Pahoa House Rental Photos and Description

Get away from it all yet be so close to so much! Discover true Hawaii.

Relax & Rejuvenate in our comfy, brand new jungle retreat. This truly is an 'Escape from the Ordinary!'

This area is lush and green and has the best weather on the island. The prevailing trade winds blow from just the right direction to keep the temperature pleasant all year round. Tropical, lush and green with fresh clean air (literally the cleanest air on earth!) and a multitude of fabulous things to see and do.

This lovely home is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated and designed for ultra comfortable off-grid living. Located in the Black Sands community, surrounded by jungle, the coqui frogs sing you to sleep at night and it's especially exciting when we get an intense rain shower at night, as the roof is metal, and the sounds are awesomely jungle!

You'll find a guest book at the house with details and directions to spectacular spots all within just a few miles from the house, including 'secret spots' that you will not find in any tourist book.

This is the perfect spot for adventure seekers and those who do not depend on TV for entertainment.

So very, very nice to get away from it all!

In this area called Puna, we are blessed to have so many great things to see and do. Here you will find pristine waters and the cleanest air on earth. Our home is just minutes to beaches such as Kehena, or enjoy a fabulous hike along the kings trail to the white sand beach called Shipmans. Swim in natural geo-thermically heated hot pools such as Ahalanui and the queens bath at Isaac Hale, world-class snorkeling at Kapoho Tide Pools and Champagne Ponds, surfing at Isaac Hale beach park, fishing at Mackenzie Park, spelunking, lava viewing, natural steam vents, fantastic markets and the quaint village of Pahoa with it's outdoor market, quaint shops, family-friendly and fine dining.

We are near Kalani with a vast array of activities including massage, yoga, 'static dance' and a fabulous vegan restaurant, or just wander the gorgeous acreage.

Every Sunday, just up hwy 130 you'll find the biggest, best and most diversified farmer's market in the entire Hawaiian Island chain - The Maku'u market, with everything you would expect and much more including live music and dancing.

Every Wednesday evening, just 2 miles away at Uncle Robert's you'll find a 'must do' - a fantastic night market complete with local artisans, fabulous local food vendors, Kava bar and live music and dancing - you may even be able to take in a hula show! Eat, drink & be merry! Sway to the rhythm of authentic Hawaiian slack key and ukulele and enjoy the sense of community here.

Nice and roomy. Everything you need to be off grid. We never experienced being off grid, better than anticipated. Glad we had a chance to visit.

Thank you, Sara!

Truly a house that let's you escapefrom the ordinary.

  • 5 of 5

First of all the house is adorable. The outside is a sweet yellow cottage literally in the middle of the jungle. There is a surprising number of fruit trees on the property in which you can help yourself to, when they are ripe and ready to go. Who doesn't love extremely fresh fruit? Inside is spacious with a full kitchen, a queen sized bed, and still plenty of room for a dance party (if that's your thing). There is a huge walled in lanai in the back that easily serves as a second bedroom. There was no lack of space and it immediately felt like home. The bathroom is classy and large, complete with running hot water even without the generator.

This house is off the grid and that's half the fun. There is an easy to use generator under the carport. The stove and fridge run on propane. We found ourselves barely using the generator and embracing the quiet atmosphere and most nights using only a lantern after dark.

The house is conveniently located near some pretty cool stuff. It's only a few minute drive to Uncle Robert's, a restaurant/bar that hosts an open air market every Wednesday evening with live music and plenty of delicious food (I may also be super obsessed with Aunty's lilikoi butter). This is located at black sands beach. A huge stretch of "new land" or lava you can hike out onto to a black beach. There is also some killer snorkeling near by and many other adventures, as detailed in a handy welcome book inside the house.

This house is indeed an escape from the ordinary. It's a luxurious house, totally off the grid, that acts as a gateway to the many adventures of the big island. I had so much fun and absolutely adore this house. I will be back.

What a beautiful place you have Sara. The whole neighborhood is friendly and laid back. The house is great. Never did meet Marcy tho. And I didn't try her cell due to no reception or internet. No worries we got by just fine. Having grown up on a homestead in Alaska starting in 1959 and knowing that the days would be shorter than Alaska I came prepared with my own headlamps. Now the subject of off grid..I have an off grid system at my home with solar panels inverter/charger batteries and back up generator that is considered off-grid. Mine is 4000W so I have lites TV Elec Frig etc. 240V AC power off-grid. Works well but was a considerable investment. I started with a single small solar panel 12v batteries and a small affordable 120V inverter that gave me lights (LED) TV Power chargers and the such. Low power usage If you were to put a small panel up and a small power inverter it would put some power in for lights and such. If people not used to the proper usage left lites on etc the inverter would shut off automatically. And the Honda would need to charge to reset power. A small setup like that would be affordable and make the whole experience very relaxing in my own opinion. A sight line that shows the water level in the tank would round out upgrades to your place that would take anxieties out for the folks visiting your place. Oh and update your book for folks coming in the future it's good but not quite accurate. I hope we did you well while we stayed there. Thank you for having us. In it's current setup I would rate your place a 5 star and recommend it to to world as a place to consider staying at. Alan Meyer

Lovely home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful trip to the big Island and staying in your off-grid cabin was a huge part of the success. Everything about the cabin was just as described on the VRBO website. The property was clean and inviting. I know earlier reviews mentioned water problems but those have been addressed as we had no issues with a ready supply of hot water. The propane refrigerator kept everything cold and the oil lamps were very relaxing and more than enough light at night. We didn't even finish the first tank of Gas in the generator during our 9 night stay. The local area had so much to offer we feel like coming back for another stay just to take advantage of those items. The fact that it was off-grid helped us enjoy the evenings as a family because the usual distractions were not around. The neighbor who let us in to the cabin was an excellent help in finding our way around and helping us get things set up. I have already recommended this to my father. Mahalo from the Hiatts!
