Boutique Romantic Villa in Sardinia

Bedrooms 1
Space 538 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, sleeps up to 4 people

One bedroom boutique romantic villa in rural setting on the North Eastern coast of Sardinia.

The villa is inspired by our travels in Asia, and is furnished with antiques we have shipped to Italy from China, Thailand, India etc. It has two huge covered patios, scattered with vintage furniture, including an upholstered Chinese day bed. There is an integral barbeque outside, ideal for lazy dinner parties. Inside the villa, the facilities are of a high standard with a fully equipped kitchen area, with a large SMEG vintage-style fridge-freezer, a modern and comfortable sofabed, a washing machine, and a large flat-screen TV with integral DVD player & an iPod dock. There is a luxurious bathroom with a bidet. In the bedroom, there is an antique four poster bed from Burma, and a ceiling fan to keep cool at night. Designer sheets, towels and beach towels are supplied at no extra cost.

The villa is set in a secluded and enclosed two acre overgrown garden, planted with a huge variety of palms, Mediterranean trees, shrubs and flowers. The garden is surrounded by farm land and olive groves and has dramatic views of granite mountains.

It is the perfect place for people who want to enjoy the best beaches in the world that Sardinia has to offer, with white sands and clear turquoise water, but at the same time avoid the summer crowds by relaxing in a private environment.

About Peter Washer & Efisio Mele

We are a British / Sardinian couple who live in London, but with an extended family in La Caletta, who greet guests and help them settle in. We have also spent our own holidays in La Caletta for over 20 years, and we always look forward to returning.

Peter Washer & Efisio Mele purchased this villa in 2000

Why Peter Washer & Efisio Mele chose Nuoro

When we bought this property it was an abandoned wreck. Since then, it has undergone several renovations and extensions. The house initially stood in an empty field and we planted every one of the thousands of trees, shrubs, palms, cacti, yuccas and flowers than now cover the two acres of land. It has been on Holiday Rentals since 2006.

What makes this villa unique

If you're looking for somewhere in the centre of a town or village which is walking distance to bars and restaurants, then this house is not for you. If you're looking for somewhere quiet, which is away from the crowds of tourists, particularly in July and August, and don't mind a five minute drive to the beach or the nearest village, then it will suit you down to the ground. We have never had a disappointed guest.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Good morning Peter, just a quick line to say that Karina and I had a fantastic time in Sardinia, the weather was perfect, 100% sunshine with a very pleasant breeze on the beach. Thanks very much for all your help and please pass on our thanks to Efisio & Caterina for their hospitality. I will be passing your details onto friends and colleagues and I'm sure we would like to hire your villa ourselves again in the future. Kindest regards Julian, Scotland.............................. Dear Peter. Thank you for your email. I was just on the point of sending you one saying how much we enjoyed staying at your house. We had a wonderful time, very peaceful and relaxing and the house was just great with everything we needed. Katarina & Efiso were also very kind and welcoming. We would certainly recommend it to others. Thank you also for your advice re beaches and places to visit - we did the boat trip to Cala Gonone etc which was very good and we enjoyed exploring the area. Tim, London.

Dear Peter,

it was very nice to stay in your house. It is really very beautifull, tastefull and also contains everything we needed. We will never forget the great sunrises on the veranda. The garden is --- a paradise! And so is the island --- a wonderfull experience. We will surely return some day.

Oase der Ruhr

  • 5 of 5

Vacanza perfetta, casa e luogo ideali.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great holiday in this fantastic villa.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great holiday in this fantastic villa.

The villa is in the countryside a quick 5 minutes from the wonderful Sardinian seaside village of La Caletta. It’s tucked away but once you know where it is it is very easy to find. The location is brilliant, you can be on a main road in a matter of minutes but also very quiet as it is in farmland beneath some impressive mountains.

Inside the villa is everything that you would expect or need for great holiday. The bed and sofa bed are comfortable and it was very well appointed. In truth however we spent little time inside. There are two huge covered verandas overlooking the apparently never-ending garden full of tropical plants and trees. One veranda is set up as a dining room the other as a living room with its own ceiling fan and sofa. It was in these outside rooms we spent most of our time. There is also a wood fired oven area which was great for BBQs.

