Why Nick or Jo chose Labécède-Lauragais

We bought this property as it ticked all our 'boxes'. Set in beautiful countryside yet near to civilisation and interesting areas to discover. Easy access to both the Med coast and to the Pyrenees for skiing. Great seasonal weather. Less touristy and closer to 'traditional' France than some other more developed regions.

What makes this cottage unique

Plenty of space; large heated pool; children's play area; near to historical towns of Revel (furniture centre of France), Carcassonne and Toulouse.

A true (secret) jewel of a place

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at Les Armengauds Gite.  The actual gite is extremely comfortable with a very airy feel yet also can be cosy with the wood burning stove lit!  Everywhere was clean and tidy on arrival and Elizabeth (the property manager – who speaks English and is very attentive) was great at showing us around and going over the details of the property and site.

The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need – from complementary tea and coffee to dishwasher, washer and coffee maker.  (There is no dryer but not a problem for us during our stay.)

The lounge is very comfortable with two good-sized sofas, a TV (monitor), DVD player and a selection of DVDs.  The wood burning stove is amazing and a real plus to the property.  It heats the entire place after about an hour and although I imagine not needed in the summer (!), it was a real added bonus on the couple of chilly evenings we had in early May.

The main bedroom overlooks the back and is spacious enough for your stuff (hanging wardrobe with drawers).  The ensuite loo is a nice touch.

The family bathroom is lovely – and again, some complementary soap and shampoo a nice touch. (Especially if you’ve just arrived and missed those off your shopping list!)

Although we didn’t use it, the front bedroom has a lovely view of the front garden and play area.

Outside, there is more space than we knew what to do with!  The front of the property has the play area, a large lawn and a decking area with barbeque. There’s also a small lower lawn where kids can kick a football about.

At the back, there’s a raised eating area (with another BBQ) and also the pool – again, up some steps and well away from the property – which affords added privacy, if the farmhouse isn’t booked.  There is also a lovely orchard with cherry, apricot, apple, pear and walnut (I think!) trees.  The cherries were just coming in to fruit when we were there so yet another little (amazingly-tasty) treat!

We used Les Armengauds as our base to discover more of the region, which flanks Aude, Haute Garonne and (a little further afield) the ski slopes of Ariège.  So much to see and do in this wonderful region including Carcassonne Cité; the Pyrennes and a nip over to duty-free Andorra; Toulouse; and Narbonne (and the Med coast).  We even ventured a little way into Spain via the beautiful French town of Collioure.

Couldn’t recommend highly enough.  We’ll definitely be back.

Fabulous location, fabulous accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

Well appointed accommodation, fabulous location, set in scenic setting. Lovely large child friendly garden, fabulous pool, great size for a swim and family fun, soaking in the sun and relaxing. Property not far from historic towns and sandy beaches. Everything was exceptionally clean and well maintained. Detailed and useful information provided on places of local interest. Loved visiting the local market at Ravel, Carcassonne is incredible. Enjoyed visiting local beaches. Can fully recommend this property to all.

Wow! Just wow!

  • 5 of 5

This is one amazing place!

The gite is bright, comfortable, well-equipped, airy and spotlessly clean. (It’s bigger than the photos suggest.) A beautiful bottle of gorgeous local red and a fresh crusty baguette was also a lovely welcoming touch.

The pool is very large and amazingly warm. We’ve previously stayed at properties where the pool is heated using solar-heating, which barely gets the water temperature to tepid. This heated pool is the real-deal. Apparently, it has a proper heat-pump – what a difference! The children stayed in the water for hours!

A wonderful place to relax, swim, BBQ, and take in the beautiful views – and oh, that sunset over the hills! Breath-taking!

The property is an ideal location as it is peaceful, rural but just a few minutes’ drive from the centre of either Revel or Castelnaudary. With plenty of cafes, restaurants, boulangeries, choclatiers and bars to choose from. There’s also a small cinema in Revel – so if you fancy immersing yourself in the language, that’s a great option.

