The best view I have ever seen!!!

Last summer in Villefranche I was lucky to find this place through your website. The quick access to the beach, the location and the VIEW!!! were breath taking. The appartement had a little patio on which my wife and i had a nightly cheese and wine ritual wich was witnessed by the incredible landscape of mountains, ocean and millionaire houses, became part of our life style "a la francaise". We were lucky at that time to have a perfect weather, that allowed us to travel on the bycicles that the owner kindly provided us. In short, 5 stars vacations at a resonable price, i recommend this to anyone reading this review.

holiday in Cote d Azur paradise

I love this charming appartment well situated near the beach and the village.the view is amazing and the terrace is beautiful.

the appartment is stylish ,the owner is lovely and very helpfull even taking care of us on this particular 14th July.

We look forward to comingback from North Carolina

A well-appointed... musty basement with an obstructed view, far from town

With all of its good reviews, my family of four was very excited for our 4-night stay in this property, but for us the experience was a real let-down. I'm afraid I cannot reccomend this property, for the following reasons:

1) The view is NOT "180 degree" as listed -- if you walk to the very front of the terrace, you get perhps 90 degrees, but then you are looking down on the neighbor's large terrace which is only one meter away and one meter down. There are lots of plants to provide privacy from this neighbor -- which means that when you sit in any of the chairs on the terrace, you see plants, and not much sea at all.

2) The apartment is in the walk-out basement level of the building, so it is very musty and damp. Also, for security, the host advised locking all windows when leaving and at night -- since we went out during the day time, we could basically never open the windows, so the apartment never got any fresh air. The result is that we slept in the thick, musty stench -- we couldn't wait to leave each morning, and we dreaded returning at night.

3) Contrary to the listing, everything is NOT close on foot. The old town (the region of primary interest to a tourist in Villefranche) is 1.5km (1 mile) away. The walk back is up a big hill. The apartment may be only 500m from the small beach to the west of town, but it is a VERY steep hill (think staircase) -- this was too much for my 3 year old to walk, and it was very tiring to carry her the whole way.

4) The listing says "we provide bikes" which I suppose is technically true, but they are most certainly not usable. All the tires were flat, brakes rubbing, major shifting problems. The handle bars of one bike could barely be turned. We were unable to use the bikes.

I highly reccomend finding a different property for your Riviera vacation.

Owner's Response: Dear Benjamin I am sorry of your bitter review witch has nothing to compare from our regular host we are definitely not above a Florida beach with acces from large road on the sand and never pretend tobe But we are situated in a famous , lovely mediterranean one Maybe you should check better and using google map when deciding on hollydays retreat Villefranche is historicaly and world wide known to be a fortified citadel of mediterranea ,that is why people love it !of course as most citadels town, it has up and downs and the civilisation of everything by car came later . maybe you should investigate more geographyvcally before deciding on a spot to visit First of all you never complain with me and expressely said that you had great Hollydays ,???????! except that the baby seat of the bike 'that I am lending for FREE as the bikes)was not fiting, for this SMALL inconvenience I kindly reward you 100€!!!how stupid am I As american citizen your are may be not use to walk a little, but indeed if you look at Villefranche Map you will see and I do confirm as any other guest who did great reviews, our villa is VERY NEAR and easy walking distance to Villefranche center , beaches ,plus bus 80 leading directly!!! Look at the hills surouding you on the Moyenne and Haute Corniche and those are also Villefranche town,and you were located UNDER the Basse Corniche just above Port de la Darse???!!!meaning very near We do walk to beach shop the movies theater etc.and we did it with our children beeing todlers! It is not my fault if you never open the windows and of course we are soooo close from the sea that there is a marin air that you can feel ,usualy appreciate I personaly never told you to keep windows closed maybe the shutter for reason of heat as it is a tradition all around mediterranea when you leave to find back a cosy atmospher and to be planet concern by not keeping high volume of AC in your abscence? In the south of France we are used in terms of climat to leave shutter closed and windows open when going out and to put airconditioning ( regarding the meter of the electricity you did use) only when home The characteristic of this Belle Epoque house are its charming plus (not realy existing in US) This is usualy what is attracting our guest and make them so happy Sory that ist is not corresponding to your test,and life standards maybe more as standard hotel residence Up to today the huge size and views of the terrasse are usualy our plus Regards

We have just returned from a fab long weekend in this property. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. It is very well appointed for a holiday let, everything you need is in the apartment. Comfortable, spacious and homely. We will definitely return.

