This home was perfect for our family reunion! The house and setting were beautiful and there was plenty of room so we never felt crowded. The ping pong table was a big hit.
Beautiful home, beautiful views!
Gorgeous view. We saw deer on the property daily and a huge rafter of turkeys one day. We were able to go on a hike up the mountain right from the driveway. The trails were steep at points, but mostly cleared out. Two friendly horses can be seen from the sun room on the adjacent property and we even stopped to pet one one day. The sun room was our favorite part of the house. The ping pong table was fun and the internet and WiFi worked great. We visited Mt. Mitchell, Ashville, Devil's Courthouse, Linville Falls, and Grandad's Apples 'N Such all within 2 hours of the home. It's about a 20 minute drive into Bakersville, a small town with a nice riverwalk and playground and about a 30 minute drive to Burnesville where there's an Ingles for grocery shopping. We also spent Halloween in Burnesville at the Town Square and it was great!
For future guests, be aware of the layout of the house to make sure it works for you. The basement has a bedroom, separate full bathroom, and game room. The main level has the master bedroom and master bath, a half bath (no shower), kitchen, living room, and sun room. The third level has two bedrooms and a loft but no restroom. You could consider the loft upstairs a 5th bedroom with a futon, however there is no privacy there.
Room for improvement:The driveway is gravel and was pretty washed out from recent rains/hurricanes. On rainy days during our stay, it was very difficult for us to get up the driveway in our 2WD Dodge Journey without getting stuck on the combo of mud/leaves. Keep left at the fork on the driveway for a less steep option, but still took multiple attempts for us to get up throughout our stay. Owner did say he would fix this when weather cleared, but that didn't help for our stay. Some of the ceiling in the basement is unfinished, which leaves you feeling like you're in a basement instead of part of the house. Also, there are closets in the upstairs bedrooms that are open to insulation which we felt was unsafe with small children in the house. At the very least, these doors should have locks to keep kids out. Finally, the central heat wasn't sufficient to warm all three levels of the house even after attempting to close certain vents to reroute the heat. We had to use space heaters (provided) in the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms, which was inconvenient with small children, but sufficient to keep us warm. Cleaning crew could do a better job with cobwebs and dust.
Overall, great stay!
Beautiful home in a beautiful spot
We come up for the Bristol races in August. The weather is much nicer than in Florida. Wish we could have brought our new puppy, but she's got a little too much puppy in her for us to bring her to a new location.
Very comfortable accommodations for our needs.
Didn't see any deer or turkey on this visit, but the hummingbirds were still there.
So peaceful and cool
Such a beautiful house and property. Kids caught fireflies every night in the cool evening, great mountain views from the huge enclosed porch. The house was so clean too. Kudos to their cleaner. So much do do in the area, Roan Mtn state park was a real gem, as was Roan mountain itself, the AT is very close, and is one of the best parts of the entire 2100 mile trail. Our family group thoroughly enjoyed every minute here, such a great respite from the hot busy world, Highs were in the 70's, lows in 50s and 60s, low humidity too. We did a rafting trip with Loafers Glory, great people and such fun for all. The owner is very helpful with good advice about activities. We hope to return.
Very private great view of mountains
House was great lots of room had 5 men live their for month you could come in have meal in large kitchen and dining room then everyone go their on way best of all was large sunroom with roll out windows could sleep with them open temps were in 50's at night with large French doors going out from master bedroom.
We came up for the Bristol races & got much more. The hummingbird's, turkey's & deer abound. Found ourselves stopping by the Tractor Supply picking up whole corn. Every time my wife comes up to the mountains, she brings her hummingbird feeder with her. It paid off in spades!
We wanted for nothing. It was just like we were @ home.
