Overview

About the property

The holiday-house Monteriggioni Castello is considered to be a suite for all the elegance and comfort it offers. It is within the walls of Monteriggioni in one of the castle’s picturesque, medieval streets. Monteriggioni Castello has the typology of a Tuscan hut, separated from the other houses and with its own independent entrance. It has one floor and is 68m² wide with 2 bedrooms – one having a double-bed and one having 2 separate beds – a kitchen, a dining-room, a bathroom with a shower and a hair-dryer, a laundry room, a private courtyard and a private parking-space with an automatic gate. It can house 5 people ( 4 + 1 ). Entrance to the house is through a private entry: once the gate is opened you walk into a private courtyard for the exclusive use of our guests. From the courtyard one goes to the warm and welcoming dining-room. The hall has wooden beams, walls of stone and a traditional floor in paved “cotto fiorentino” which have all been restored to their original splendor. These, together with the antique furniture, create a delicate atmosphere. Despite its antique style, the hall has modern comforts such as a satellite tv, internet, a video-recorder, a dvd and cd-player and a safe. The kitchen is the traditional Tuscan style with hot and cold water-taps, a cooker, an oven and a fridge. It also has spare crockery for your own guests. The bed-rooms have been white-washed in warm colors, with bedspreads to match, studied to strike and steal our visitors’ emotions. In the 2-bed bedroom, the colors of the walls are subtle with scenes of Tuscan countryside. From the window one can see the gardens, the village’s walls and the medieval towers. The other bedroom is very big with carpets and a romantic atmosphere. Our guests will therefore find themselves in an unusual, luxurious and exclusive place with an atmosphere that blends spiritual well-being with physical and mental relaxation.

As advertised. Elisabetta and Mateo are extremely nice and helpful. We had planned an excursion every day and Monterigioni was a stones throw to all of them. As parking can be a hassle, we were allowed to park in host's garden area.

Kitchen had everything we needed. Beds nice and comfortable. Plenty of hot water from on demand heater ( exactly what we have in the states ).

We are a family of four and would highly recommend.

Perfect place

  • 5 of 5

This charming holiday home was the perfect place to stay. It's cosy, comfortable and feels like home from home. Elisabetta and her family were so welcoming and helpful.

You soon feel like a local in this small village, and it's such a special place.

Take the free bus tour on a Saturday mornings to have a guided tour of local abbeys and churchs. You get to see places you'd never find on your own.

Perfect place for a relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

I spent a week at Monteriggioni Castello in May this year, with my sister and our mother. We had been looking for a very special place, as the whole trip was to be our mother’s birthday gift (she is 70). It turned out everything we wished for. An authentic, old little house that had been thoughtfully and stylishly renovated, retaining the charm of age but providing every comfort.

The apartment is airy and spacious. The kitchen is small but two to three persons can still comfortably prepare a meal together -- largely thanks to the fact that there is not one but two entrances between the kitchen and the large living room with the dining table. All the basic kitchen equipment is there. If anything, we missed paper towels and plastic garbage bags after a few days of stay.

The bathroom is just as clean and comfortable as everything else.

One of the bedrooms has a door leading to a tiny patio where one can sit and sip coffee. Our mother, who smokes, appreciated this easy access to a private, cosy outdoor space. Mornings and evenings we sat there listening to the doves, to the church bells ringing hours, and watching the tiny town wake up and go to sleep. The Castello gives you that smug feeling that you *live* at Monteriggioni, as opposed to all the other tourists :-)

One has access to the owners’ quiet garden/orchard adjacent to the medieval wall. There one can also park one’s car.

The owner family are every bit as hospitable, accomodating, charming and helpful as other reviewers have said. They are always available, yet making one feel left in peace. Their gestures of genuine, personal hospitality added an extra nice touch.

Final tip: if you travel in a rented car, make sure not to choose the biggest broadest one – this saves you the struggle while driving in to town through the narrow medieval gate.

We loved this

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here and would have liked to be here longer. We were warmly welcomed and given lots of helpful information. The apartment was very comfortable and it was so nice to wander around the castello in the evening. It is a great location to explore the region. I'd love to return.

We are a family of 4, boy...

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4, boy of 11 and girl 14 from Bristol, England, we travelled by car spending a week in Switzerland and a week in Monteriggioni, Italy (we loved Switzerland but thought Monteriggioni was the best). In fact we all agreed this was the best holiday we have ever had.

The owners are some of the nicest people we have ever met, they provided invaluable local knowledge, suggesting day trips, places to eat (and the best deals) always helpful and welcomed you as though we were old friends. Several times we had treats during our stay (at no cost) like home made croissants for breakfast and tomato salad (lovely).

Monteriggioni Castello is a charming holiday apartment/bungalow set within the walls of the fortified medieval town built between 1213 and 1219. History is everywhere you look, around each and every corner, the apartment blends into this environment seamlessly. The unique experience of staying within the castle walls is unforgettable, in addition you can join the guided tour of the castle, walls and museum for free (normally 8 euros) if staying in the castle (in English, German and Italian).

The area is a great destination for a holiday and the town a great place to visit, but to actually live here (if only for a short time) is a real privilege, something I know my family will never forget.

The apartment is very comprehensively equipped through out, with everything we needed during our stay, and no compromise on quality, in fact I would dearly love some of the antique furniture which adorns the home in my house. The owner’s attention to detail is obvious from the moment you step inside, a lot of work has been done to make it special.

Although a small town I never tired of walking the streets at the start and end of the day. The town has many gift shops, a tobacconist (meat, cheese, bread) 4 restaurants and a 4 star hotel (£180 per night according to their web site, but I know where I would rather stay).

The location of Monteriggioni is ideal for touring Tuscany (you do need a car) only a few kilometres from Siena, San Gimignano, Colle Val d Elsa and Castellina in Chianti. Within easy reach of Florence (but suggest taking the bus or train because of parking), a little further a field are Pisa, Lucca and many beaches about 1 hour 30 minutes scenic drive.

The area is also ideal for walking, mountain and road biking, however a word of warning Italian maps leave a lot to the imagination and it is easy to get lost.