Authentic Riviera Retreat

When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and were given lots of helpful information about the apartment and Villefranche by the owner. This is a very authentic Riviera apartment in a wonderful setting, with great facilities and a tasteful decor. It has easy access to the beach, the town and is well placed for the excellent bus service to Nice and Monaco. The property is well maintained and the owner was very helpful and available. We had a wonderful time and would recommend this to those wanting to experience the great views and have easy access to local restaurants, bars and the wider Riviera.

Too many broken items, unsafe environment, obstructed view, owner is nonresponsive, DON'T STAY HERE

We stayed for a week at Les Lucioles in April 2013 and cannot recommend that anyone else stay there. Many of the furnishings and electronic fixtures didn’t work, including the phone, 2 TV’s, DVD player, CD player, electric beds, WIFI, etc. There was no coffee maker; my wife had to make coffee in a funnel, holding the tool in each cup—very tiresome and inadequate—not up to the standards advertised.

The unit is on a very busy road, with truck and bus noise quite loud on the terrace, and in the kitchen and master bedroom. There is a very curious root cellar or earthen vault on the road side of the house. This allows noise from the road to infiltrate into the house, as there is no proper window separating the kitchen from this dirt area and the road. This space also permits odor, mold and mildew to infiltrate the entire unit. The master bedroom has no proper window to the outside; and no fresh air ventilation. Consequently, the closets and drawers were all quite smelly and could not be used. The toilet rooms had no source of fresh air ventilation—one tiny window could not be opened. We believe the mold, mildew and odors contributed to breathing difficulties we developed, and our clothes and suitcases smelled terrible more than a week later. This was a very unhealthy situation.

The unit is unsafe in that there is no lighting on the road side of the house, the steps and walkways are very uneven, and it is most difficult to use the entry keys in the dark. It was unsafe to try to find our way in the dark, and no flashlights were provided. We lost power one evening, and could not even call for help, as the phone didn’t work. We still have nightmares over what might have happened if we there had been a fire or medical emergency.

The root cellar/vault has an outside entry that was not locked, thus the entire unit could have been entered from these earthen areas—we were terrified the whole time, as no else lived in the building. Parking is limited, and the only suitable public lot is almost a quarter mile away.

The sea view is compromised by the neighboring terrace, which has fencing and plantings that obscure part of the sea view. These obstructions are not obvious from the photo’s, and will be worse during the summer. The unit is one mile from the village shops, uphill to return with your groceries!

Owner's Response: Sir HOW could you pretend both that the internet trough the WI FI is not working and at the same time telling that I do not answer your email? i can understand that you feel frustrated because you did not remmeber what I show you during the one hour and half spend with you at check in time( including Canal plus Tv channels in many languages electrical memory form beds,AC,a Nespresso machine(maybe to technic for you two etc... I can understand that you are not from an high teck generation but please do not blame me or the appliances!!! Tenants before And after had no trouble at all with the existing coffee machine Nespresso! the internet the lightings; both on the terrace and the acces of what you call an earth tunnel witch is indeed a charming brick and wood passage from the past century automaticaly unlighted when you arrive! The house is old ? certaineley !!we are proud to have a piece of property (witch is constantely remodeled and maintain in good shape)may be you are not use to this (but that is the reason generaly american tourist do love Villefranche sur Mer, the french Riviera and our home)to experience a life in an historical fortified town I can prove because I kept all emails that I did send yu pictures of every angle of the house the electrical bed are less han 2 years old ad work perfectly etc... I amnot even if I amyounger the you of the technological generation but I do not systematicaly blame applainces and people when it is not working How would you then explain all ourhappy tenants??? I amsorry for your bitter tone but I tried to help you even if I do leave h30mn formNice I was thet to welcome you as well as to help your departure did help to arry suit case and never heard your complain on day of your departure How come did it took you soo long to complain then??? Both bedrooms have television, DVD player, satellite, home cinema in the living room, air conditioning, gorgeous terrace and private garden with a unique view over the roadstead of Villefranche and Cap Ferrat. We kindly leave you: 2 bikes for adults one of which with a child seat, the other with a shopping basket, 1 children's bike, board games, a vast library with books in French and in English, an organ, a baby cot, a high chair, all the beach material such as towels, sunshade, sun loungers, fins and diving mask, fishing equipment... If we have forgetten something which we can fix, feel free to contact us. Last year, we bought a child seat for a bike to satisfy one of our guests.
