Barryville Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cozy 2 Bedroom Cabin Walking Distance to the Delaware River And Boating

Location and Attractions:

5 minute walking distance to all the great attractions Barryville has to offer right on the Delaware river. This cool 800 square foot stream-side cabin is located on a quiet developing organic farm. The cabin is within walking distance of boating, swimming, biking, hiking, paintball, ziplining, bird watching, etc. Other attractions close by include antiquing, art galleries (Narrowsburg), horseback riding, skiing (in season) and restaurants. The location is also driving distance (25 minutes) to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and Museum which hosts concerts throughout the season. If you feel like doing some meditation and taking some classes on developing inner peace, the world famous beautiful Kadampa Buddhist Temple and Meditation Center located in Glen Spey is only a 15 minute drive. They also serve a delicious lunch and dinner for only a $5.00 donation per person per meal. They get excellent reviews as one of the best places to visit in upstate New York.

The stream-side cabin is situated in a very unique location in that while it is walking distance to the Delaware River and all its attractions, by the same token it's also just far enough away from the action to still give you peace and quiet to get away from it all, as you can see from the pictures.

Guest Access

There is a large meadow in the front and the property is on a slowly developing organic farm. There are no farm animals as of yet other than a dog and a couple of friendly cats. Guests are also welcome to bring their pets to enjoy this great large outdoor space! Also, the separate main house has laundry facilities and the guests are welcome to wash their laundry by appt., if they are staying more than 3 days. There is also internet access on the property.

Interaction with Guests

The main house is not too far away from the cabin but we respect our guests privacy. The large developing garden is just beyond the meadow in front of the cabin. Guests may see us working on developing our garden from the distance and are welcome to interact with us if they so desire. It's a very laid back setting. No stress....;-) We are also able to offer our guests a substantial weekend discount on boating through an arrangement we have with Cedar Rapids Boating and Restaurant (pictured large building on the Delaware River) which is a 10 minute walk from our location.

The Neighborhood

We love the quiet and solitude of this rural area which sits along the Delaware River. The views are breathtaking. The wildlife is absolutely amazing and you're sure to see some while you're here but not to worry it's always a pleasant relaxing experience when you see hawks, eagles, owls, deers, fox and even the occasional bear if you're lucky.

Getting Around

The Metro North Train from NYC comes into Port Jervis, NY which is 25 minutes by cab to our location. Cab fee is approximately $30 to our location. Cabs are very reliable here but if ever a problem arises, we could accommodate you.

From the Port Authority in NYC, you can take the bus to Monticello (90 minute ride), and then catch a cab to Barryville (about 25 minutes).

Other Things to Note

Any questions feel free to contact us. We hope you enjoy your stay..;-)

The refuge we were looking for

  • 4 of 5

A nice property with the simple, yet complete amenities we were looking for. Last minute arrangements were well handled (including special late-night arrival requirements) by the owner, who was both on hand on the property as well as not interfering with our stay. We will definitely stay there again (just as soon as we can)!

The grounds and accommodations aren't completely set up yet, as the property still evolves into its final state, but everything you would expect is already there: open fields, forest trails, river beds, barbecue, campfire, private bathrooms, clean rooms and working appliances. As advertised, the property is a pleasant walk (about a third of a mile) from river activities on the Delaware, from biking, zip-lining and similar activities. I think it is close to skiing as well (we'll find out this winter). The nearby hamlet is pretty cool too, classic little shops, antiquing, etc.

We came with our dogs, so we cooked all of our meals right on the property - mostly on the grill. Next time, we may leave the dogs at home and try some of the local restaurants.

The owner has a big beautiful Golden Retriever, whom our dogs didn't really get along with, but the arrangements were well handled and our dogs had a blast, as they were given the full run of the 30 acre grounds (we only let them sample the parts nearest our patio).

Oh, and the price was right too.

We can't wait to go back.

Simply a great time.

Five friends and I stayed a Shaune's place for the weekend. It was a cool looking cabin with all the basic amendments you could ask for. We used common sense, but did as we pleased, and Shaune was an excellent host. There's a very good chance we will be staying there again and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for fun time around the woods. The land is just beautiful and we even went on a heavily discounted rafting trip, courtesy of one of Shaune's connection. No complaints.

A white Thanksgiving

  • 4 of 5

Shawn was a great host from the beginning. He made sure the driveway was clear of snow and that the cabin was warm enough when we got there.

The cabin itself is cosy and can accomodates up to 6 people. We celebrated Thanksgiving there, so Shawn told us to bring our pots and pans (kitchenware is pretty basic) and we were able to have a great dinner party there. The view from the porch is beautiful, very relaxing. The place is rustic - nothing fancy here ! - and it's a perfect getaway for a weekend or longer.
