This very quiet apartment (50m2) is in an old, fortified town centre. It has been carefully fitted and furnished and is an ideal base from which to visit the listed world heritage sites in the town (medieval citadel, Midi canal) and the rich history of the region (Chateaux, abbeys and picturesque villages). Your holiday is made easier by the free parking nearby and free shuttle to the citadel. And not forgetting Carcassonne beach, Cavayere lake, the relaxing atmosphere and lots of leisure activities. This is a diverse region stretching from the Lauragais plains, across Corbiere's vineyards, through Minevois (home of the famous blanquette) and to the the Mediterranean Sea. Don't leave our region without having tried the cuisine: cassoulet, foie gras, duck fillets...We will tell you all the best places to eat.

First rate,... a recommended location and Gite.
We had a wonderful week in Carcassonne. The location of our Gite was perfect for walking around the city, the Midi Canal and the must see medieval castle.
The location was also conveniently situated for our planned trips to surrounding locations including, Andorra, Toulouse, Ax-les-Therese, Narbonne and the Mediterranean coast.
Our self catering Gite was as per the advertised HomeAway photographs. Everything was available to cater for our every needs during our stay.
We were met on arrival and welcomed and similarly at the end of our stay to say our good-byes. Ongoing communication from the beginning of our selection was brilliant, we could not wish for more.
If your looking for an authentic French experience at a very competitive price look no further, go ahead and book, you will not be disappointed.
Many, many thanks you are so kindly!
It was a real pleasure to receive you 2 and hoping to see you again.
Stay Short or Long: you'll enjoy it here
From booking our stay to departure, Danielle was extremely responsive, providing quick and satisfying results to all of our needs. The apartment was as advertised and the internet connection was fast. The outstanding features of the apartment were a comfortable bed, a fabulous shower and remodeled bathroom, and as expected a functional kitchen. It was also nice having a washing machine as we were there a month. The entrance is secure and we felt safe, and rue Voltaire was quiet at night. The location is perfect for walking all over the Bastide and it's only a 15 minute walk to the castle and the train station. The Canal du Midi is adjacent to the train station and we enjoyed several lovely canal walks. The walk along the Aude River is also worth taking.
We did not need a car for our stay, but there's a free parking lot behind the apartment, and we took advantage of that when we rented a car to explore the Cathar castle region. We ate our main meal at lunch, usually the plat du jour, and we tried restaurants in Place de Carnot as well as in La Cite (medieval city). We recommend Adelaide for the cassoulet and Le St. Jean for whatever they're serving—both serve tasty and reasonably priced meals.
Because we were doing a long-term stay, we wanted to feel part of how people live, and that's what happened. Our boulangerie owners got to know us, welcoming us right away. (The croissants at Boulangerie Deshormieres on 83 rue de Verdun were stunning!) Within a few days we were completely oriented, having walked every street in the Bastide. Overall, the people of Carcassonne were, like Danielle, friendly and helpful. We highly recommend a stay here.
Carcassonne is set up for tourists so you'll find it easy to navigate with people willing to assist you.
Many, many thanks for your review so detailed and so kindly and good fellowship.
I am pleased to know you well arrived in Seattle and it was a real pleasure to receive you.
You are wonderful people!
Perfect apartment for a sunny winter stay
I stayed a month in the apartment whilst working in Carcassonne. It had literally everything I needed for a perfect stay, everything was clean, well maintained, the whole process of booking and checking in was brilliant and Daniele couldn't do enough to help.
Great location, away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the main squares but only 2 minutes walk.
Many,Many thanks Vicky you are a Wonderfull guest..
Hoping to see you again.
Felt like temporary citizens of Carcassonne!
My husband and I stayed 30 days in Danièle's top floor apartment (second floor walk up). It was as photographed, full of light with delightful backyard garden view from front room. The apartment is well stocked with kitchen items,as well as, ironing board/iron and washing machine. The location at the edge of the Bastide is convenient to shops, Carnot Square, public parking, and about 15 minute walk to the castle. It was quiet and comfortable. Daniéle was very responsive when making reservation and during our stay and even offered to pick us up at train station. She is excellent host!
I have stayed in Carcassonne many times but this was the first time in a private, French owned appartment. Everything you could possibly need was supplied and this made it feel very homely. It was clean, very well located and the owner was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend it and would book again.

The apartment was the perfect size for 2 people for a week long break. The location was in a more residential part of town but was a quiet area and had the benefit of free parking close by. Only a short walk to local bars and restaurants but about 20-30 minutes to old Cite more touristy part of town. Second (top) floor location of apartment may prove difficult for older clients or those with children as stairs up are narrow and twisting. Only minor thing lacking was a shower that attached to the wall (you had to hold the shower while washing) and the bathroom was a bit dated. But the amenities in the rest of the apartment were excellent and overall it was good value and an enjoyable stay.
Of all the ports in Languedoc-Roussillon, l'Aude boasts a diverse landscape (sea, mountains, crop fields, vineyards, plains and valleys). Carcassonne, with it's old city and Midi canal, is in the centre of the region so is a great base from which to explore the area. Castelaudary to the west is the place for enjoying Cassoulet. Limoux is further south and offers sparkling blanquette. Narbonne on the coast has an historical town centre and an easy-going lifestyle. Enjoy the route through the vineyards of Corbieres and Minervois or the route via the abbeys in Lagrasse and Fonfroide. North, south, east and west - there are lots of unforgettable things to see.
