About the property

Cozy 2 Bedroom Cabin Walking Distance to the Delaware River & 15 min. to Skiing!

Updated description for winter attractions

Location and Attractions:

This 800 square foot stream side cabin becomes a winter wonderland when the snow has fallen and is a beautiful attraction as well as the amazing panoramic beauty of New York Scenic Byway Route 97.. the other Big attraction of winter is Ski Big Bear located in Lackawaxan PA.. Its a 15 minute drive from the cabin and its a blast to ski the slopes. And yet another attraction which draws a lot of visitors of all faiths in the winter is the Kadampa Buddhist Meditation Center in Glen Spey also a 15 minute drive. The temple is beautiful & peaceful and they serve a daily vegetarian lunch and dinner for only $5 per meal to the public. They have teachings on meditation as well as other classes and all their classes are very reasonably priced. If you need to get away into a tranquil environment with friendly people the Temple is the place.

5 minute walking distance to all the great attractions Barryville has to offer right on the Delaware river. This cool 800 square foot stream-side cabin is located on a quiet developing organic farm. The cabin is within walking distance of boating, swimming, biking, hiking, paintball, ziplining, bird watching, etc. Other attractions close by include antiquing, art galleries (Narrowsburg), horseback riding, skiing (in season) and restaurants. The location is also driving distance (25 minutes) to Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and Museum which hosts concerts throughout the season. If you feel like doing some meditation and taking some classes on developing inner peace, the world famous beautiful Kadampa Buddhist Temple and Meditation Center located in Glen Spey is only a 15 minute drive. They also serve a delicious lunch and dinner for only a $5.00 donation per person per meal. They get excellent reviews as one of the best places to visit in upstate New York.

The stream-side cabin is situated in a very unique location in that while it is walking distance to the Delaware River and all its attractions, by the same token it's also just far enough away from the action to still give you peace and quiet to get away from it all, as you can see from the pictures.

Guest Access

There is a large meadow in the front and the property is on a slowly developing organic farm. There are no farm animals as of yet other than a dog and a couple of friendly cats. Guests are also welcome to bring their pets to enjoy this great large outdoor space! Also, the separate main house has laundry facilities and the guests are welcome to wash their laundry by appt., if they are staying more than 3 days. There is also internet access on the property.

Interaction with Guests

The main house is not too far away from the cabin but we respect our guests privacy. The large developing garden is just beyond the meadow in front of the cabin. Guests may see us working on developing our garden from the distance and are welcome to interact with us if they so desire. It's a very laid back setting. No stress....;-) We are also able to offer our guests a substantial weekend discount on boating through an arrangement we have with Cedar Rapids Boating and Restaurant (pictured large building on the Delaware River) which is a 10 minute walk from our location.

The Neighborhood

We love the quiet and solitude of this rural area which sits along the Delaware River. The views are breathtaking. The wildlife is absolutely amazing and you're sure to see some while you're here but not to worry it's always a pleasant relaxing experience when you see hawks, eagles, owls, deers, fox and even the occasional bear if you're lucky.

Getting Around

The Metro North Train from NYC comes into Port Jervis, NY which is 25 minutes by cab to our location. Cab fee is approximately $30 to our location. Cabs are very reliable here but if ever a problem arises, we could accommodate you.

From the Port Authority in NYC, you can take the bus to Monticello (90 minute ride), and then catch a cab to Barryville (about 25 minutes).

Other Things to Note

Any questions feel free to contact us. We hope you enjoy your stay..;-)

A great getaway :)

  • 5 of 5

I decided to steal my friends for a great getaway out of the city. A little more than 2 hours away, we drove up to the cabin and met shaune who was great! He was super welcoming and spent all day clearing his driveway to make sure my non 4 wheel drive could get up the drive way(which it did no problem ;) ). The cabin itself had a very rustic feel. Very warm and decently clean. I also appreciated the VHS collection haha. Shaune gave us extra blankets to make sure we were okay for the nights. He also provided lots of pamphlets and information on what's near by! His dog rocked too! The sweetest pup! Nearby about 15-20 minutes is a great ski mountain called big bear which we liked. We spent all day on the mountain and Shaune even encouraged us to keep trying as we are very new to snow sports like snowboarding He even spent time speaking with us and shared his stories with us on the mountain. All in all, it's a great place to escape from the city life with a wonderful owner. I'm hoping to return in the summer and stay there again to enjoy a warm weekend up there. Thank you Shaune for your hospitality and allowing us to enjoy this home away from home!

Really wonderful, clean and every detail that you would want to feel cozy, warm and welcome included

  • 5 of 5

The owner and wife are warm, sincere and caring! We were so welcome including our dog. They were attentive to all our needs even though the cabin had every single element that is needed to make your stay just relaxing.

It was clean, cozy and the owners and their dog Cody just amazing to be around. Great cabin and would highly recommend it to anyone that is a couple/s or family.

Thanks guys for your welcoming hospitality. We will be there again and again..P.S The pictures do not do justice to your place.

Home away from home

The cabin is located off the main road and have to take a little drive on a dirt road which i love and its on top of a hill. The cabin is really nice and cozy and has central heating system which i also like and theres a wood burning stove there which the owner Shawn said it wasn't working at the time but that was fine with us. There's a little fire pit outside and would've been really nice to hang out at night but it was raining on my days there so that was a bummer. Also Shawn was a great guy a great guy and very helpful and doesn't live too far away so if you need anything he'll be there to help. The place needs a little more upkeep but than again thats my opinion. It also has all a full kitchen with appliances and cookware and dishes. The livingroom is very well light during the day and the loft on top is so what comfortable and also the bedroom is just fine to sleep in. I would prefer the windows to have some type of curtains or shades for my privacy but than again thats just me. But overal the cabin is very nice and you will probably love it as much as we did.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Petrit for coming and enjoying the cabin, the outdoors and skiing. When the cabin was originally built in 1936 it was just one large room so it evolved & became much larger over the years and it has a very rustic feel to it. Since we've had it, we built a 2nd indoor porch as well as renovated the bathroom, installed a new heating system, enlarged the meadow in front and a few other improvements. I'm sure over the years it's undergone several renovations so we just see it as a work in progress however we will probably add drapes soon. The cabin is in a very private setting .Nature is really the backdrop and we love the feeling of openness that those big windows flooding the place with natural light & overlooking the large meadow. Hope to see you during rafting season.....:-)Thanks again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for visiting Justin. We hope enjoyed the skiing close by and the wildlife. There are lots of eagles out this time of year and theres a snow owl out there that's nesting here and we got a glimpse of. We hear him hooting from time to time.....:-)

This trip to the Poconos was one of the best because of the @ home feeling we received from the host Julio. The Cabin was also very cozy and can sleep much more ppl than we had with us. We look forward to returning one day soon. Thank you once again.

Owner's Response: We look forward to having you back to enjoy rafting season. I'm sure your group had a blast snowmobiling nearby. While this is the NY Catskills, part of the PA Pocono region is just across the Lackawaxan bridge that crosses the Delaware River just a short drive to skiing and other activities. Take care...:-)
