LOCATED ONLY 9 MILES FROM THE SOUTH ENTRANCE TO LASSEN VOLCANIC PARK
GREAT FOR FAMILY'S
'Great get away from it all Vacation'
Our 3 story cabin is nestled on a hillside of forest. The 2nd story contains the main living area with living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms with King size beds, and 1 bath with a nice deck facing the mountains. It is great fun to sit outside watching the sun rise over the mountains in the morning and watch the shooting stars at night. Our kitchen has lots of counter space, is equipped with a dishwasher and ample cooing utensils and dishes. The utility room, located off the kitchen has a washer and dryer with a back door that lead to the outside barbecue area.
The first story contains an entrance hall and one bedroom with twin futons and 1 bath. This room has its own TV which offers privacy for children or adults.
The 3rd story is one large room with one double bed and 3 twins.
The Mineral Lodge provides a grocery store for milk, bread and other items you may have forgotten. Their restaurant serves excellent meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a full bar for wine or cocktails. There is a small resort in Mill Creek, 6 miles from Mineral which serves good food and real homemade milkshakes. Chester is 30 miles distant with a large grocery store and a bank.
I grew up in Mineral. My family owned and operated the Mineral Lodge from l920 until l980. I am currently retired and living in Red
Bluff after selling Real Estate in Mineral for over 30 years.
Jo Ann Perkins purchased this cabin in 2005
I purchased the cabin so I could use it at times and have it available for others to enjoy the area.
Quiet and peaceful with lovely mountain views, Great climate with afternoon breezes
Lassen Volcanic National Park close by, only 9 miles from the southern entrance. Lassen provides great hiking trails and picnic spots, plus swimming in Summit Lake and a climb to the top of Lassen Peak.
Had a great stay here over a long weekend.
A group of friends and families came up for snow play during the day and
music, games and camaraderie in the evenings. Easy access to Lassen
and other cross-country ski trails.
OK, five stars may not be a good description of the place, but after reading
the other reviews and looking at the photos I knew what we were getting and
it met our needs well. With all the beds filled and the cost divided up, everyone
thought it was a great deal.
It's definitely and older place, and maybe a bit run-down, but was clean, and
comfortable. Any issues have been compensated for, like the non functioning
wall heaters, with plenty of space heaters. I'd recommend the place, but do
read the other reviews. Some have written a lot more than I will, and they tell
you all you need to know. Hope to use the place again next year
We were a group of 3 families with small children and found this cabin to be a good fit for our needs. As others have noted, the decor is rustic and dated, but it's a funky mountain cabin, and it didn't much matter to us.
We loved the proximity of the cabin to the Lassen visitors center at the park's south entrance (15 minutes). There are fantastic sledding areas there. No need to go anywhere else for snow play, and the convenience of being so close meant that we could go play in the snow in the morning, come home for lunch and naps, and then go back out for some late afternoon sledding again.
The kids (ages 3 and 4) loved playing in the loft—this was a big plus—but future guests will want to know that it's not baby/kid-proofed (there is a gate available), and there's a dangerous ledge that we made off-limits for them (but of course they only partially complied). The one dated thing that really did make a difference was the stove/oven. Future guests may want to note that the stove has two burners and a griddle instead of the standard four burners. The front burner doesn't heat well (water won't boil no matter how long you leave it on high), but there was a separate hot plate burner that the owner has added on the counter, I'm sure to compensate for that front stove burner. Definitely helped, but if you're cooking for a group, which we were, not having the other two burners can be challenging. Future guests may want to plan meals that can be at least partially cooked in the oven or on the grill. Speaking of...the grill has a gas burner on the side, and we used that as well. The griddle is great for pancakes and french toast. The oven temp and length of cooking seemed to be right on the first time we used it, but the second time it seemed to take about twice as long as my oven at home, so future guests will want to watch their oven-baked dishes a little more carefully than is normally required.
There are so many places to sleep—I envision this place being fantastic for families with older kids who would be happy to make their bed on one of the many futons. The loft has a bunch of twin beds plus a double, and there are two bedrooms with king-size beds, plus a room with a couple of futons.
We had one issue with the property that was related to the weather, and the owner (Jo Ann) resolved it fairly and quickly. Communication was good.
You should read other reviews - yes, this is an older house. However, it's a prime location for Lassen National Park and very spacious, with lots of beds and plenty of room for everyone. We had a great time!
We rented this cabin knowing and expecting it to have a more rustic feel and not a modern updated cabin. This cabin had everything we needed. Dishes, all bedding (linens, blankets and pillows), washer and dryer )very helpful with rain and snow) comfortable beds, games, a large table to hang out around, toys and movies and plenty of room for my family to hang out with each other for 4 days without feeling cramped. The welcoming feel of the cabin made me feel like I was staying at my grandparents cabin. JoAnne, the owner was very helpful from weather updates to letting us stay later than anticipated after being stuck without a car due to issues with our rental. If you want a place in the mountains to relax and enjoy quality family time., place where you can sit by the fireplace and enjoy your coffee and watch it snow, a place where your kids can play and have fun, then I highly recommend this place. The Mineral Lodge just down the hill has this same rustic feel. I hope they don't change a thing about this place we we look forward to our next trip there.
It's like visiting your Aunt's funky cabin in the woods! It you want everything sparkling and up to date, it's not for you. If you like some adventure and a sense of history it's very fun.
There was plenty of room for the adults and kids. The kitchen had a crazy amount of stuff! Great coffee maker, grill and dishwasher. The rest is dated but works fine.
The best thing is the location. The cabin is set against the hill in the trees and never got hot - in August! You are 25 minutes from the Mt Lassen peak trailhead w/o traffic.
This is a beautiful place to land in the evening after a full day in the park!!
There was one issue in the house during our stay and JoAnn and Frank took care of it quickly.
Overall a good experience.
We had six adults and four kids. Its not a fancy cabin but its clean, comfortable, and well supplied. Hard to get that much closer to the South Gate. I communicated with Jo Ann and she was friendly and responsive. One thing I have to mention was how much the kids (3-5 yrs old) adored playing in the loft. They called it their secret treehouse room. Would have given 5 stars but its an older cabin which was plenty fine for us but maybe not for others.
