We came to Montignac with our 2 children on a family holiday in 2001. The kids loved the area-there was so much to see and do and always there was something new to experience and discover. We did this for 7 years , then we found Le Four a Sel fell in love with it and decided to make it our home
We love the peaceful rural setting, the wonderful sense of freedom this large expanse of space our property gives us and being beside the river is just so relaxing . And we are still in awe of the stunning scenery of this part of the Dordogne. We still get pleasantly surprised when we drive around and stumble upon a quaint village , a hidden castle.
**Excellent Location- peaceful and secluded but not isolated, walking distance to a bakery /bar/restaurant . Charming Montignac is close enough for one to walk in across the fields or along the back roads, with its cafes& restaurants, Wednesday and saturday market where you can buy local produce. And we are just 30 minutes away from many attractions, you won't need to drive too far to get back to your house. There is so much to see & do, 2 weeks won't be enough
**Lots of Space! You will never feel cramped here.15 acres of land for the children to run around in & expel all their excess energy. And still so much left for anyone to find their own private corner and get away from it all .
**The riverside setting is simply stunning, and oh sooo peaceful! Set beside the river Vezere, the riverbank is lined with poplar trees a 100 feet high .Watch the trees swaying gracefully in the wind ,listen to the nightingale break into song, or catch a glimpse of a kingfisher .
**Fabulous views . Wake up in the morning to views of lush cornfields from your bedroom window, or watch the early morning mist rise above the Vezere river at 7am
Though we are by the river, both the swimming pool and the river are protected by a fence and gate to keep children safe.

We stayed in the Villa Mimosa with our 2 children aged 5 and 9. We had a lovely stay there. The gite was charming and was very clean. It has a well stocked kitchen which meant we were able to cook meals when we wanted to. There are 2 bedrooms in the villa, both of which were very large. The downstairs bathroom was also a really good size. It is a beautiful property to stay in, and the surroundings are just lovely. The garden was beautiful and it was good to let the kids run around and play, while we sat in the sun enjoying a glass of wine!!! I only wish we were there in summer, because the pool looked amazing. David and Brenda were fantastic hosts. They were very friendly and had a lot of great information about the local area. I would definately stay there again and would recommend it to other families.
The cottage is in a lovely setting quite close to the river It is conveniently situated for shopping in the ancient town of Montignac and for exploring the beautiful countryside locally. The owners went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortably settled in and that we had everything we needed to enjoy a lovely holiday. Thank you both very much Dorothy and Mike.
Le Four a Sel is In a lovely setting and close to many beautiful towns, villages, fascinating caves and castles, not forgetting the beautiful Vezere and Dordogne rivers. We spent a great two weeks with our young children enjoying the pool, the sights and a very warm welcome from Brenda and David.
We stayed for a week in 2 of the gites for a US-European family vacation for my brother-in-law's 60th birthday. Two generations, 13 people. The property is perfect for a large group, with the large outdoor table and area for lovely dinners. There was a heat wave when we were there, and the pool was always a welcome cooling experience after a day of exploring the nearby caves, old villages, and chateaux. Our hosts informed us of market days, the best dining experiences, and sights.
We loved our stay at Brenda and David's gites. The arrangement of three gites really suited our huge family (22-25 of us) well. There was a welcoming bottle of wine on our table which was just what needed after our long drive. Our gite was spotlessly clean. Brenda and David were a mine of useful information regarding activities in and around Montignac - and there is so much to do. Our family ages range from 3 to 70+ and there was something for everyone - kayaking; climbing; water sports for the adventurous ones and beautiful towns; markets; gardens and, of course, the caves for the more sedate. A really good holiday.
Myself and four friends had an excellent time at Le Four a Sel. Brenda and David were both excellent hosts and extremely helpful in letting us know about nearby attractions and towns. The weather wasn't on our side but we still had an excellent holiday - thoroughly recommend the Saturday market at Sarlat. A car is essential.
The gite is ideally situated to visit this beautiful region and the ground is magnificent in border of river and contains games for children and very attractive swimming pool.
The owners are charming.
We really appreciated(estimated) our stay.
