About the property

Cottage w/Lake Views & Open Slip Dock/Perfect for Family-Couples-Friends

Our cottage at the lake is a great location for a family or couples getaway, girls only/guys only weekend, and only 45 minutes from Atlanta. It has 3 bedrooms—two with a queen, and one with a twin-over-double bunk bed. The sleeper sofa in the keeping room is a full size, comfortably sleeping 1 adult or 2 children. The master bath has a tub and the smaller, hall bath has a shower. Watch TV or your favorite movies on our Smart TV or DVD in the Family Room viewed from the most comfortable recliner ever designed. The keeping room and kitchen are flooded with sunlight in the morning and are the gathering place for family and guests while breakfast is prepared. Light the wood burning stove for additional atmosphere.

The woods surrounding the house provides privacy and shades the deck in the morning and again in late afternoon while the home’s high location above the large sloping lawn allows a year round lake view from the large windows in the kitchen and family room, as well as from the deck. The view of the sunset over the water begs dining al fresco. Located on a half-acre, mostly wooded lot (lots of hiding places for Capture the Flag) the lawn is great for tossing a football. We love that our house sits so far from the street. It's quiet here. Turn slowly into the drive when you return from a late dinner and you will most likely see deer in the woods. When you sit on the deck with your early morning coffee, look down the trails. You may see them looking back. On a pre-dawn winter morning, they may be in the front yard, nibbling acorns fallen from the giant oaks. It’s peaceful here. The only neighbor you will hear is the pileated woodpecker.

Follow the leaf strewn trail down to the dock and rest quietly. You will see fish under the dock and maybe witness the flight of a great blue heron. Because our dock is deep in the cove, the water is calm without wakes or sounds from boats passing on the lake. It is a safe place to swim, play, and float. We have a covered, single slip dock that is open, and boat and jet ski rentals (Port Royal),as well as a public boat ramp (Mountain View Park), are just minutes from the property by land or by water. Our dock is drought proof! Even when the lake level drops, we always have 15-20 feet under our dock, and where many properties are located in shallow tributaries, our cove provides full lake access from the Olympic Rowing venue, all the way to Buford Dam.

Passing the dock, you can continue your walk through the woods around the point and along the lake shore trail for a celebration of fall color. If you look out the windows during a heavy snow, you will have the impression you are on a mountain top above the clouds. In the spring, the profusion of gardenia blooms scent the air, and the woods are full of birdsong and speckled with the white blooms of indigenous rhododendron. The slam of the screen door during family picnics will sound just like your childhood.

This is not just a house at the lake. It is a true lake house.

If you wish to venture out, we are minutes from downtown Gainesville (check out and don’t miss the free concerts on the square), Starbucks (a must for my husband), shopping malls, grocery stores, Multi-Movie Theaters, live theater, parks with walking trails, hiking, waterfalls, and every type of dining experience from candle lit, white linen to fast food. We are, of course, close to Lake Lanier Islands and all the activities there. We are also not far from Chicopee Woods Golf Course, North Georgia Premium Outlets, Georgia wineries, Gibbs Gardens, all the fun in Dahlonega including a tour of the gold mines and free shows at the planetarium (check out, and you might even catch a rodeo at the Cumming Fairgrounds.

About Audrey

My husband and I are transplanted Yankees, although we've been in Atlanta for over 30 years. We're looking forward to retirement and a permanent move to Gainesville on Lake Lanier!

Audrey purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Audrey chose Lake Lanier

We bought our lake house as a weekend getaway, but find that we spend more and more time here, away from the traffic and noise of the city. We love that our house is a true lake house. We love the views, the quiet, and the DEER! We see them 3 or 4 times a week. We love settling in with a good book while flames dance in the wood burning stove. We love that our house has history. It faces what was once a county road, now under water with the development of the lake. It was built by a man who worked construction and it originally had a human dumbwaiter instead of basement steps. Rooms have been added over the years. We bought the house from a couple who were high school sweethearts & who were married only after being reunited at their 20 year reunion. The wood bookcases & the stained glass window that is over the door to the master bedroom came from a 1920’s house in her Nebraska hometown. She loved gardening, & the greenhouse was a Valentine’s Day surprise from her husband.

What makes this cottage unique

Private. Quiet. Beautiful views. Tranquil cove for sunbathing & water play. Our dock is drought proof! We still had 15' under our dock and access to all of the lake from the Olympic Rowing Venue all the way to Buford Dam when the lake level dropped 21' in 2007! We have an open, covered dock for your watercraft and we are close to boat and jet ski rentals. In addition to all the water play on the lake, we are close to downtown Gainesville--groceries, shopping, antiques, theater, movies, restaurants, public parks w/trails, playground, picnic areas for larger gatherings, historic sites, museums, art galleries, fabulous spa. And for a longer stay, we are the perfect location for day trips to Gibbs Gardens, Georgia Wineries, festivals and offerings of other North Georgia towns. We have compiled an extensive directory of activities in the area including Sports & Adventure, Leisure Activites (including theater & the arts), Food & Dining, Shopping (including Antiques), and a current calendar of events for your stay. Contact us before you arrive and tell us your interests. We can help you plan your vacation before you arrive!

Very Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Every aspect was taken care of by the owners. They even had Legos and Mr. Potato Head for my 3 year old to play with. He loved having something to do. The home was just as advertised. We had everything we needed plus more. The owners provided details of everything to do from Leisure to shopping to restaurants. We could not have asked for more. We will definitely use them again as we travel through the area.

Very pleasant stay on Lake Lanier

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a much needed quiet weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was very clean and comfortable, and the price was great. The owners had a lot of useful information available regarding restaurants and things to do. I would definitely go back and or recommend it to friends and family.

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

This was such a nice place for my family. Very clean and organized. The lake front location and setting were beautiful. We did some fishing off the boat dock. Our kids took advantage of all the local hiking (one hiking trip was to a beautiful waterfall). There were lots of restaurants within a 5 minute drive. We also purchased groceries at Publix and did some home cooking. We spent some nights in front of the wood burning stove. It was so relaxing. It was a much needed vacation and we would go back in a heartbeat. Great job Audrey and thank you.

Very nice spot for our weekend get-a-way. Audrey was so easy to work with and accommodating.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great visit and lots of room to visit with each other. I agree with others that it is a very steep walk down to the lake and tests you coming back up. Owner went out of her way to provide us with a lot of local events information and local / close by places to eat. Well supplied and very clean.
