Private, serene home on large acerage, so close yet so far away
About brent homan
I have spent many years living and vacationing in the mid Columbia Gorge, enjoying hiking, biking, Carson Hot Mineral Baths, sight seeing and the many gorge events. I love the spectacular scenery and wildlife!
brent homan purchased this House in 1891
Why brent homan chose Cook
The house has wonderful views of the Little White Salmon River. Beautiful setting of 100 year old cedar and fir trees surround home. Next to an old growth stand of timber. Good area to ride bikes (12 mile round trip from house to Oklahoma Park), hike, Big Cedars Campground is 500 feet from my road entrance.
What makes this House unique
If you want to get away from it all in a serene, private setting and yet close enough to the Hood River area. Hood River Bridge is 20 minutes away.

Beautiful secluded home
We met our adult daughter for a three night stay at this wonderful home. Property itself is beautiful and the house is clean and comfortable. It contained everything we needed and more. The night temps were cool and great for sleeping. The beds comfortable the kitchen well appointed. Brent, the owner, was very responsive to inquiries.
Quiet, comfortable nature retreat
We stayed for 3 nights with our two teenagers and enjoyed the beautiful, secluded surroundings. It met my goal: being surrounded by nature as if we were camping, but with all the amenities of home! We only wished we had booked another night or two for our last week of summer vacation.
Quiet and clean
Easy to locate, quiet and clean- Not too many nick-backs for kids to get into. Close to a creek and plenty of space for the kids to get in touch with nature and out of the city. It was perfect for a girls weekend with all our littles. Thank you!
Quiet getaway with space for friends
What a lovely home! It's too spacious and well-appointed to be called "quaint" but it feels so nicely cozy that you almost could. Close enough to town for some great meals and access to good groceries, far enough away that one could enjoy a lot of quiet and privacy.
Owner was in contact from the outset with an offer of early check in and even a heads up on a meteor shower! The sauna was an extra treat!
The house was perfect for my purposes and would be excellent for a family or group that wants to gets away from civilization while remaining comfortable. Neither the house exterior nor interior are luxurious, but the house is comfortable & functional and fits in with its secluded setting better than opulence would. There’s a great creek for kids to play in and I found a trail on the other side that leads to a nice camp ground. Acres of wood to explore. The house is about a 15-20 minute beautiful drive from supermarkets and restaurants in Hood River, OR. There are two nice campgrounds walking distance from the house. I’d like to return and spend several days camping and then a few with a warm shower at this house.
So beautiful and relaxing
It really was so beautiful and relaxing, stars were amazing, and the river was so nice. Was there only for a couple days and really wish we had stayed longer. Only a couple things i would change is the front of the house might need some paint or something since when we first pulled up to the house we were a little unsure of the place but once we entered and took it all in, we were able to really enjoy it. Second is the path to the river is a little rough, water was absolutely freezing so again no big deal since we wouldn't have gone more than the first time anyways. I recommend stopping at a grocery store before heading to the house since the nearest grocery store (although still 30mins away) is a bit expensive.
Willard is 7 miles up into the mountains from Hwy 14 and 20 minutes drive via Cook's hill to the Hood River Bridge or 20 minutes drive via the incredible scenic Underwood hill drive to Hood River.