The local area was real eye opener. The countryside is beautiful and the coast road to Oresei is at jaw dropping. We also went high up into the mountains and the views from Sant’Anna shouldn’t be missed. Restaurants in the nearby villages (Santa Lucia & Siniscola) were excellent and the local wine was superb value.

I would recommend this villa to anyone who wants a quite retreat near to some world class beaches and towering mountains. It’s wonderful if like us you just wanted to relax but I am sure runners, cyclists, kite surfers, kayakers etc would also find this place a great retreat after a day of activity.

Perfect holiday hideaway

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for your e-mail, and even bigger thanks for providing us with the perfect property and location for our holiday.

As all of your visitors have remarked, your villa really is the ideal destination for a relaxing holiday, like a sanctuary from where you can choose whether to have any involvement with the outside world or not; we couldn’t fully appreciate just how perfect it was going to be, until we arrived and had sat and admired the location and the house for all of 5 minutes…..The whole place was just what we wanted, the new bathroom really good, and as for those fantastic outside verandahs with the incredibly comfortable sofas – we hardly moved from them !

Efisio was charming and told us all we needed to know, and made himself available, should we have needed to contact him – we didn’t ! – and it was good that we had no disturbances from anything or anyone throughout our stay.

La Caletta is a great little place, even though it was only half open to be fair – but mid-May was never likely to be that lively, and that suited us too; we tried most of your recommendations, and, with the exception of Mama Mia in Santa Lucia (which was clearly not quite ready for customers at this early stage of the year !), all were great, particularly liked Sa Tanca e Bore, which we would have happily returned to, other than guessing that we might be served exactly the same food as the first time (good though it was, there was so much more that we wanted to try !).

We also particularly liked L’Ostrica in La Caletta (we visited 4 times, having really enjoyed the pizzas - and the girls there are lovely) and our favourite, Il Moletto at Capo Comino, which was just so special, and what a location ! Just mentioned these in case you’re looking for more recommendations for your future visitors.

Thank you again, Peter, for all of your recommendations, they made such a difference in helping us to decide where to start, not having visited Sardinia before, let alone your particular area.

There is so much more we could say – all of it good – it’s difficult to know where to stop; needless to say, we will return at the next available opportunity – we just hope that things don’t change too much, it would be a shame to lose any of the natural beauty and simplicity that appeal so much to us.

Thank you again for all of your help, and again, for allowing us to enjoy the perfect holiday in La Caletta.

Away from the crowds

  • 5 of 5

This property was just what we wanted - peacefully set far away from the nearest village and with loads of outdoor space. You can arrange the furniture to create an outdoor living room. The beach between La Caletta and Santa Lucia is huge and there is lots of free parking under trees. We particularly enjoyed Posada and had a great meal there. Exploring further afield we drove extensively through mountainous regions including the Orientale Sarda road, which is really worth the experience. You also have the numerous prehistoric nuraghe sites to explore. I would recommend that no-one leaves Sardinia without trying some pure honey nougat from Tonara, or some of the unique pasta, fregula. The property had everything we needed and was very comfortable - so much so that we found ourselves preferring to spend the evenings at the villa enjoying the ambience. All in all we had an extremely pleasant and relaxing time at the villa and would recommend it unreservedly to anyone who wants to get away from the crowds and have their own space to enjoy in a great climate.

The villa is set in farmland in a valley between the small town of Siniscola and the sea-side village of La Caletta, which is 3 km away (a five minute drive). La Caletta also has the nearest beach, although this stretch of the Sardinian coast offers numerous other amazing beaches. There are tourist boat trips from La Caletta to the stunning marine park of the Gulf of Orosei. La Caletta itself offers a wide range of restaurants where you can eat traditional Italian food, fresh sea food, or sample Sardinian cuisine and wine. There are several bars (all family-freindly), ice cream parlours and an evening street market in La Caletta in the summer months. Siniscola has a few excellent restaurants, which tend to be frequented more by locals. The area has loads to offer for nature lovers and outdoor pursuits, such as horse riding and diving, as well as those wishing to discover the coast of Sardinia without swathes of tourists. Easyjet flies to Olbia airport, which is 30 minutes drive north.