Eliza (the property manager) was marvellous - very meticulous and attentive. She showed us around and double-checked we were ok throughout our stay without being intrusive. She also made sure the pool was kept beautifully clean during our stay.

The location – although being rural gives easy access to nearby cities such as Carcassonne and Toulouse, as well as the Med coast and Pyrenees mountains. We also ventured across on a day trip to Andorra for a spot of REAL duty-free shopping, which was a fabulous added bonus. If you’re after a decent camera, watch or even just a case of something special – it’s definitely worth the effort.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are planning some short stays between now and next summer – with cheap flights to Carcassonne, who can blame us!

Couldn’t recommend enough.

Great place to relax, enjoy the fun for everybody

  • 5 of 5

This is really amazing place to stay. The lady manager is very friendly and professional and is making sure you have a good time of your holidays.

The south of France is beautiful and this area particularly – we say the “Tuscany of France”. Unspoiled, not too much tourists (but of course we are!), nice little restaurants and of course the city if you must go there.

For Les Armengaux, this place is truly spectaculare. Very much space with the fruit trees (beautiful cerise), the children area for play and the very large “bath” – the pool is very much warm!

We come in June and this is perfect time for to enjoy very tranquillity and good times.

We find the Gite very accommodating with well serviced kitchen and updated bathroom and salon – fantastic renovation! Very relax, clean and sweet.

Many place to see hear and much relaxing is possible. We may be back soon!

Best regards

Max et Famille

Amazing family holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at Les Armengauds. For the children, it has loads of land run around and burn off energy as well as the play area, trampoline and pool. For the adults – you are immersed in breathtaking French countryside with far-reaching views of the Aude valley, together with the peace and tranquility that this wonderful rural property gives you.

Did we mention the pool?! Other reviews seem to have – but it just can’t be over-stated. Wonderfully large and beautifully heated, our kids (and us) just couldn't get enough. We had to tear ourselves away from it to discover the rest of what was around us.

Before we mention the area, just a quick word on the property itself: it is beautifully decorated with ample space; lovely kitchen with everything you need and a wonderful lounge to relax in after a hard day in the pool / at the beach / etc.!

So what’s around? Well there’s Revel as the nearest town – giving you plenty of supermarchés, patisseries, choclateries, restaurants and the wonderful Saturday morning market...go early and soak up the atmosphere. Then there’s Carcassonne – and the wonderful cité (think Disney princess castle on steroids..!). For real shopping, you have Toulouse – lovely city with a Space Centre, Airbus (Concorde, A380), shops, cafés, restaurants, museums, galleries and big department stores. Also, you are on the border of one of the biggest wine areas in Europe – so plenty of vineyards to visit. Other things for the kids include a water-park, dry ski slope, water-skiing, the Med beaches, an African safari park, an Australian park (?!), amazing pre-historic caves, the Pyrenees mountains....(I could go on).

Anyway, enough rambling – suffice to say: this is one of our best holidays to date and - although we generally do different holidays each year – we are tempted to return to this wonderful place.

Highly recommended to all!

Les Armengauds gite.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great holiday here with our two grandchildren (aged 10 and 6) and would highly recommend this gite to others, especially families with kids who can already swim.

The accommodation is comfortable, our hosts were always helpful and friendly, and the garden Is just great for kids ( especially the trampoline and table-tennis table) and has a lovely outlook.

The heated pool is a real asset, and having had experiences with freezing 'solar heated' pools elsewhere in France we'd say that any family who want to enjoy regular/daily swimming as part of their holiday will love this place: the pool is big enough for a 'decent' swim and it really is warm!

In addition, and although the location itself is very quiet and peaceful, this gite is ideally placed (15 minutes or so from the motorway at Castelnaudary), if you want to get around this area of France, and there are plenty of options to choose from. We ended up going to the Med coast more often than we planned to (just over a hours drive away) and ended up doing only half of what we originally intended to - and at the end of a day out the kids headed straight for the pool.

We would go back in a flash, and hope to next year!
