About Terri & Bill Hughes

Aloha we are Bill & Terri, originally from the Philadelphia area. Bill was stationed on Oahu in the military many years ago, and is a retired trucker. I am currently an accountant for a property management company. We renewed our wedding vows on this very island in 2005. That is how the dream started. We are now semi retired living in paradise. Through VRBO we were able to visit the islands every year affordably before moving here. We want to make the same thing possible for you. Come share the Aloha with us!

Terri & Bill Hughes purchased this apartment in 2011

Why Terri & Bill Hughes chose Hawaii

After many years of traveling to Hawaii we chose this property for the quiet and comfortable elevation in a newer neighborhood. Our home is in a new development with underground utilities, so no ugly power lines to spoil the view. It is in close proximity to shopping, dining, and roads that will lead you in any direction, no matter where on the island you want to travel; yet not in the hustle and bustle of town. And it is only a 10 minute drive to the airport, so when you arrive after a long days travel you are only moments away from relaxation instead of half hour drive or more to the hotel. And when you finally do have to say aloha, you can spend those extra precious moments right here enjoying paradise.

What makes this apartment unique

Very clean newer home in desirable neighborhood, for an affordable price. Owner operated, no outside vendors to deal with, your concerns are ours. Smoking is permitted only on outside Lani. Complimentary Kona Coffee and Kona natural soap is supplied. Beautiful view of coast line and only minutes from the airport with a great location to all activities to the north and south ends of the island. For the days you want to just relax there is a comfortable lani for you to enjoy the gentle breeze, beautiful garden and listen to the birds singing. Never too hot or too cold here, after a warm day at the beach you can come home to the Ohana and the weather is perfect.

Balajadia Family Ohana

  • 5 of 5

Bill and Terry’s Cozy N Quiet Ohana is not your average vacation rental home. It’s like a private island bungalow with a concierge service. Although our gracious hosts did not make any errands nor booked services for us, these weren’t necessary because they thought of everything we could possibly need and more.

Our living space and the surroundings were beautiful and restful. It’s a shame we had to leave it during the day to do our excursions. The beach accessories were all in perfect condition, and saved us so much money by not having to rent them nor fly them in from the mainland. I could go on and on, but to make a long story short, Mr. Bill and Ms. Terry were many steps ahead in anticipating our needs as well as wants.

The best part of it all were the hospitality and knowledge of our hosts. They may not have been brought up in Hawaii but they certainly have the “local” spirit. We love Mr. Bill’s stories and impeccable knowledge of the islands. He loved history and geography, and you can just listen to him “talk story” all day long. We enjoyed Ms. Terry’s treats, especially the homegrown papayas and the homemade cinnamon buns. Most of all, there’s Mr. Auggie (their pet dog). He made it known to us that he owned the house, and once he got comfortable, which didn’t take very long, he sat by us like an old friend. Our last day was very difficult because it felt like saying goodbye to your mom and dad before you head off to college.

Our little family unit of three have been to many vacations in Hawaii. Mr. Bill and Terry’s Cozy N Quiet Ohana is by far the best of them all! Mahalo plenty, and a hui hou kākou.

Cozy stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely cozy place, as advertised, it is in the neighborhood, houses are near by. I was there by myself, but place sleeps 4 people if needed. You have a outdoor grill and nice porch. Bill & Terri, can help you if you need any suggestions, or tips. It was a cozy home away from home for 15 nights!

Owner's Response: Mahalo Yelena for the wonderful review. Terri and I enjoyed having you stay in our Ohana. You are truly a woman of many talents and enjoyed reading the books that you illustrated, and by the way thank you again for them. This is what I enjoy the most about our rental, the fact that we get to meet interesting people from different places and vocations. Thanks again for choosing our rental. Aloha

Great place to stay in the Kailua-Kona area!

  • 5 of 5

After staying on the Hilo side for about a week we rented this Ohana so we could explore the west & north side of the Island. What a great place, so convenient to the airport and all the west/north side activities. Super clean, beautiful inside and out (wish we had more time to enjoy that outside space) Never had a chance to meet Terri but Bill was great making sure we had everything we needed even offering suggestions regarding activities and restaurants if needed. Would highly recommend this Ohana, we would definitely stay there again. Thanks Bill & Terri for sharing your home with us. Sue & Karen

So happy we found this Ohana

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much to Bill and Terri for opening their home to us.This was our first VRBO booking and we were so happy to have found Bill and Terri's property. We couldn't have asked for more. The property is beautiful and well cared for. Bill's love of landscaping and gardening shows. The indoor space was clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable for our stay. The space is small but well organized and cozy. The lanai was our favorite spot! We spent every morning with coffee on the lanai, and every evening enjoying the breeze. We used the grill and ate dinner several nights out there.

Bill and Terri were the perfect hosts and were so friendly and accommodating. Bill's knowledge of the island was an awesome help in figuring out what we wanted to do on our trip. They had everything we needed for our days at the beach; boogie boards, chairs, beach towels, coolers and snorkeling equipment. It was so nice to not have to pack those things in our luggage, and not have to buy them for our trip.

We consider ourselves lucky to have found this little piece of Paradise and hope to visit again next year.

Owner's Response: Aloha Dawn Jason and Maclaren Terri and I truly loved having your family stay with us and are very happy that your first VRBO experience was a good one. We particularly enjoyed your son Maclaren who shared with us his happiness and joyful spirit. We also enjoyed the homemade jarred salmon that you shared with us from Alaska. As our first guests from Alaska, I think we have a lot in common as far as sharing the Aloha, as we like to call it. Mahalo for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you in the future. Hui hoi Bill & Terri

Very nice ohana in a convenient location in Kailua-Kona.

  • 5 of 5

Clean, affordable, really pleasant accommodation in a convenient Kona location. The information and pictures provided by Bill and Terri on their site are accurate. Plenty of street parking. The ohana is well stocked with anything you might need. There is a notebook with good local information and driving directions. Bill is friendly and helpful with questions and advice about the area. Their home is in a pretty neighborhood located higher up, so the nights are really pleasant and cool. There is a large, nicely furnished lanai and bbq just for the use of the rental unit. The property is beautifully landscaped, so sitting on the lanai is really pleasant. You will feel very welcome and I encourage you to stay with Bill and Terri when you are in Kona.

Historic Kailua Kona Village, a quiet seaside town located on the west side of the island. The home of King Kamehameha the Great! The very first capitol of the United Hawaiian Kingdom. Great snorkeling, fishing, and just getting a sun tan beaches. Our home is located about 15 minutes from these places at about 1,000 ft or 0.304 kilometers. Pu' uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park (Place of Refuge) is just a short drive to the south. Many upper mountain roads to the north to cattle ranch areas are easily accessible from our home. Volcanoes National Park is however a two hour drive. Mauna Kea or the (White Mountain) is only an hour away where you can see the stars above the clouds at the top of the world, 14000 ft or 4.267 kilometers. This is just a sample of the Big beautiful island. 13 climate zones in the entire world and we have 11 of them on the Big Island.
