About Carol A. Pitman
My husband and I were married on Bailey Island in 2002 at the Log Cabin Inn. We fell in love with Bailey Island and built a log cabin on Bailey in 2006. In January of 2014 we purchased this home which is next to our home....giving us 3 acres on Bailey now. We are excited for our children and grandchildren to enjoy this beautiful place and for you to experience the serenity and charm of Bailey island too.
Carol A. Pitman purchased this House in 2014
Why Carol A. Pitman chose Bailey Island
Bailey's Hidden Treasure was just completely renovated and beautifully decorated. It is warm and inviting with all modern amenities and lots of space inside and out to relax and play....even an elevated playhouse reached by a safe stairway with side handrails.

Perfect house for our family.
Great week at the house. A perfect home away from home for a family with young kids. Great landlord located near the home.
Beautiful Home! Love hearing the sounds of the ocean!
I had a wedding to attend at the live well farm in harpswell so I booked this house and brought my family (mom, dad, sister) to care for my 6 month old son while I was at the event. We had an amazing weekend. This house is perfect for families with kids! They have everything you could need. From the kids beds to the toys and games to cleaning supplies! My son took his first ride in the baby swing on the playscape and he couldn’t stop giggling. We have a house that we rent out in Killington, Vermont and we loved the way they made it easy to organize trash and recycling. We are going to be implementing this at our rental home! The fall foliage is amazing! Great time of year to be in Maine! Local restaurants were delicious! Thank you!!!
Truly a Hidden Treasure
I searched the VRBO site for a home to accommodate myself, my husband our two adult children and possible guests. My niece was getting married and we needed a home base for a few days. I have to admit that when we turned on to Pasture Road I was wondering if I had made a good choice. The narrow dirt road seemed to wander off into the woods...the house and location turned out to be perfect! The pictures of the house on VRBO are a very accurate portrayal of the space and amenities at the house. The home offers privacy from neighboring homes - surrounded by trees and a beautifully maintained landscape. The wooded paths just a short distance from the house lead to a nice little rocky beach cove or a nice walkway along the path by The Giant Stairs. The accommodations in the house were extremely comfortable. The owner, Carol, has thought of everything when preparing the home for traveling/vacationing guests. The cold water, bottle of wine and chocolates left for us were appreciated. Soaps, lotions, shampoo, bug spray, dish detergent, some spices...were all available for our use. We hosted additional family members for dinner on 2 nights - the space at the home made those evenings very comfortable. In summary, if I require accommodations in the Harpswell area I will definitely check on the availability at The Hidden Treasure. It is truly a gem!
Wonderful stay at Hidden Treasure - we could truely relax with small children in this house
Traveling from NY, Hidden Treasure was prefect for our stay on Bailey Island. Our family of 5 stayed there with plenty of room. There was so much toys and activities at the house to keep our 4 year old and 18 month old busy when we were not exploring the islands. Carol thought of everything for a family to truely relax on vacation including baby gates so we did not have to worry about our 18 month old going up and down the staircase. Below are just some of the great activities we took part in:
-Lobster Boat tour from Bailey Island
-Giant Stairways - only a short walk from the house
-Exploring the many coves on the island - two within a short walk from the house
-Drove to Boothbay Harbor to a train museum and boat ride to Cabbage Island
-Drove to Portland for a Ferry ride to Peaks Island and then a Sea Dogs minor league baseball game
-Cooked lobsters at the house delivered from a local fisherman
-Ice cream at Island Candy a short drive up the road
-Drove to Pophum Beach State Park - beautiful beach
Looking forward to staying here again during our next visit to Maine.
Amazing Amazing Amazing!!!
Bailey's Hidden Treasure was by far one of the best vacations we have ever taken!! Carol thought of literally everything to make our stay perfect! It is the most beautiful home in the most beautiful area. Our kids range in age from 15 to 6 and they all LOVED our stay! I would highly recommend this property for families. We cried when we had to leave. Loved every minute from start to finish. Will most definitely be coming back!!
More than impressed!!
Wow! We had such an awesome stay at The Hidden Treasure. Every time we thought we should've brought something, we turned around and there it was!! Not kidding... from hairdryers to ziploc bags to pitchers for lemonade. We had 5 kids with us and they absolutely loved all the children amenities: treehouse structure, rope swing and sandbox, bikes, floats, games and puzzles etc!! My son basically thought he was a pirate the entire trip. I have an 11 month old and the gates were such a lifesaver! I loved the decor - felt like a magazine layout from Home Goods cottage style. The weather was perfect for us - 80s during the day and cool 60s/high 50s for sleeping - all the windows gave us a perfect-for-sleeping breeze.
I haven't stayed at a vacation house in years - and all I remember is that they always felt stale and minimal - with a couple of pictures here and there and basic (secondhand-like) furniture. Not here!!! It felt like home. Great job, Carol. The kids and I look forward to a return trip!!
Bailey island is a small, beautiful island in Harpswell, ME, accessible by crossing the Cribstone Bridge from Orr's Island. It has a working harbor where lobster boats unload their catch daily. On the island you are surrounded by breathtaking views and an abundance of natural beauty.....once you cross the bridge you feel like you have stepped back in time.
