Casa Nana, Beautiful beach house in Agua Amarga, Cabo de Gata Natural Park

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 14 nights

About the property

4 Bedroom house with roof terrace, 80 metres to the beach & bars of Agua Amarga

Casa Nana is a beautiful detached house set in the heart of the charming village of Agua Amarga. It is just an 80 metre stroll to the beach and 50 metres to the bars, restaurants and shops of the small, chic village square. The traditional but recently completely restored house has 4 bedrooms, two double & two twin rooms and comfortably sleeps 8. Both bathrooms are newly renovated, one with a bath and shower, and the other with a walk in shower. There is even an outdoor shower for washing off after the beach! The modern, newly fitted kitchen has all you need to cater for small or large groups and leads directly onto a terrace which is perfect for dining, and can seat 8. There is another smaller terrace that leads directly from the open spacious living area and is perfect for a quiet early morning coffee. Access to our newly built roof terrace is from this terrace. The roof terrace is a great asset to the house and provides ample room for lounging on the sun loungers, barbequing long lunches, or relaxing back under the stars in the evening!

The beaches of Cabo de Gata, the Natural Park in which Agua Amarga is set, are often voted among the best in Europe. There is over 60km of unspoilt coastline. The area is a Unesco Biosphere Reserve and both a land and marine park; the landscapes are unbelievably stunning and the water said to be the cleanest in Europe due to the absence of any pollution. Due to the park's semi-arid climate and position on the edge of Europe's only desert (where the famous 'Spaghetti Westerns' were filmed) the area is officially the sunniest and driest place in Europe.

Cabo de Gata is truly a magical and unique place which enchants those who are lucky enough to find this largely undiscovered corner of Spain.

About The Owner

We live in London and are both in creative fields. I am a sculptor, and find this area of Spain to be incredibly inspirational. We enjoy the beauty, serenity and nature of this part of Spain.

The Owner purchased this house in 2015

Why The Owner chose Agua Amarga

We have been coming to Cabo de Gata Natural Park for the last 10 years. It is so incredibly beautiful and unspoilt that we never tire of it! There are many wild and remote beaches to be enjoyed and explored, but also some beautiful village and town beaches complete with sun lounges and beach restaurants. If you enjoy activities on holiday there are opportunities to do wonderful walks, go horse riding in the campo or on the beach, or try any water sport you can think of! We fell in love with Casa Nana as it has a wonderful open and airy feel to it. We were lucky to retain many of the traditional rustic features in the house whilst updating the kitchen and bathrooms. The house has many beautiful ceramics that were created by the previous owner, Matthew Weir. The house is less than a minute walk to both bars in the square, and the beach, and is a perfect location for a holiday.

What makes this house unique

Agua Amarga is a small, beautiful village in the Natural Park. It is unique because as well as having a very lovely sandy village beach, there are four restaurants/bars that are located directly on the sand. This means you can enjoy a long and relaxing meal without having to leave the beach! We have found this to be a real benefit when holidaying with small children. The traffic that runs through the village is set behind the beach and so you can be assured that your children are safe. The village square has several bars set around it serving drinks and typical local dishes, but around this square there are also several chic boutiques selling clothing, gift items and homewares. Agua Amarga is a very peaceful friendly village but there are still many options available for eating drinking, sports and shopping. It really can provide most of what you might need for a holiday without you having to leave!

The perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here again last year and decided to come back because it's such a magical place. The house is a whole 17 seconds slow paced stroll to the beach, immaculately clean, very spacious and with everything you need. There is also a wonderful large roof terrace with BBQ to enjoy the Spanish night sky. The house is perfectly positioned up a little street off the main village square which is small with a few restaurants and bars and some lovely shops which are certainly worth a browse! Only a 45 minute drive from Almeria airport, plenty of things to do locally including horse riding in the Cabo De Gata this is the perfect place to come and enjoy traditional Spain and all its beauty. Can't recommend enough.

Agua Amarga is a really beautiful place, quiet, lovely beach and very friendly people. However in our opinion Casa Nana is disappointing. Lovely spot and really good roof-terrace but the facilities are very poor, cold showers, poorly equipped kitchen and, when we arrived, not very clean. For the rent charged, it is very over-priced.

