About CJ Farmer, Owner/Manager

A resident of Georgia since 1980, we built this facility in 2005 to expand my horse business and develop a nature preserve. The cabin was originally put on the master plan and constructed to house equestrian guests visiting the ranch to attend a clinic or a riding vacation. For a better return on the investment, I opened the cabin to non-equestrian visitors.

CJ Farmer, Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2006

Why CJ Farmer, Owner/Manager chose Gillsville

I performed volunteer work on a trail system partially located in Banks County for the US Forest Service and could not help but notice how scenic the area was. The rural atmosphere, coupled with a very low crime rate, no traffic issues, yet close to shopping and other necessities made it an appealing choice for personal and business reasons.

What makes this cabin unique

The many noisy shoals and scenic beauty of the river/creek was one of the most appealing features of the property. Once the center of the property was cleared for pasture and construction of the equestrian center, it revealed a beautiful 180 degree ridge view with stunning sunsets. Being able to enjoy the mountainous terrain, the appearance of being in the middle of nowhere, and yet only 10 minutes away 'modern civilization' via three four-lane highways is a huge plus.

Fabulous weekend family getaway

  • 5 of 5

We took our 6 year old child for a weekend getaway and had a wonderful time. The grounds are just beautiful and well maintained. We enjoyed seeing the horses in the stables and during times they were out with their riders. We built a fire pit and made s'mores in the evening and took advantage of the fishing pond. We only wished we had another night because our daughter didn't want to leave! We enjoyed the local pottery places and took a little piece of GA home with us...perfect little getaway

Owner's Response: The biggest compliment of all is when guests don't want to leave! I hope they will plan another visit, and the 6 year old will probably be big enough for a riding lesson. The compliments about the facilities are greatly appreciated.

Wonderful Location

  • 5 of 5

We had a bit of a guys trip up tot he property, including the cabin and two campsites, and had an amazing time. The hikes were lovely, as was the scenery. CJ was incredibly helpful and it was nice to have the owner on the property to help with anything we needed. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: It's so nice to have hikers on our trails to appreciate how pretty they are. Because we are an equestrian center, I think the cabin and campground are often overlooked by the hikers, thinking our trails are for horses only. Hopefully the fellas will plan a return trip!

Our home away from home. We couldn't find a better place to stay than here.

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd time staying here at the cabin. We stayed here 2 years ago. And we loved the place. Our son and his family lives just down the road, about 3 miles away. Very convenient for both of us. Last time we stayed only 5 nights. This time we extended our stay to 12 nights. When it was time to go, it was really hard to leave this place. Our 2 granddaughters, 6 & 4, spent some time with us at the cabin. We took several walks. They loved to go see the horses. We love the horses. The horses were friendly, and came to the fences to let the girls pet them. This time around, we had lovely weather. Except for a couple days of rain. And we loved the hot tub. That got a lot of use. The prices are very reasonable. There is no motel/hotel that can even compare to this cabin. We enjoyed meeting C.J., and visiting with her. Very wonderful & friendly person. We will definitely come here again for a 3rd visit. Many wonderful memories we have here. God really blessed us with this cabin. And very much looking forward to the next time.

We had a very nice day at this lovely cabin set back in the woods - very private and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

The hot tub was so relaxing - very nice touch. Plenty of nice soft towels to dry off with. We grilled steaks on the charcoal grill on the back deck for dinner on Friday night and the kitchen had everything we needed to fix up some sides to go with the steaks. Our only guests were the night sounds you hear in a forest. The weather was gorgeous and we enjoyed our breakfast out on the deck on Saturday morning. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing place to unwind - here it is.

Summer vacation with kids

  • 5 of 5

We stayed one adult and two kids in CJs cabin for almost a month, and it was very nice, we really enjoyed staying there, the cabin surroundings are perfect for active kids, they could safely play outdoors, go see the horses anytime we wanted, fish in the lake, hike the trails in the forrest, and at the same time it was like staying at home. All the shops you need is less than 20 minutes away. I can only recommend a stay with in The River cabin, CJ is a good host. Enjoy

Owner's Response: It is wonderful to host families with such well-behaved kids. I got the privilege of giving them a horseback riding lesson while they were here and probably enjoyed it as much as they did, they were delightful! It was refreshing to see kids having such a good time in the great outdoors as opposed to being glued to their phones and video games. Good job Nick!
