Cozy room with a view
Clean room with comfy beds and close to transportation to everywhere in Paris, lots of places to eat and drink and the best was Mrs Dy always ready to help and give good advice. Paris is beautiful but beware of pickpockets in the train and tourist places.
Very Upsetting Experience
My husband & I booked this room for 3 days. I am pregnant & we are not partiers. We were fine that we would be sharing some space with Madame Dy. Our first day went great; we even bought MD flowers as a thanks for her hospitality.
Our second day started fine other than a couple racist comments over breakfast by MD. We hoped to do some laundry, as there was a washer/dryer in our private (not shared) bathroom space within our private room. I tried to get MD’s attention to ask about using it (granted, the listing didn’t offer washing, but it was sitting right there in our bathroom along with detergent), but she was on the phone in the other room & rather than interrupting her, we decided to go ahead & use it assuming it must be fair game.
Unfortunately, when we returned from our day, there was a half-page letter on the washer expressing her surprise and disappointment at our audacity in using this washer in our bathroom. We were mortified at having offended her so I immediately left the room to find her & apologize for the unintentional offense. We offered to pay her for detergent/water usage, not quite understanding her frustration, & she just indicated there was a laundry across the street & we should go use that to dry our clothes. She provided a plastic bag to transport the wet clothes.
We had dinner reservations, so we put the wet clothes in the bag & got ready for dinner. When we walked into the shared hallway to leave, she approached us & asked if we had gone to the laundry. When we said no, she angrily shoved herself past us into our room & started rifling through our things looking for the wet clothes. We showed them to her in the bag (we saw no harm in dealing with them after dinner) & she threw her arms in the air & stormed out of the room speaking French in a very unpleasant tone. Mortified again, I followed her into the hallway & politely asked, “ma’am?” so I could better understand the issue, & she huffed in my face, turned her back on me, spat, “I’m tired” over her shoulder & went into the kitchen where she started making unnecessary racket.
We felt extremely unwelcome & booked a hotel that night over dinner so we could leave immediately. After dinner we quietly packed, cleaned, left a courteous apology note by her door & left.
The next AM she sent a message apologizing for “possibly being a bit aggressive.” We paid for two places our last two nights, & it was better than staying with her for one more day.
Perfect Paris stay
We enjoyed our short stay here. It was located close to public transportation and the host was helpful with suggestions.
Paris Home Stay
Comfortable, spotless room with generous, warm hearted host. Like staying with your favorite Auntie. Situated overlooking a busy boulevard, the location is centrally located to Marais. Madeline is well informed and if doesn't have the answer will do the research and get you going in the right direction. Check out the amazing market which happens directly across the street twice a week. Excellent cafe / restaurants walking distance from front door. Recommend Chez Paul and Petit Marche. Building has an elevator which is a plus vs. hauling luggage up 5 floors. The neighborhood is a happening place so either join in the late night revelries or pack a good pair of earplugs if a light sleeper.
A delicious week with Mdm Dy
The room was great, breakfast wonderful and Mdm was very good company. We will come back to stay with her when we return to Paris. Best, mark and joan helbling.
Madame Dy's place is perfect!
