Our dream home is located on a hillside with much in the way of natural beauty. The Lake is a wonderful forested mountain backdrop with a view from the hillside second to none. We have installed windows troughout to open you to clean fresh air in season(of course ac when needed). Decks exist for outside dining and barbecue on gas grill. Lots of steps will get your exercise during the week. We are near parks and hiking trails. You can enjoy historic trips to Jonesborough,Abingdon,Greenville,Bristol active downtown and country Music heritage.
What makes this House unique
Pontoon rental available through 3rd person. Bring your own boat or jet ski to use our dock for some lake fun and swimming. There are plenty of places around you can rent boats . Enjoy a beautiful clean lake to swim and fish. We are located near a national forest and the Appalachian trail biking on the Va. Creeper trail between Abingdon and Damascus is wonderful. I hope the weather is pleasant, as it usually is, but if not you will have many other activites to enjoy.

WE have a house information and rule book guest need to follow. mainly involves ,fire hazard, smoking ,cleaning and pet maintenance. Over 6 adults 16 up we charge $65 /person for extra house usage. WE do not count children 16 and under.Clean up is $59 if you do not want to follow the clean up list which allows us to waive that fee. We especially need cleaning of grill and trash taken out at the laurel marina dumpster (in season). Take care gong down boat dock as steps are long and steep because of terrain, We require all dock users to wear vest when swimming as the lake is very deep. WE have never had an accident in 18 years of renting and we hope our guest stay safe on steps and around water.

Great stay at SOHO
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. Property owner was great to work with the house was well kept and clean. It was well worth it.
As soon as we drove onto the property, we knew the listing description was not accurate. The house is not on a lake. There is a road between the house and the dock, where cars are flying through back and forth to get in and out of the marina. Not safe.
There was a bad storm that swept in about an hour after our arrival, causing the power to go out and several leaks to pop up in the house. Our first experience was trying to find buckets to catch the water coming in. We ended up leaving to go find a place to eat because the house had no power and was leaking. The next morning, I woke up to find my car in the driveway had been hit and damaged by another vehicle overnight. Oh, and the wasps were everywhere! Had to have a can of wasp killer around at all times. Overall, not a pleasant stay and would not go back.
Just what we wanted
We had a lovely stay at this unique lake house. The owner was very responsive to all our questions. They are not kidding about the steps, so be ready! There was plenty of room for our family of four, the dog and grandparents. It is an older house but we didn’t have any issue, a few things needed repair but the owner was advised and it was not an issue. The location is great, we were a little worried about how close the house is to 421 and on the road to the biggest marina on the lake but it was not an issue at all. The marina staff are wonderful, the lake is beautiful and the house was just what we needed for our family vacation, would definitely recommend
THanks so much for the nice things you stated. We loved having you visit us. Bernard and Doris
Beware and Document.
Views and lake itself are amazing. Water is perfect and renting a boat was simple as the marina is a walk down the street.
However, the rental house itself has its share of issues. The walk to the dock and the dock itself are borderline unsafe, and are definitely not recommended for small children or elderly. Only real bathroom in the house doesn’t have a shower. The one bathroom downstairs has a small size corner shower and shares the space with a water heater, washer/dryer, and seems like an after thought. The other bathroom on the third floor doesn’t have real doors so anybody can see in it while it is in use.
Bedroom window leaked. The third floor real sized shower leaked down into the kitchen cabinets, which was a huge mess that had to be cleaned and also made that bathroom unusable for the last couple days of our stay.
The furniture in the house is uncomfortable. The couch in the sunroom was dry rotted from the sun-but that shouldn’t be an issue for any newcomers as we were forced to pay for a new one.
I recommend taking lots of pictures of the house before you get settled, as well as along the way if there are any issues like leaks or questionable issues. Documentation is key if you are concerned about your security deposit.
No doubt the owner will spin this to make us sound like complainers and mention our dogs as the issue. We would just like to warn that if you choose to go- beware and document.
All in all, a beautiful area. We would not stay in this house again, as there are probably better options for the money spent.
Yes this customer was unhappy because the dogs they brought tore up the micron leather on the back of the sectional couch . It was a $2000 sectional that was about 8 years old and it had some sun fading, but it was in good shape for guest. The dogs were allowed to jump on and put holes in the sofa back and scratched top edge off back edge. WE charged $300 out of $600 deposit and have just replaced the sectional with another second hand couch that cost us $300.00 and looks new. The leak was an issue we fixed after these people left but was never brought to our attention until they left. The leak in the window was very small and was just fixed and passed the t-storm test. We have had monsoon rain storms this year that tested the house. There are 3 showers,1 outside. 1 as described in a corner and a top floor bedroom with privacy around a corner from bedroom w salon doors. The master bath has a Jacuzzi ,no shower (water would be all over floor if added).
The steps to dock are regularly checked and repaired but are steep going down side of mountain and all need to hang onto rails when descending. WE warn people about steps to house. It sits on the side of mountain overlooking the lake, it has to fit the mountain and not the reverse.
WE expected a harsh review from the guest because of the dog damage charges. I would not want future quest to be using a torn up couch .I would not expect to take my dogs in a home and tear up furniture without replacing it.WE regularly refund guest their full deposit , but not this time. Please see other reviews.
Great location and view
Location is good, and there was plenty of room for our large party. Overall Our stay was pleasant, but property has an awkward layout, and it is a little tired. Kitchen is cramped and not very well appointed. Stairs to boat dock are a little dangerous.
