Guests may relax all day in the cozy home or walk mere steps to the amazing waters of the Pacific. Dolphins and Sea Turtles are nearly a daily sighting with humpback whales frequenting the waters from January through April. The home is located in a quiet, gated neighborhood along the scenic Hamakua Coast where the homes are spread over 5, 10 and 20 acre parcels.
Need a slightly larger home for your family? We also own The Cottage at Maluhia Kai Ranch. It is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home that can be seen at www. vrbo.com/845012.
While we live in the adjacent main house, we also understand and respect the privacy of our guests. We love to personally greet each guests, provide a very brief tour and then allow you to relax and enjoy. We have no children but do have two, friendly and loving labs. They basically lay all day on our lanai but occasionally have the need to be petted or have a ball thrown :) We have a few sheep in two separate paddocks that appear to enjoy their oceanfront accommodations.
The quaint town of Pepeekeo Point is ideally located only 11 miles from Hilo Town. It is close enough to go for dining or trips to the famous Hilo Farmer's Market but also far enough away to be tranquil and serene. The town of Hilo also offers modern shopping conveniences of stores such as Target, Walmart and a new, large Safeway.
We are located in an extremely nice, gated area where everyone knows your name and loves to stop and 'talk story.'
Need something larger than a 1 bedroom? Check out our newest home that is now available for rent on VRBO. It is listing #845012 and can sleep up to five.
REGARDING CHILDREN, DUE TO FACT THAT WE ARE A WORKING FARM AND ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE OCEAN PALI (CLIFF) WE DO NOT FEEL AS THOUGH THE HOME IS SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 14.
Happy to live in Hawaii and can't wait to share this little piece of paradise with you.
Steve Cox purchased this house in 2012
The Pepeekeo Point area of the Hamakua Coasts offered incredible views, is close to everything and brings back fond, childhood memories on our grandparents' farms.
From our Guestbook:
We had the privilege of being the first guest in this amazing cottage. From the peaceful morning sunrises, amazing views and perfect central location we could not have asked for more. We so enjoyed our morning coffee on the lanai almost as much as we did our evening glass of wine while sitting on the edge of the ocean. At least 50 spinner dolphins swam by on our first night!
Mahalo to Julie and Steve for providing us with such a memorable getaway. We will surely be back soon!

Stayed here to be close to Hilo and surrounding area, especially Volcanoes National Park. The home is in a wonderful, bucolic setting away from any congestion. The unit itself is recent construction, very neat and clean, well equipped, and well maintained. The ocean view from the front lanai is terrific, as is the ocean breeze through the front windows. The owners are gracious and very helpful. The villa is well situated for exploring that part of the Big Island. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
We had such a pleasurable time staying at the Carriage House. On arrival we were greeted by Steve and their two dogs, which we loved. The setting is so tranquil and relaxing, with the sound of waves, cows mooing, dogs playing, and goats frolicking. We found ourselves waking up to watch the sunrise each morning from the Lanai where the sunrise was perfectly framed by the opening in the trees. Each night we would fall asleep the the sound of the waves and the fabulous rain storms that would pass through! During our stay owners were around and we felt like if we needed them for anything it would have been easy to find them, but they left us alone to enjoy our stay without interruption.
The location is ideal for those who want to explore during the day and have a clean, quiet place to relax at night and re-energize for the upcoming day adventures. We found the location to be perfect for what we wanted to do on the Island, the Volcano National Park is a short drive and getting to the beaches on the Eastside was a fun, scenic drive.
The Carriage house itself was clean and well appointed. The washer a dryer came in particularly handy and the water pressure in the shower was a thumbs up for sure! The bed was comfortable and we discovered extra pillows in the bedroom closet that made our heads extra happy. As recommend by Steve in his awesome instructions (be sure to print them out and bring with you, we referenced them several times), definitely get to the house for the first time before dark, co-piloting skills are needed to find the house numbers on the fence and read the street signs. After you find your way the first time, it's really easy to find your way back, but the first time can be tricky if you are navigating in the dark or driving solo. We found the kitchen well stocked with pots, pans and all the needed utensils (remember there is no oven, but a really good hot plate, toaster oven and microwave, as well as an outdoor grill.) We recommend getting there, taking inventory and them going to the store. We found that just the small things like coffee, pepper, sugar, spices and laundry detergent needed to be purchased in addition to the food for our meals. Be sure to stock up in Hilo for food and sundries.
We would recommend this location to our friends and family and have already had inquiries about where we stayed based on photos we shared.
Two thumbs up from us.
My husband and I stayed at this carriage house on Pepeekeo Point for 5 nights from Feb.6 to Feb.11, 2016. How could anyone not love staying here with a private path leading down to the most amazing ocean views. This property is situated in a quiet, gated community about 11 miles north of Hilo town. Great location for exploring the beautiful and lush east end of the Big Island and just under an hours drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It was so nice to have our own washer & dryer to use and the rental itself is clean, spacious and fully equipped for preparing your own meals. Not really the place to be if you're looking for an active nightlife, but the perfect place for a peaceful & relaxing stay in your very own ocean side paradise.
Everything was great and exactly as described. Accommodations and surroundings were delightful. Wanted to stay a lot longer... Thanks Steve and Julie!
Had a great visit. Woke up to sunsets each morning from the lanai. Just missed the whale season, but walking down to the cliffs and watching the waves crashed almost made up for it. Loved seeing the newborn goats, and feeding the adults bananas!
Perfect location for the Hilo side of the island. Not too far from Hilo for restaurants and stores. Drove up the coast for waterfalls, botanical gardens. Up the Saddle Road for stargazing on Mauna Kea. Down south for Volcanoes National Park.
Agree with all the other reviewers on accommodations (clean and spacious). Kitchen had everything we needed (appliance/dish-wise) for cooking breakfasts and dinners.
Mahalo Steve and Julie!
This is a beautiful little place with an awesome view, nice and quiet such a peaceful relaxing place to stay. No Coqui frogs singing to keep you up at night either which is very good! The owners are such nice people so friendly and accommodating.
While located on an island, the things to do on Hawaii Island are endless. Where else can one experience snow at 13,000 feet and then make the short drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Whether your idea of a vacation is relaxing on the beach, touring a botanical garden hiking to a 400 foot waterfall, there is surely a daily event to entertain you while in Hawaii.

Due to the fact that the home is located very near the ocean pali (cliff) and is located on the 2nd story, we do not feel as though the Carriage House is suitable for children under the age of 14.
