Our family of seven has been traveling all over Europe and this house is one of our favorites. The location in Toledo is amazing. It's a short walk from the Cathedral and Alcazar. There's a grocery store within walking distance. The river and nature walk are just a block or two away. The house is large and clean and in good repair. We loved the courtyard. There were some toys for our small children to play with. We had some minor, temporary issues with the WiFi, but it was otherwise reliable. If we visit Toledo again, we would love to stay here again.

Perfect Toledo Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this home. It was immaculately clean and very roomy. It comfortable fit our family of five with lots of room to spare. The courtyard balcony was a pleasant place to relax in the evening. It's perfectly located - adjacent to the river and about a 5 minute walk to the center of Toledo and the cathedral. If you have a car, the garage is a great bonus so you can park you car and forget about it. Toledo is a walking town, not a driving town. Finding this house for the first time can be a little tricky, so it's worth getting good instructions from the hosts. They are wonderful and happy to share local knowledge and offer great recommendations on Toledo, including where to eat. We would definitely stay here again.

Super house for families

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a week here and found the house was ideal for families. It was well equipped, clean and with flexible sleeping acomodation. The owners were polite and helpful, although we didn't need to contact them for anything during our stay as everything went smoothly.

We would definitely return to this house as it's a great base for exploring the area.

From the moment of contact with the owners everything was simple. We booked the house for 3 couples - my mum & dad, my sis & her husband and my husband and myself. We paid half the money up front and the rest on arrival.

When we arrived to the house in the stunning town of Toledo we were greeted by the beautiful owner Sagrario. She showed us around her wonderful house. As we arrived quite late we had no supplies so Sagrario drove two of us to the local supermarket to pick up some stuff. She also gave us a map of the town and a list of places to visit - restaurants/tapas bars etc.

The house has 3 private bedrooms but can sleep many more as there is a lot of living space with sofa beds/fold away beds. 2 of the bedrooms are ensuite. One is small with a toilet and shower and the other is large with double shower and double sink - this room also has a walk in wardrobe. There is also another bathroom in the house. A very big kitchen/dining area which was fully equipped with everything that we needed. Having my brother-in law (a chef) with us we made great use of the kitchen and all it's faciilities.

The living area is so relaxed and comfortable equipped with TV/DVD/stereo and books. There is also another dining area off the living room. The house has 2 lovely outside sun terraces. It's a wonderful size of a house and with six of us there for 4 days we never felt cramped - you can always find somewhere in the house to retreat to if you want a bit of time alone to read etc.

I would highly recommend this house for a family or group of friends. I would however point out that it's quite a steep climb to the main town - if you are relatively fit and healthy it will be no problem to you but if you are with someone older that wants to explore it might be to much of a climb.

A massive thank you to Sagrario for such a warm welcome and a fantastic stay. If we ever visit Toledo again Casa Andaque is the house for us!

"Casa Andaque is a beauti...

"Casa Andaque is a beautiful, recently renovated (2009) house at the southern edge of the city of Toledo, close to the River Tagus (Tajo). My family of four (two adults, children 14 and 8) visited for six days in July 2010. The house was very comfortable with the living accommodation upstairs and the bedrooms and bathrooms below. There is also an enclosed courtyard and balcony. It is furnished in a modern IKEA-esque style and has a very spacious kitchen, which is great, since there is a wide selection of high produce available at the market. The house is situated in a quiet area with very little traffic, so no worries about the kids.

Being July, it was particularly hot, with temperatures reaching well over 40 °C on some days. Whilst we’re all quite happy with the heat, those less so would be advised to avoid the summer months, or to stick to the coasts and/or places with swimming pools. Spring and autumn would be great times to visit for those who don’t like it too hot.

The house currently lacks WiFi or other internet connectivity. On this particular occasion, this didn’t worry us, as we were quite happy to be ‘offline from the world’ for a few days, but if you’re someone who needs to be online 24/7, then you need to bear this in mind.

Our only other recommendation would be to consider a slightly larger, more solid bed in the main bedroom, since at 6’2” (188 cm) tall, my feet were overhanging by quite a margin.

Other than these relatively minor considerations, we had a superb time. Toledo is easy to get to on the Avant train from Madrid’s Atocha station, and the town itself is very picturesque, perched on its hill surrounded by ancient wall and river. The narrow streets and tall buildings mean that there is usually plenty of shade from the sun, though we strongly recommend going local and having a siesta during the hot afternoon hours.

• Bring reading materials, music and DVDs with you if required. If you want to connect your iPod or MP3 player to the stereo, bring a stereo 3,5mm to twin phono (red and white) cable with you.

• There are a few basic ingredients in the kitchen, but you may want to bring some others, such as coffee, tea, sugar, flour, spices, etc. to save having to buy them locally.

• Locate and use the electric fan early on. We didn’t find it until halfway through our stay, so were a bit hot at night before then.

• For those without a car, the number 12 bus stops very close by and takes you up the hill to Zocodover, the main square (actually triangle) near the Alcazar. Pay the driver (about 1 Euro) on the bus.

• The Panorama bus that goes around the city provides stunning views of Toledo from across the river.

• Enjoy the riverside walks (senda ecólogica) that lead from near the house.

• Toledo has a lot of steep cobbled streets, so those with young children in pushchairs, or those with reduced mobility should bear this in mind.

• Since we enjoy cooking and there is a well stocked market near the cathedral, we didn’t eat out very often. Most of the places we did go were generally so-so, with unexceptional food and indifferent service. The one exception was the lovely little restaurant on the other side of Puente de San Martin (yellow arched sign). Very friendly owner, delicious beef stewed (for days it would seem) in wine, and quail cooked/marinated in vinegar, all for about 10 Euro a head."