Owner's Response: Dear Brian, I am really very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit to Casa Nana. If the showers were cold it may have been that the gas bottle needed replacing? (Which the housekeeper will do if that is the case) I would be interested to know which facilities were lacking in the kitchen as we pride ourselves on providing what we consider to be a well equipped kitchen. Customer feedback is always appreciated if it means we can provide the accommodation our guests expect. If the house was not adequately clean when you arrived, I can only apologise. As a property owner I am always available to answer any complaints and queries as quickly as possible and I would have been happy to help with all of these issues had I been contacted. As it is I am glad you were able to enjoy the company of the locals, the village and the beach. With best wishes, Ellie

Wonderful spring break :)

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at casa nana this Spring! The beach house is just beautiful and the perfect setting to explore the park...if you make it that far...

Myself and partner plus grandparents and 3 children stayed for a week and as other reviews mentioned, found it difficult to think of anything better than strolling to the beach and enjoying the April sun on the fantastic roof terrace!

Saying that, we did make it to mini Hollywood which was great fun and the Tabernas desert stunning to see. Also worth sticking your trainers on for a scramble up from Agua Armaga's beach to the old mine/tunnel for amazing views as well as a scramble down to playa Los muertos up the road with some of the clearest waters I've seen.

The town is peaceful and beautiful and we really fell in love with the place. The house was a brilliant location to take our 5 year old and 22 month old twins being literally a minute from the beach. It was so easy to just stroll down there with them without having to pack up a million things and they could have spent the whole day playing with the sparkly sand.

The house is kitted out with lots of creature comforts and things for the kids. It's beautifully decorated and maintained and it was a real delight to make such a stylish home there for a week. It was a pleasure to be surrounded by so many of Matthew Weirs lovely ceramics inside the house as well as enjoying them in the beautiful tiles of the main square just seconds down the road. Our little ones loved eating their ice creams there after dinner as they watched with interest the local kiddies showing off their Spanish football skills.

I feel lucky to have stumbled across casa nana and really hope to visit again and explore the area some more...Thanks for sharing your beautiful home from home Ellie and family!

Another great week at Casa Nana

  • 5 of 5

We are just back from another great week at Casa Nana; our second time at the property. My partner and I, and our children, love our holidays here. The house is beautifully styled (loved the ceramics) and the addition of the roof terrace, with a fab outdoor cooking area, was a joy! We enjoyed family meal times up there as well as evenings watching the sun go down. Stunning views of the mountains, the sea and the lovely village rooftops.

Even in mid October the weather was really good - we were on the beach most days and enjoyed lazy lunches in two of the restaurants - the black rice and clams at Bar Agua Amarga 3 are two dishes which really stood out!

Thanks for another great stay - fingers crossed we'll be returning next year!

Great house in a lovely spot

  • 4 of 5

We had a great week in late September at Casa Nana. The house in in a perfect location, just a minute on foot away from some friendly (but quiet given the time of year) bars, shops and restaurants, not to mention the beach. We had a great week exploring the national park with our 2 small children and their grandparents - a mixture of days out (an hour or so's drive) to lots of lovely, remote, beautiful beaches and some days spent in Agua Amarga and its own beach. It was lovely to find a bit of coastal Spain that remains fairly untouched and we'll definitely come back to the area again.

Casa Nana itself is lovely - particularly the various outdoor terraces including the roof terrace which has only just been completed. It's got lovely views down to the sea and was a complete surprise. It's well equipped with a modern kitchen and bathrooms, and plenty of space for all. We'd recommend it!

We had a perfect stay at Casa Nana this spring. We found the house so relaxing we admit to not exploring the surrounding area as much as we should have! But just being able to chill on the terraces, and take a stroll into the village and visit the numerous fantastic places to eat and drink, was all we needed & the week just fell away and we felt totally refreshed. The proximity to the beach and all it has to offer and the boutique feel to the village had us captivated, and we will return as soon as we can. This is a gem.

We found the house spotless, the decor and lighting was really thoughtfully laid out. There is a perfect spot in the house for every part of the day. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Casa to anyone wishing to visit this very special part of the world.

Thanks for sharing what is obviously a very loved place, and making our trip super special!

Hope to be back very soon!!
