About Stephen & Sarah Polacek

We currently live in Chester, Virginia with our two children. Stephen is active duty in the United States Army and works as a logistic officer. Our family truly enjoys the outdoors. Southern Oregon is one of our favorite places to spend time.

Stephen & Sarah Polacek purchased this house in 2011

Why Stephen & Sarah Polacek chose Southern Oregon

We both grew up in North Bend, along the Oregon coast. Together with our families, we spent our childhood summers camping and rafting the Rogue. As children, we would float by the homes along the side of the river and always dream about someday owning one of them.

In 2011, we decided it was time to fulfill that dream and purchased the house from its original owner. We have spent the last few years remodeling it inside and out. The home is now a favorite gathering place for our family and friends. We are enjoying watching the next generation create memories at the River House and discovering the magic of the Rogue River. The home truly is our childhood dream come true and our favorite place to vacation. We are so happy to share the magic with you!

What makes this house unique

The property has a park like setting with large grassy areas with lots of trees. The riverfront is a beautiful thing to wake up to each day. Sitting on the deck and looking at it flow by is very peaceful. The deck also serves as a wildlife viewing area. There is a family of deer that will often stroll through the yard in the evening to head to the river to get a drink. Lots of squirrels, birds, and other critters to enjoy.

The river house lacked for nothing. It was a long drive to get places but worth it. We stayed for a week and felt at home. I would go again.

SO FUN!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Riverfront home! No complaints! Had a few things to discuss with Sarah and Stephen upon arrival, but those got ironed out easily as they responded so quickly. Our boys LOVED all the space, and the access to the river! Kitchen is incredibly well stocked. Instructions are clear. House is homey! Go stay at this amazing place! Our only complaint was that our time was too short! Next time we're coming for the week!

Beautiful River House

  • 5 of 5

One of my best friends lives in Seattle and I live in Sacramento, and we wanted to "meet in the middle" with our dogs. This property was perfectly located. The house is lovely...frankly the pictures don't do it justice. The house was well stocked with everything, dishes, tupperwares, pots & pans, etc and a pretty complete pantry as well. The property is also beautiful. We went down to the river a couple of times with the dogs which was great (it was HOT the first day we were there). Unfortunately, the river was too high to get off the bank on the second day, but I'm certain later in the year it would be especially great. Stephen & Sarah were very responsive to all our questions. Stephen had to come and stock up the garage for the next guests and they gave us ample notice...we would not have even known when he was there if I hadn't happened to be out front. All in all it was a wonderful visit and we hope to be back soon! Next time we'll explore more of the surrounding areas!

Hope to be back for longer

  • 5 of 5

Despite the absence of owners and impersonal check-in, everything was as promised and better; there were many personal, caring touches. So much attention to detail, one feels like a welcome guest. The proximity to the river, and those wonderful trees are complemented by the various available seating arrangements. We found the inside to be impeccable, well maintained, and everything functioned like new. Plus, everything is well equipped and it does feel very homey from the stocked pantry to the books, toys, etc in addition to the expected. The hot/cold water dispenser and extra water bottle were most welcome and unexpected.

The 10 am checkout time was a bit of a challenge as in addition to packing and getting oneself ready, there was quite a bit to do - though all very reasonable requests - before leaving the house. However, there was mention that one could ask for an extension.

We had a wonderful time in this peaceful, quiet oasis and we hope to be back. Many thanks

Beautiful house and beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

My siblings and I rented this house to host my father's 80th birthday celebration. It was a very comfortable house that was fully stocked on almost anything you would need. Incredibly beautiful grassy area overlooking the Rogue River and a nice large deck with two gas grills. We chose to go out to breakfast one morning and we were only a few minutes from some good choices in the small town of Merlin. It was perfect and I highly recommend this vacation rental.
