I booked the apartment of a month this time. A group of friends stayed for a few days over Kings Day and the apartment was in a brilliant location to enjoy all the festivities. The best part was the karaoke state on the bridge over the Prinsengracht! For the last couple of weeks, I was on my own and always felt completely safe - even walking back to the apartment late in the evenings. Amsterdam is such a beautiful city in which to lose oneself.
As usual, Marcelle was a pleasure. She's such an interesting lady and I have really enjoyed getting to know her over the last few years. She is certainly committed to her guests' comfort and wellbeing and nothing is too much trouble.
The majority of Marcelle's guests are return visitors and I think most of us have come to think of this as our own little part of Amsterdam.
My wife and I spend two weeks in Amsterdam, and the rental could not have been better. Marcelle and Ivan were very accommodating. Location was perfect. Walked everywhere. Very quiet for sleeping but very near a lot of activity, restaurants, etc. Would recommend.
A perfect location for first timers, closely and conveniently located. The place was surprisingly bigger and more spacious than expected, and was perfect for a family of 4. We could walk everywhere we wanted to visit, and we could relax in comfort in the apartment.
We so enjoyed our week in this gorgeous apartment! Ivan and Marcelle are both lovely & extremely welcoming hosts.
Our family of 4 (kids aged 9 & 11) had an amazing week, making this our home. We were all so comfortable both in terms of spaciousness (so nice to have multiple rooms to enjoy) and sleeping arrangements. It was perfect. The apartment is beautifully decorated with a view right out onto a canal. It was a treat to experience life in a historic canal home.
The location is EXCELLENT. Amsterdam is a walkable city and we felt as if we were right in the center of everything, within a 10-20 minute walk. Also very convenient for all public transportation. Many dining options right outside the door. As for the main tourist attractions...again, 10-15 minutes away. We would highly recommend visiting the Canals Museum (Het Grachtenhuis), first thing (located a 5 minute walk from the apartment) as it is an excellent museum that shows you how Amsterdam came to be, using animation, visual effects, movies and sound effects.
Thank you, Ivan & Marcelle, for a wonderful week. We cannot wait to return!!
First of all the positives:
1. Marcelle and Ivan are absolutely wonderful. They are clear with their communication, kind, thorough, and helpful. I have stayed with them twice now and I hope to stay with them many more times.
2. The location is perfect. Transportation from Schipol to the apartment is easy and the apartment is close to everything. Although in perfect proximity, it is also peaceful. The ideal balance. I have spent much time in Amsterdam and this place is a winner.
3. The apartment is well appointed and comfortable.
So why not five stars....
The only bummer is that the second bedroom is really not a private bedroom. The room adjoins the other bedroom and is only separated by French doors. As well, the bed is two twins put together and is not super comfortable. I was travelling with two other adults and the sleeping conditions was not perfect. If you were a family travelling with a young child or teen, it would work fine. However, for three adults it was not perfect - and I only give five stars when things are perfect.
I would highly recommend staying with Marcelle.
My travelling companion and I stayed in this accommodation for a week in September. It was our first trip to Amsterdam and we couldn't have asked for a better location. The major museums, such as the Rijksmusem and the Van Gogh museum, were only a short walk away. We were near the major canals and within walking distance of most of the desired tourist attractions. There are a choice of good restaurants, as well as two grocery stores nearby. The house is large, with many period features and extremely clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The art work and decorating touches made the place unique. We often sat at the table in front of the large canal-side windows to eat dinner or to enjoy a glass of wine while watching the passing boats. It was truly magical. The owner was very efficient in helping us with the booking arrangements and was at the house to greet us and to give us a introductory tour. She also gave us excellent suggestions on what to see and do during our stay. Her warm welcome made us feel right at home. You couldn't ask for a better place to stay in Amsterdam. I would gladly return.
