About the property

35% Raft & Kayak Discount At Cedar Rapids On The Delaware River 10 Minute Walk!

Location and Attractions:

This 800 square foot stream side cabin above the Delaware River springs into nature after winter and is a Cozy space to be in as well as the amazing panoramic beauty of New York Scenic Byway Route 97.. Main attraction to the area is the gorgeous Delaware River for rafting and kayaking. There are many hiking trails as well. The area offers many restaurants such as the 2 River Junction which sits above both the Delaware and Lackawaxan Rivers with its floor to ceiling glass and views of the 2 rivers coming together. The Cedar Rapids Bar and Restaurant sits right on the Delaware River and hosts entertainment most weekends. There is also a newly opened micro brewery closeby and if your in the market for a classic car you can visit Churchill Classic Cars in Eldred. When you inquire ask us about the discounts we are able to give our guests on river boating as we have a special arrangement with Cedar Rapids.

We are 5 minute walking distance to all the great attractions Barryville has to offer right on the Delaware river. This cool 800 square foot stream-side cabin is located on a quiet developing organic farm. The cabin is within walking distance of boating, swimming, biking, hiking, paintball, ziplining, bird watching, etc. Other attractions close by include The Zane Grey Museum, The Tusten Trail on 10 Mile River, antiquing, art galleries, horseback riding, skiing (in season) and restaurants. The location is also driving distance (25 minutes) to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and Museum which hosts concerts throughout the season. If you feel like doing some meditation and taking some classes on developing inner peace, the world famous beautiful Kadampa Buddhist Temple and Meditation Center located in Glen Spey is only a 15 minute drive. They also serve a delicious lunch and dinner for only a $5.00 donation per person per meal. They get excellent reviews as one of the best places to visit in upstate New York.

The stream-side cabin is situated in a very unique location in that while it is walking distance to the Delaware River and all its attractions, by the same token it's also just far enough away from the action to still give you peace and quiet to get away from it all, as you can see from the pictures.

Guest Access

There is a large meadow in the front and the property is on a slowly developing organic farm. There are no farm animals as of yet other than a dog and a couple of friendly cats. Guests are also welcome to bring their pets to enjoy this great large outdoor space! Also, the separate main house has laundry facilities and the guests are welcome to wash their laundry by appointment if they are staying more than 3 days. There is also internet access on the property.

Interaction with Guests

The main house is not too far away from the cabin but we respect our guests privacy. The large developing garden is just beyond the meadow in front of the cabin. Guests may see us working on developing our garden from the distance and are welcome to interact with us if they so desire. It's a very laid back setting. No stress....;-) We are also able to offer our guests a substantial weekend discount on boating through an arrangement we have with Cedar Rapids Boating and Restaurant (pictured large building on the Delaware River) which is a 10 minute walk from our location.

The Neighborhood

We love the quiet and solitude of this rural area which sits along the Delaware River. The views are breathtaking. The wildlife is absolutely amazing and you're sure to see some while you're here but not to worry it's always a pleasant relaxing experience when you see hawks, eagles, owls, deers, fox and even the occasional bear if you're lucky.

Getting Around

The Metro North Train from NYC comes into Port Jervis, NY which is 25 minutes by cab to our location. Cab fee is approximately $30 to our location. Cabs are very reliable here but if ever a problem arises, we could accommodate you.

From the Port Authority in NYC, you can take the bus to Monticello (90 minute ride), and then catch a cab to Barryville (about 25 minutes).

Other Things to Note

Any questions feel free to contact us. We hope you enjoy your stay..;-)

Really wonderful, clean and every detail that you would want to feel cozy, warm and welcome included

  • 5 of 5

The owner and wife are warm, sincere and caring! We were so welcome including our dog. They were attentive to all our needs even though the cabin had every single element that is needed to make your stay just relaxing.

It was clean, cozy and the owners and their dog Cody just amazing to be around. Great cabin and would highly recommend it to anyone that is a couple/s or family.

Thanks guys for your welcoming hospitality. We will be there again and again..P.S The pictures do not do justice to your place.

Charming cabin tucked away

  • 4 of 5

Overall we really enjoyed our short stay. My wife, dog and I were only here for 1 night. The cabin is next to a small stream which is peaceful to hear at night, about half mile up the road from the river. There is an adjacent campground downhill however we didn't hear them all. We traveled about 20 minutes north to Narrowsville to get some groceries, enjoyed roasting marshmallows by the fire. The cabin is very clean and well maintained. There's also an extensive movie library in the event it rains. My only suggestion would be removing the nearby old sawed-off back truck. Overall, great stay!

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed yourselves while here and happy it was a good break from busy city life. Often even 1 night in nature can be very beneficial. The stream can be very relaxing to hear in the background. It's also a pretty long stream so can make for a good hike. Dogs love the stream as well.....:-)

Owner's Response: Thank you and your family and the dog for visiting and we enjoyed having you here and seeing you enjoy the space, the firepit and hiking along the brook. Yes it is quiet here with plenty of fresh air and a great retreat from city life and busy life. The cabin has a nice warm rustic country feel to it and we've done much to improve on that by adding central heating, a recently remodeled bathroom as well as upgrades such as larger water heater to make larger groups more comfortable, a larger dvd and book library, high speed internet, small outdoor firepit, etc....Originally this historic cabin was built in 1936 as a seasonal small hunting cabin with one room and expanded over the last 80 years into more rooms with 1 deck and 2 indoor porches. We look at this space as a ongoing work in progress and little by little we will continue to make more upgrades. We also have a additional smaller cabin coming this summer that will sleep up to 2 people offered at a reduced rate.

A great getaway :)

  • 5 of 5

I decided to steal my friends for a great getaway out of the city. A little more than 2 hours away, we drove up to the cabin and met shaune who was great! He was super welcoming and spent all day clearing his driveway to make sure my non 4 wheel drive could get up the drive way(which it did no problem ;) ). The cabin itself had a very rustic feel. Very warm and decently clean. I also appreciated the VHS collection haha. Shaune gave us extra blankets to make sure we were okay for the nights. He also provided lots of pamphlets and information on what's near by! His dog rocked too! The sweetest pup! Nearby about 15-20 minutes is a great ski mountain called big bear which we liked. We spent all day on the mountain and Shaune even encouraged us to keep trying as we are very new to snow sports like snowboarding He even spent time speaking with us and shared his stories with us on the mountain. All in all, it's a great place to escape from the city life with a wonderful owner. I'm hoping to return in the summer and stay there again to enjoy a warm weekend up there. Thank you Shaune for your hospitality and allowing us to enjoy this home away from home!
