiffell tower. This is a spectacular day out for all the family.
Other Activities: wildlife, boating, swimming, museums, shopping, restaurants, Puy de Fou, Vendee coast, chateaux, birds
Golf: There are 4 golf courses all within an hours drive.
These are Les Fontenelles. Famous for its driving range, this golf course with its many hedgerows provides an excellent succession of water features, maritime pine and oaks over 2 miles.
La Domangère. The highest slope in France with a wealth of shots to be played, this is a delightful course that those in search of new challenges will want to experience. (This is supposed to be one of the more difficult golf courses in France).
Port Bougenay. On the edge of the sea and bordering an enclosed forest, this golf course overlooks the marina of Port Bourgenay. With hedgerows and pine forest, this course provides a two-in-one experience.
Mazieres en Gatine. Set amongst lakes and ancient trees, this course produces surprise after surprise behind each hedgerow.
