About Monique Weening

We are a Dutch family of 5 (me, my husband and our 3 sons), who have lived in many countries, Italy being one of them. We have lived for 5 years in Rome and decided to buy our family holiday home in Umbria. After two years of extensive restoration works, we can finally call it our dream house and we take much pleasure in sharing its joy with others.

Monique Weening purchased this villa in 2002

Why Monique Weening chose Piegaro

This place has unforgettable views and sunsets and the valley breathes an incredible peace and tranquility. You have full privacy as there are no neighbours, yet you are centrally located and close to all necessary amenities and some great restaurants. This place is simply bliss!

What makes this villa unique

We've travelled a lot ourselves and found that many holiday properties in Italy and other countries are often dark and poorly furnished, have cheap fixtures and fittings and showers with little water pressure etc.

We wanted to create a light interior with new and high quality furniture and fittings. A place where you will feel at home and where care is taken of every aspect of your holiday.

Enjoyable stay in the Umbria Country side

  • 5 of 5

We were very satisfied with the stay at Casale Sento. We enjoyed the country side and the view, the swimming pool was very popular. In the house the kitchen was well equipped and the facilities and the bedrooms were excellent. In the shops in Tavernelle we found good food.

We did visit lake Trasimeno, the city of Peruiga, and the outlet mall in Valdichiana. We also did run and walk along the roads in the mountains around the Villa. We also lay in the sun and enjoyed the heat. We got good information from the owners side.

The villa had everything one can ask for a holiday. Kitchen had all the necessary equipment to make delicious food, not to mention the pizza oven. Interior decoration was classy. The swimming pool, the garden and the spactacular view! Enjoyable! The children had so much fun too!

Pictures can't do it justice!

  • 5 of 5

Could not have enjoyed it more. Visited from May 13-27, 2017. Time of year was great for visiting Umbria (before tourist crowds) and the spring foliage around the house and gardens was beautiful. What a setting...........the views from the house were spectacular, and the privacy was great.

Location was perfect for visiting Umbrian, and Tuscan, cities and points of interest. We loved some of the more off the map locations, and found some incredible places to dine - from the file at the house and some on our own. Almost any where you'd like to visit in Umbria is just a beautiful drive away.

House was wonderful. Had all the necessities, including fast internet for our younger family members! Plenty of room, and privacy for 3-4 couples. Sitting on the outdoor patio, watching the sun set, with wine/bread/cheese was spectacular. Lots of great outdoor spaces, with the patio, the pizza oven patio, and the pool area, too! Johanne, the local caretaker, was extremely helpful. She was available by phone or text to answer any questions we had, or set us off to a great restaurant (Bruno's in Citta del Pieve!).

Can't wait to go back! One thing that was very reassuring was the timeliness and quality of communication from the owner and caretaker. Spending money thousands of miles away, sight unseen, was made much less stressful by all the quick responses to all my questions from Monique and Johanne .

Owner's Response: Thank youJay, you have been wonderful guests. We love to give people an unforgettable holiday, so it is so good to hear you guys had a fabulous time! Bruno's in City della Pieve is indeed another great restaurant, so we'll add it to the file at the house. If you ever plan on returning, we are here and you can also have a look at our other house: villa Colle Lupo in Panicale. All the best, Monique and Roland

Stunning, elegant & peaceful!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casale Sento the last week of Sept 2016 and had a wonderful time! The house is absolutely beautiful and very tastefully decorated. The views were amazing! We were able to relax all week and forget what day it was; which to me is a sign of a great vacation. The pizza oven was alot of fun to use and we were able to make some delicious meals. We took some days trips to Perugia, Assisi, Panicale and Lake Trasimeno. We also went to Country House Montali (about a 20 min drive) for the best vegetarian meal any of our group has ever had! It's highly rated and deservedly so. Each day we went for long hikes along the road & countryside and the views were out of this world! I would highly recommend staying at Casale Sento and look forward to our next visit!

This was a dream come true holiday.

  • 5 of 5

We were 7 people , 3 generation of a family and everybody had a great time . The house is beautiful, well maintained and has everything you need. The pool is great , and the scenery is so relaxing . We saw some outstanding sunsets.

We had a lovely dinner at home with chef Mattia and Nonie and went to some very good restaurants at Citta della Pieve.

We made day trips to Orvieto , Lago Trasimeno and Assisi.

We loved every minute and would be happy to come back....

Perfect place to rest on a European adventure

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful! We spent 10 days at Sento, and it was fantastic. The home is spacious and well appointed. Plenty of room for our large family of 9. The room that overlooks the valley is especially neat. It was a perfect place to retreat and relax during our two month European travels. The Wheelings were very pleasant to work with, even mailing our watch which we had left behind. Johanne was very accommodating, as we were late arriving to the house upon check in. The kitchen is well stocked and all the comforts of modern convenience is found at the house. We enjoyed the Italian countryside, especially the nearby hilltop town of Panicale. So much to visit within an hour's drive, even more if you are willing to drive two hours. Great customer service, highly recommend---would stay again. Thank you so much!

Umbria is also known as the ‘green heart’ of Italy. The beautiful landscape is a mixture of gently sloping hills, forests, rivers and lakes. The region has all the charm of Tuscany, but is less crowded with tourists. Umbria is famous for its truffles, cheeses and wines. The Lake Trasimeno area is characterized by the ancient, picturesque towns around the shores of the popular lake, as well as by the attractive hill-top villages in its vicinity. Casale Sento is situated near one of these villages (5km) and can be reached by a good road of which the last 500m is gravel. Right outside the house you can make great walks, or take one of the mountain bikes and enjoy the stunning scenery. Alternatively, visit nearby wine estates or antique markets, wander through magnificent Assisi, or Perugia. Discover the hill towns around Lake Trasimeno, or go swimming in the lake. If you are adventurous, you can go rafting on the river Nera, or you can play golf at the Perugia Golf club.
