About Dan and Cathy Griffiths
We are currently local's living on Douglas lake in nearby Dandridge, relocating from several other beautiful areas including Vancouver BC by the Rocky Mountains, Columbus Ohio, and Ontario Canada near Niagara Falls. We have been using vrbo to book our own vacations for several years now and prefer the flexibility of fully functional and private vacation homes over hotel rooms .
Dan and Cathy Griffiths purchased this Chalet in 2014
Why Dan and Cathy Griffiths chose Chalet Village
We love our house on the lake but always seem to be bringing guests to Gatlinburg. We missed the rocky mountain views of Vancouver, and one view from the deck sold us on this chalet. It's a view that needs to be shared. Close to the action and fun in Gatlinburg (plenty of live music on the weekends), but just a short drive up ski mountain road for plenty of relaxation, privacy, and scenic views at the chalet. We were used to mountain roads but found this was one we were more comfortable driving to (and we found the Gatlinburg bypass is a nice alt route if we want to avoid the city traffic and enter on the south side of town where the first light is ski mountain road). The front of the property is terraced with some stairs to climb, but you get to enjoy great mountain views without a scary 40ft drop off the edge of deck like other mountain side properties we have stayed at. You will see the town of Gatlinburg from our front deck and a great view of Mt Leconte. Off street parking can handle up to 3 cars.
What makes this Chalet unique
Watch the tram climb to the ski area. Most of the year when the tram windows are open you can hear the excitement as they gently swing over one of the main towers right in front of the chalet. See the beautiful fall mountain leaves change color, and on the right day see why they call them the Smokies. Most guests have commented on the incredible morning sunrises as they enjoyed coffee on the front deck, can be very colorful on the right day when there is a little breaking cloud cover.

The location is perfect. The view is amazing and yet you’re still a short drive from attractions / restaurants. The cabin is nice, loved that both rooms has spacious king beds. It’s a little outdated but that wasn’t very important to us in this setting. We did forget to lock the car and bears got inside the car! But they didn’t do any damage and we certainly didn’t forget again. The cabin felt clean, but there were a few areas (such as the fans) that were noticeably neglected. It wouldn’t have changed whether we stayed there though; 95% of the cabin was spotless. The game room was a very nice thing to have as well. Overall we were very happy and would recommend this cabin!
Fall Bike Trip
We decided at the last minute to do a long weekend bike trip. Chose this rental and was not disappointed. Perfect for what we needed.
million dollar view
property in great location with a great view of th e mountains and has all the extras to make the stay fantastic
Great Chalet get away
This place was just what my wife and I needed. The property was clean and quiet and only 10 minutes from Gatlinburg. We both enjoyed waking up and sitting on the porch to watch the sunrise over the Smokies. It was very homey feeling which you never really get at a hotel. The bed was soft and comfortable. It was a relief having a washer and dryer available and the game room. We enjoyed playing pool when we got back from walking through the town of Gatlinburg. Drive way is very steep and yes there are a lot of stairs but nothing that is too terrible. Only about 30 ( I actually used them in my morning workouts)
*** Take all the warning of bears. We did see a mom and 4 cubs rummaging through someone's car (she actually opened the door herself). Be forewarned and follow the warning and DO NOT leave any food in your car.
This is a marvelous place to stay. If you have problems with stairs don't go otherwise it was clean, quiet, And relaxing
1/2 mile to Ober Gatlinburg ski area, Gatlinburg (3.8 mi), and Pigeon Forge Tourist Attractions including Dollywood theme park (13 mi). Great views of the Smoky mountain's changing seasons, and short scenic drives to Clingman's Dome, Cades Cove, Pitman Center Arts and Craft community
