A Slice of history

  • 5 of 5

The mill is amazing. Full of french charm and layers of history. Loads of room, great facilities and beautiful grounds. A quiet and peaceful position in a charming village a short drive from Varzy and its shops. We especially enjoyed using the old bread oven to make the most delicious pizzas. Patricia could not have been more welcoming or helpful. We were sad to leave. Xx

The most amazing holiday let ever!!!

  • 5 of 5

We just finished a stay in the Moulin Chamont, and were so sad to leave!

It is an extraordinary place, and it felt totally like home!

I wish we could have stayed much much longer!

It is much more attractive than we could tell by the pics, the hosts were wonderful and so friendly, and we just had the best holiday there!

Infact, I am sitting in a holiday let in Austria, wishing we were back there instead!

Clamecy and Vezelay were very nice historical places to visit.

Watch out in Vezelay, as my husband did a wine tasting and then bought a bottle after trying from a shop in the main tourist street, but when he opened the bottle at home, he is sure it was not the same wine!

He paid 17 euro for it, and it was like a weak watery Italian wine and was tipped down the sink.

another shop sold us Dijon mustard at 6,50 euro a jar that we later saw in the supermarket for only 1,50 euro! :/ (same brand!)

If you are into wine tasting and want a great experience, go to Domaine Bersan , in Irancy!

There are two with the SAME name opposite each other!

The one we went to had a white manor house in a courtyard with an enormous Stone rock cellar system downstairs and was extraordinary, for both the wine and the cellar experience!

Auxerre was also lovely and had great shopping!

I would highly recommend staying in this Holiday let!

I think it is possibly our most favourite holiday let ever!

Thank you very much Patricia!

A magical place

  • 5 of 5

The moulin is a magical place in an incredible countryside. The building is beautiful and full of charm. Creaky, quirky and stuffed to the massive beams with character, you will rarely stay anyplace like it.

This is not a five-star hotel with gleaming, modern bathrooms, professional kitchen and maid service. Instead you get a wonderful experience of France Profound, with a marvelous host (who lives next door), a breath-takingly beautiful setting, serenity, charm, a kitchen garden just for the guests, an external wood-fired bread (or pizza) oven, a cozy living room overlooking with back yard with its beautiful roses and the mill wheel, close to so much and yet far away from stress, noise, crowds and worry.

Nearby Clamecy is charming and friendly. Amazing Vezelay is a very short drive, and the countryside if stuffed full of lovely villages, small towns and true French rural life.

The mill is quirky, with odd layouts, steep stairs to the top floor, and little level changes here and there, there's no mistaking that. But it is such a beautiful place, that my wife actually cried a bit when we left. Breakfast out on the table over-looking the mill pond, with the massive willow was a memory that will stay with us.

The surrounding countryside is just that, countryside. Cows, fields, farms, they're all there in great abundance. But that is part of the experience. And the food in the region, ... oh, la, la! (not even going to mention the wine). Clamecy is very close by with all kinds of shops, several good restaurants, and even a lovely church that hasn't been much restored.

Would we come back to the Moulin? In a heartbeat. We'd love to come with a larger group. We stayed in the main bedroom upstairs with the larger bed, and a smaller bed in the same area for our son. (really in a separate room but there are only beams and a couple of steps between the two room) There are two other rooms at that level with single beds, then another bedroom downstairs with its own bathroom.

This is a rural house, nestled into a very small village with not much there except houses and fields. But I can't think of a better home base for exploring the area by car or bike. We highly recommend the house, the host, the area and the experience.

  • 5 of 5
