|Minimum Stay||2 - 3 nights|
Planning a family reunion trip to Greece, or perhaps a study group coming to explore the ancient sites of Athens? Our twin duplex vacation rentals are exactly what you have been looking for.
Basil & Carole's American homes in Athens are often copied, but never duplicated. We're still real vacation rental owners - we stay in our home when we are in Athens - so it is truly still our own home away from home. So we know that the beds are great, and the kitchen stays stocked with everything you need to really cook. But we love to be tourists in our adopted city, too. This means that staying with us offers you the very best of both worlds in downtown Athens. It has the convenience of being close to all of Athens' major sites, with a comfortable home to call your own, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
This is a 5 star self catering Athens vacation rental apartment, located on a very quiet street within walking distance to the Acropolis It sleeps anywhere from 2 to 9 guests. Please note that rates start at 200 Euro/night for up to 4 guests, 300 Euro for 6 guests, 400 Euro for 8 guests, etc, making us a FANTASTIC alternative to places like the Grand Bretagne, the Athens Hilton, and other 5 star hotels. The penthouse includes a separate lock-off portion, making it a great option for multiple couples traveling together, offering each their own bedroom and private bathroom, BUT with the added bonus of a large living room and kitchen, along with private outdoor living space and views. See reviews of our past guests linked at the bottom of this page - there is no private home in Athens with as many happy guests as ours.
This luxurious penthouse is perfect for your vacation in Athens, whether it's a short stop or a longer sojourn. Light, bright, and airy, our contemporarily furnished 3 bedroom duplex with 2 (or 3) full baths features a large veranda off the kitchen, and an open living room where you can enjoy your morning coffee away from the noise of the city. Both of the second floor bedrooms open to another veranda where you can relax in the sun and warmth of Greece while curling up with a book. Or you can enjoy an Ouzo on the roof terrace overlooking the Acropolis, Lykavittos, the mountains, and the sea.
The penthouse includes a fantastic gourmet kitchen with granite counters, a dishwasher, stainless appliances, and a floating island that offers the chance to prepare a meal of the freshest finds from one of two nearby weekly farmers markets, or perhaps a purchase from the Central Market that you just had to have, but can't take home. Dine al fresco on the veranda, or under the stars on the roof terrace.
Just returning from a visit to the islands? Wash away the sea salt from your clothes in the full size washing machine and dryer. No car is needed to explore Athens, but if you have brought or rented one, indoor parking is available. Spend the day sightseeing and retreat to your own personal haven, a home away from home, to rest and recharge before enjoying Athens by night.
Wow, who would have thought when I told my husband I wanted to buy a little pied-a-terre in his hometown, Athens, Greece, that I'd end up with the greatest accidental career of my life? Born and raised in Chicago, my love for travel was evident early on. Perhaps it was my arrival in the world, early one December morning, way quicker than my siblings had, in fact so quick we were still enroute to the hospital, and I still hold the title of youngest patient ever admitted to that north suburban hospital! (And thus, as a Sagittarius, characteristically smitten with wunderlust). I traveled my home country extensively with my family as a child, and was fortunate to have parents who encouraged us to study a second language young.
While my language of choice as a child was French, my culture of choice was Greek - My earliest jobs were always in Chicago's Greek diners, my university days filled with hours playing backgammon in the cafeteria with my Greek friends, and my Eurail passes always started and ended my European backpacking holidays in Greece. So no one was surprised when I met Basil, a romantic writer but practicing translator and linguist, born and bred in Athens, but transplanted to Chicago, fell in love, and married him. While our life in Chicago was full, rehabbing a warehouse we purchased to house ourselves, our son and our growing Greek translation agency, I longed to plant some roots for our family in Basil's hometown. A small studio overlooking Mount Lykavittos was to be our Athens crash pad, but thanks to what seemed then an unfortunate turn of events, our home in Athens ended up being the beautiful Athens First Luxury Duplex. Larger than we had planned, offering it as a short term furnished rental seemed the logical way to afford it. Little did we realize that it would become so popular we'd be sleeping on friend's couches rather than in our own Athens home! Tired of being homeless in Athens, we purchased a second penthouse directly adjacent to the Athens First. In 2006 we completed the renovations of three additional short term furnished rentals.
As I said early on, this is the greatest accidental business one could imagine, and I love sharing my adopted city with visitors. Our guests repeatedly thank us for the little extras that often mean so much when you are planning what is often a once in a lifetime trip. As an ex-pat in Athens, I know the wonderful off the beaten path places that can make a holiday special, and I also know how to stay on the tourist path without feeling like you are being herded along with the crowds. Feel free to email me with your questions as you plan your trip to Athens - just one of the little extras guests of Greek Vacation Rentals will find when they share our homes in Athens.
The apartments were booked for a business trip. All large, luxurious apartments. Very comfortable beds and bedding. Great bathrooms with high-end toiletries (Korres) offered complimentary. The kitchen was properly equipped so relaxing meals could be prepared and enjoyed. The terraces offered great views of the city. The location was perfect. Walk to tram stop in less than 5 minutes and walk to metro in less than 15 minutes. Grocery stores, restaurants and bars were all nearby.
As we were a large group we stayed this apartment and other apartments by this owner throughout the months December, January, and February. Our group was international and found the caliber of the accommodations were fantastic.
The apartments were like a home-away-from-home-- suitable for a romantic getaway, a family vacation or even a business trip.
We stayed in Carole's large apartment over Thanksgiving and had a great experience. Carole arranged for car service and several tours and all were perfect. Nadia, the property manager who did our Foodie Tour, was lovely and very responsive to any needs or questions we had throughout the week. Maria, who gave us a tour of the Acropolis, was excellent. Our only regret was not having her come with us on our day at the Peloponnese, as we would have learned so much from her. Location was great- we walked everywhere. Only thing to note is that the master bedroom is quite noisy from street traffic, but i guess that's city living.
The apt is in very good location walk distance from everything ,
Nadie is the person in charge for this apt (she is the best) .
The owner is very helpful ,
Immaculate apartment in a beautiful neighborhood just minutes by taxi from all the important sites. Very nice welcome basket with different treats including a lovely bottle of wine! I can't say enough about the space--2 terraces with lovely views, a great kitchen (fully stocked with everything you might need). Perfect for a family or group of friends!
We loved our stay, fantastic apartment close to everything. We pre booked our tours and even breakfast in our apartment, the owners couldn't have been more helpful. Loved the neighborhood, good restaurants, plenty of shopping and the beds are luxurious. Will book again.
A great location, Easy access to the City center. The owners recommendations of food, restaurants etc. are excellent and if you follow them you live like a greek. A great sunny apartment.
