Kelly and Doug the owners of Hermosa Bungalow #28.
We live in sunny South Florida were we enjoy outdoor activities like, boating, sportfishing, surfing (Doug), gardening and yoga.
The Owner purchased this bungalow in 2005
We have been traveling to Costa Rica for many years in search of waves. While traveling back from Pavones one surf trip we stopped by Hermosa to check the waves and to our surprise they were building homes in front of the surf break. Shortly after that visit we purchased the beach house.
Some of our favorite things about the beach house are
1. The covered back terrace which is great for viewing the monkeys and other wildlife or stars at night.
2. The beach house is close enough to the beach and pool yet far enough from the excitement to be able to take a nap on the porch.
3. The decorating makes the house romantic and cozy.
4. The beach house is close to everything, Jaco, Los Suenos, Manuel Antonio. You can even take a day trip to Arenal.
"2 friends and I spent 2 nights at Bungalow #28 and loved it. The location was perfect. Very quiet except for the wildlife sounds outside. It is a short walk to a surfer's beach, and the pool is close by too. Pool area was especially nice to relax with plenty of lounge chairs in the sun or shade, and even a couple hammocks. I loved sitting on the back porch early in the morning to watch the scarlet macaws and other birds flying past. Definitely bring your binoculars! The bungalow is equipped with all the basics and extras like beach towels and a dvd player. It is beautifully decorated, with nice paintings on the wall and comfortable furniture. Bungalow is also a short distance by car from Jaco's restaurants & grocery stores, while avoiding all the people and noise of Jaco. We'd highly recommend this bungalow and hope to return."
From check-in to check-out, this property was a breeze. This small community of 30 or so beach cottages was perfect for our group of 4. The home sits about 100 yards or so off the beach allowing your to hear the waves from the porch.
Upon our arrival, the house was clean and seemed ready for us. The home had everything we needed in terms of amenities, which gave us a great feel of a home away from home.
I do recommend having a car rental in this area to help your group get around. There are taxi services in the area but it is much easier to get a ride back to the house from town then vise versa. The home is situated about a 1/4 mile off the main highway on the dirt access road in Playa Hermosa. This is a surfers paradise as there are tons of consistent waves up and down the beach in Playa Hermosa. The one downfall of this beach is that it is Black Sand which makes it very hot to lay out on but the community pool offers a great solution to this.
Jaco is the largest town in the area and is about 10 minutes north via car. Once you spend a day or two in Jaco, you'll realize you made the right choice by staying in Playa Hermosa. We stayed here during mid-August and the weather was perfect!
The house as awesome, the hospitality was amazing, the communication was convenient. Thank you for the memories!
We were really excited to stay at this Playa Hermosa Bungalow. While the place was clean and the location was beautiful there were some key things that were not as described.
First of all, no drinking water was provided. This was a real bummer, as we had just flown overnight and driven from SJO and wanted to relax on the front porch with a nice cup of water. We ended up taking one of the empty 5 gallon jugs to Mas X Menos and getting it filled. I let the owner know and she made no apologies or effort to reimburse us.
There is no telescope, nor long distance phone calls or a helpful property manager who will assist you with tours. For some reason, the maid did not fully make the beds, so we were without a blanket for one of them. Aaron did provide us with one of his, but it was not clean, but we made do. We did not feel comfortable asking him for anything after that point-- there was a certain vibe to him that made you feel as if you shouldn't bother him.
I did let the owner know about the telescope and phone calls and she basically played ignorant.
Had we known that some of the descriptive items were not available, nor accurate, we probably would not have gone with this house, as these were selling points for us.
Some of other property managers were much more interactive and friendly. I would suggest renting a bungalow from them if you want to be able to feel comfortable asking questions about what to do in the area and where to go.
Besides all of the "surprises" we really did enjoy a peaceful vacation. We spent a lot of the time on the front porch. There is a nice ocean view. On the back porch we spent time looking at all the birds and animal visitors. We did get to see the monkeys. We lounged in the pool and the hammocks and felt quite relaxed. Victor, the fisherman, came by our place and had delicious catches. A walk along the beach to some of the restaurants was a fun time. The Backyard has a nice happy hour going on. The Bluegrass Cafe had delicious cinnamon rolls.
And, make sure you take a trip to the waterfalls: Tres Pascinas.
Me and My wife enjoyed our short stay at your cute beach house.
It was very clean and everything so neatly decorated.
It is just very short walk to beach. The view of the ocean is nice. The waves are amazing there. A/C was great after hot day on beach. Having Washer and Dryer was so cool at end of vacation. No wet dirty clothes to take home.
I was surprised by the community pool. very neat design and very clean tile pool. Two resident iganas were fun to watch.
This time of year it was really nice on beach. 7am beach was packed with surfers that put on a nice show. After 9am when locals went to work. We were only people on whole beach. Our own private stretch of beach. WOW!!!!
One day would like to have house just like yours.... We will be back....
We have been traveling to Costa Rica to surf and vacation for 15 years staying anywhere from hotels to hostels and everything in between. This bungalow was the nicest and safest place to date. With a nighttime security guard on duty, swimming pool, full kitchen wi-fi and AC in the bungalow, it had everything we could have asked for. This unit is beautifully decorated and well maintained. The full time residents are friendly and the overall experience here was excellent!
Great place to stay! The bungalow was quite spacious for a family of 5. Loved the back deck! The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Peaceful! Pool awesome! The beach quiet without the crowds. Twinka the property manager awesome! She will definitely take care of all your needs from excursions to recommendations for dinner. Great place for a family reunion! I would definitly return!
This was the first location we stopped at in Costa Rica and didn't want to leave. The Bungalow was absolutely everything we could want in a beach property. The place itself is very clean and comfortable. The kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, and living room were clean and spacious. The wi-fi didn't work that well, but we also didn't spend too much time in the house with so much to do outside. The patio was perfect to hang out and drink coffee each morning. The cable TV was great also and we were able to catch a couple US football games!
The location is perfect. About 100 yards from the beach and with a beautiful grove behind the bungalow (didn't see any monkeys) but plenty of birds. The surf was great with really fun waves. It was never very crowded either. The property manager recommended a great place to rent a surfboard about a mile away - Nika's surfboards are a great deal about $15 for 24hrs and a good selection of boards.
Food in Playa Hermosa was our favorite of the trip with fresh seafood everywhere. Our favorite was Jungle Surf with fresh fish daily. There is another couple "sodas" smaller restaurants in the area that the property manager recommended and we really enjoyed as well. Great food at really good prices.
We also checked out Jaco, but can't really recommend that place. Really heavy tourist town. Prices for everything were higher than other locations. Not as relaxing and clean as Playa Hermosa.
The property manager was extremely helpful and had great recommendations for everything. She went out of her way to help return a camera I had left at the house. We were about 5 hours away in Arenal/Fortuna and she arranged a driver she trusted to bring it to us for a small fee. I can not thank her enough for that trouble and for being so honest as the camera is valuable.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone and look forward to coming back! This was our favorite location of the entire trip even more than Arenal and Tamarindo. The perfect surf getaway.
