We are surrounded by wildlife out here, and lots of towering pines. The cabin is tucked into the forest with rolling hills, solid forest and tons of trails. The little lake is secluded, not developed and the kayaks/canoes/paddle boats are free to you to use. The cabin was designed for a couple but we added a bunk bed because so many of our guests want to bring more family. There is a private campfire area landscaped in a little cove with big boulders right out the cabin's front door. The cabin has a queen bed and a bunk in the open living space. A propane fireplace sets in the center of the cabin, a full kitchen that is equipped with all eating/cooking utensils, coffee maker, toaster, blender, crock, & baking sheets, an open living space, the bathroom is custom built with a double headed shower with a built in bench, custom sink and shelves, all the linens are provided and meticulously cleaned for the kitchen, bed, & bath. We outfit the cabin with children's games, coloring, etc. , adult's games like cribbage, family conversation starters, puzzles, books & magazines & don't forget the DVD collection if you want to hole up and watch movies! Outside, the deck wraps around so you can watch the wildlife, which has included bear, turkeys, deer, tons of squirrels, a porcupine that tried to eat our front door, birds and many others. We supply chairs for sitting and a charcoal BBQ grill. A starry sky here is amazing and can be so quiet at night it is gorgeous. A Winter stay is my favorite, as we leave snowshoes for the guests and it is the most secluded time of the year. Our guests have even brought and decorated Christmas trees! Since we are right on the snowmobile trail guests can hop right on their snowmobiles for a day on the trails too. ATVs are welcome here as well and there are epic trails 25 minutes away. 100's of feet of forest separate you from the nearest anything on the property, the cabin is private. There are 200 acres all together to explore and hundreds of acres of public land too. We operate as The Black Lantern Resort and privacy is our forte. All the acreage is very fun to explore, we do have a golf cart for rent too. The lake is great for spotting wildlife and beavers since they built a hut and dammed up the lake, it is fun to fish too, not for swimming though. We have a little dock house that has life jackets and some fishing gear in it that our guests are welcome to use. A playground is there for the children too:) We encourage people to bring bicycles as well.

About Annie Eastey
My name is Annie Eastey and we run this place with every family member and friend we can! It takes an army :) We all just love this place, it is a meticulously maintained property and lots of fun. We are easy breezy people and are here to help you do nothing or everything and enjoy yourself!
Annie Eastey purchased this Cabin in 2007
Why Annie Eastey chose Shevlin
My family vacationed to a LITTLE cabin in the woods right by here where we indulged by cooking on a wood stove, pumping our own water and using kerosene lamps instead of electricity, and card games instead of TV. I have not been able to shake this part of the forest and it is where my heart is. I came back to Northern MN the first chance I realized I couldn't live without it.

It was a fantastic spot for a quiet getaway with young kids. Lots of little walks to do just around the cabin and a playground nearby as well. The cabin itself is lovely and relaxing. Would totally recommend it!
Quiet and Beautiful
We had an amazing time celebrating our anniversary at this quiet, clean, beautiful cabin that has everything you could possibly need for a getaway and more! It's a cabin with comfort, a wonderful fireplace for the cold months, space to move around in, and a small kitchen so you can prepare food without having to go out if you don't want to. The wilderness walks on the groomed trails were just what we needed to get some exercise and fresh air too. Thank you!!
My husband and I celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary with an extended road trip thru Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota, in mid September, 2018. The Eleanor cabin was exactly as described and very welcoming. Everything we needed was there. A great kitchen, scenic dining area, comfy, comfy bed, beautiful fire place. Wonderful deck, from which to view the gorgeous night sky. BarBQ grill, fire pit complete with rock and adirondack chairs. Plenty of firewood allowed us to sit around a roaring fire on a cool evening. State of the art bathroom. Very close to Itasca State Park and the mouth of the mighty Mississippi. Trails near the cabin.
Absenting ourselves from Television was much easier than we would have anticipated. A CD player and a DVD player are available. But we enjoyed playing games, some we brought with us but lots of board games provided. We soon did not care if we knew which baseball team was winning of or what the top news story was.
Having shared all the above we would be amiss at not relating the greatest treasures...Annie and her family and staff checked on us often to be sure we were o.k We hope to return, maybe in the snowy winter.
Lovely cabin in beautiful wooded area...
We stayed in the lovely cabin “Eleanor” for 4 nights. The cabin is nestled in the woods. It was so great to sit out on the deck in the morning with your coffee and just take in the serenity and listen to all the birds. The cabin itself is amazing. All of the amenities you need and just beautiful, unique touches. The bathroom is done in custom tile and is amazing! We spoke with Annie a couple of times and she is a joy! Always close by to make sure you have everything you need. This is a wonderful place to stay in a great cabin and nature all around you. We highly recommend it and we will be back to stay there again!
Great Place to stay
This cabin had everything we needed for a relaxing, comfortable get-away. Close to Itaska State Park where we spend a whole day of hiking and sight-seeing. Also close to Bemidji which is a really nice little town to visit. The owner stopped by one morning to introduce herself and see if we needed anything. We didn't lack for anything here.
Fantastic cabin in beautiful location
My spouse and I along with our 13 year old son spent two nights here, and we loved it. It is a wonderfully designed cabin with beautiful wood inside and out. The property was clean and well-appointed. The beds were very comfortable! The location is super quiet and surrounded by forest with a good number of trails to walk on. We went snowshoeing through the forest and across the fields, enjoying every minute of it. We even went for a night walk by the light of the moon. The owner is extremely responsive and friendly (via email). We highly recommend this place and will visit it again for sure.
Thank you Ken, It means a lot to all of us that you find what you are looking for when you come. Somehow that little cabin in the middle of nowhere really does the trick:)) Thank you for going out of your way to write the review, it matters, and I appreciate it and your business. Thank you Ken, you are putting smiles on the crew's faces this morning.
We are located directly between Bemidji and Itasca state Park. Choosing which to visit is hard, considering days can fly by spending time at each location. That is, if you can convince yourself to leave the cabin 'Eleanor' and property surrounding her. There are 100's of acres to roam on and explore, there are trails for walking and ATVing through the forest, berry picking at our place or the berry farm a couple miles down the road. The cabin is situated on stilts in the canopy of the pines away from everything else with a personal boulder landscaped fire pit and wrap around deck.
Ter-Lee Gardens: a couple miles away has asparagus, strawberry, raspberry, gourd and pumpkin picking.
Itasca State Park: 20 miles away has a sandy beach, home to the origin of the mighty Mississippi, a lodge to dine at, souvenir store, ice cream shoppe, ferry boat rides, bicycle & boat rentals, & ENDLESS trails! The place is gorgeous.
Bemidji, is home to the Sanford Event Center that hosts wonderful events and conventions regularly, the town regularly puts on many festivals: Dragon Boat Festivals, St. Paddys Parade, Water Carnival, Art Fairs, the town is highly involved in the community and provides us with lots to do. The historic side of town is home to the famous Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue OX statues, antique shopping and great eating all with just a stroll around the old downtown, there is even a small children's museum and REALLY good live theater. The newer part of Bemidji has the newer stores and eating like TJ MAXX/Target & MANY restaurants.
We are in the center of three Indian reservations that provide 3 Spectacular Casinos within 35-45 minutes, the beautiful Ojibwa language is prevalent in the area and lives even on local signage. We are surrounded by fishing lakes, if you want to hop from lake to lake too. Again, that is if you can convince yourself to leave the beautiful forest on the property where cabin Eleanor is, and the Black Lantern Resort. Guests also enjoy ATVing in the area and find their ways down to local restaurants South of us on day trips!
