About CJ Farmer, Owner/Manager

A resident of Georgia since 1980, we built this facility in 2005 to expand my horse business and develop a nature preserve. The cabin was originally put on the master plan and constructed to house equestrian guests visiting the ranch to attend a clinic or a riding vacation. For a better return on the investment, I opened the cabin to non-equestrian visitors.

CJ Farmer, Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2006

Why CJ Farmer, Owner/Manager chose Georgia

I performed volunteer work on a trail system partially located in Banks County for the US Forest Service and could not help but notice how scenic the area was. The rural atmosphere, coupled with a very low crime rate, no traffic issues, yet close to shopping and other necessities made it an appealing choice for personal and business reasons.

What makes this cabin unique

The many noisy shoals and scenic beauty of the river/creek was one of the most appealing features of the property. Once the center of the property was cleared for pasture and construction of the equestrian center, it revealed a beautiful 180 degree ridge view with stunning sunsets. Being able to enjoy the mountainous terrain, the appearance of being in the middle of nowhere, and yet only 10 minutes away 'modern civilization' via three four-lane highways is a huge plus.

The overall appearance was nice

  • 3 of 5

Well there was no grill as listed when I booked the stay. The deck was full of spider's and webs. The grill that was supposed to be there was a fire pit with a grate on one side. Not so bad until we cooked on it and were covered up the next day with chigger bites on me and my wife. The garbage also was left from the last person , so there was no place to put the trash. Those were a few minor things. All around I think it was nice place to stay with the exception of those few things.

Owner's Response: I am surprised to learn that the new portable grill I purchased prior to the last guest was nowhere to be found, except for the grate that was left on the fire pit. Replacing it would have been an easy fix if I had been notified at the time. I apologize for the cleaning service forgetting to pick up the trash, this is the first time that has happened in ten years, and again, could have easily been rectified with one quick phone call or text to me as I live on the premises. With respect to the chiggers and other pests that live outside, I don't think it is fair to hold me accountable for them. From now on I will warn the city folks about creatures that live in the great outdoors, pack insect spray if you are going to spend any time in or near the woods. The inside of the cabin is insect-free. The reason I give out my cell number to guests and encourage them to let me know if they need anything is so I can correct these "minor" issues at the time they are noticed, not to hear about it after the fact. Please be fair and give me a chance to make your stay as pleasant as possible!

Peace and tranquility

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay. The cabin sits just above a beautiful creek, the peaceful sound of the water will take all of your cares away. CJ was fabulous to work with and made our stay everything we had hoped. Having grown up around horses myself it was lovely to be back on a farm and visit with the beautiful horses. We truly enjoyed walks around the property and the lovely pond just in front of the cabin. We look forward to visiting again. It was a lovely Birthday couples get away for the love of my life's birthday. Thank you again CJ.

Everything was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was perfect! It was very cozy and clean. We went fishing and had a chance to go horseback riding as well. Everything is all on the same land, so we didn't really have to leave the cabin. I would definitely go back!

Beautiful, secluded, and a quiet peaceful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend this cabin to everyone. The only negative is that the internet is very weak.

Owner's Response: Yes, the cabin is very quiet, private and secluded. Unfortunately, being in a low spot on the river and surrounded by mountainous terrain may be very scenic and secluded, but makes for a weak wifi signal. That is why there is a warning about that on the cabin listing along with the recommendation that you bring your own hot spot. Although it is inconvenient, in case of emergencies you can drive up the hill a couple of hundred feet and get a strong wifi signal. The quality of your cell provider and cell phone may also affect signal quality. Most guests believe it's worth it!

Wonderful Quiet and Solitude

  • 4 of 5

Our stay at the Grove River Ranch cabin was wonderfully quiet and restful. Nestled above a stream from which you can hear the water running over the rocks and across from a pond and equestrian ranch, the atmosphere was very conducive to relaxation, rest and some great trail walks. We came out of the cabin on a clear evening and were shocked at how many stars we could see, just awesome. We also enjoyed our time spent in the very large outdoor jacuzzi which was already on, up to set temperature and ready for instant aaahhhness!

The cabin itself has some needed changes, such as more lighting, a new propane tank for the gas fireplace, and a few minor home fixes such as a broken stove light. The beds were extremely comfortable and we slept like babies, and the showers were warm with plenty of hot water. We enjoyed both snuggling up on the couch and sofa and watching some movies on the dish TV and listening to music.

If you are interested in eating out and/or shopping, the ranch is only about 20 minutes from Gainesville and 25 minutes from the outlet malls in Commerce. The cute little town of Lula is only 6 miles from the cabin, and here you will find, among other things, a grocery, a pharmacy, and two restaurants.

Overall, I sure hope that my wife and I can visit the Grove River Ranch and stay at the cabin again in the near future!

Owner's Response: It's always nice to hear how our guests enjoy the many unique features of the cabin and it's location. Those of us who live at the ranch have gotten used to seeing a clear view of millions of stars and enjoying the sounds of the river shoals, something city people notice right away and do not take for granted! Although we make every effort to keep the cabin in excellent working condition, new maintenance issues do pop up while being occupied. We appreciate guests reporting any problems so we can get them corrected in a timely manner. The propane tank has been refilled and the stove light has been replaced. We always look forward to returning guests!
