Spacious, comfortable with views across town towards Mdina.
A good apartment on the 4th floor with a terrace that would be lovely in the sunshine. The owner, Richard, is helpful and very accommodating, quick to resolve a confusion over unexpected fees for a credit card payment. Four stars reflect the fact that the apartment is not close to any facilities bar a corner shop and a supermarket. We found a car to be essential.
Fantastic view! Well maintained and modern.
We enjoyed our week long stay at this property. 180 degree view of south and west of the island. We took advantage of the public transportation and explored the entire island as well as Gozo. No car is needed. We would stay here again. Thanks.
We had a wonderful time in Malta. Richard’s house was a great value. It is close to supermarkets, however, the public transportation is very difficult to reach from his house. The house also seemed like it could use a good deep cleaning. And a coffee maker would’ve been very nice. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay. Richard was very kind.
Clean spacious with everything you need
The photos don’t lie!
I had looked at several holiday lets in Malta and found them too small/too dark/too expensive/lacking outside space or in holiday complexes, which did not interest us. Richard’s Sunny Penthouse, however, is clean, comfortable, bright, spacious and tasteful. I loved the tiling, particularly in the bathrooms, and of course the large terrace is a major attraction. We needed the awning, playing musical chairs to stay in the shade, because it certainly lived up to its sunny name. In the evenings it was great for watching the fireworks - lower down you would only hear the bangs but not see the flashes. These were not cheap pyrotechnics!
The apartment is well equipped, though when I did ask Richard for a few small items he brought them round the next day, even though I had said there was no hurry. We were in no doubt we could have asked for his help and he would have provided it without hesitation.
We went as a couple and it was great to have a bathroom each! Nice also to have free use of the telephone for all Malta destinations.
We took the car and it was very handy to have underground parking right there, and out of the sun. With the car, you get a taxi service to and from the airport, and that saves a lot of hanging around. A Garmin satnav was provided but I preferred to use the GPS and map app on my phone. Traffic can be slow, but we had no complaints about Maltese drivers.
The Convenience Store in the same block was surprisingly well stocked and there is also an Arkadia/Waitrose (yes!) really close by. The apartment is in a residential area and there are no restaurants or cafes handy, but the rest of the island is very accessible from this location.
Recommended sights to see: Blue Grotto, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temples, Marsaxlokk, Mdina, catacombs, Mosta Rotunda, cruise round the harbours from Sliema, Valetta, Vittoriosa (Birgu) and Gozo (particularly Xlendi). There are numerous places to swim, not many with sand but the rocky places have steps into the sea.
Best restaurants: Fontanella in Mdina for the view, Terrazzo, up the hill in Xlendi (Gozo) for its sheer pleasantness, Rampila in Valetta for the romantic terrace in the ramparts, Medina in Mdina for its beautiful courtyard and superb food, and Café Reale in the square in Xaghra (Gozo) for providing the stand-out taste of the holiday for me in the shape of its melon sorbet, though its other cakes and ice creams were extremely tempting. We also had nice omelettes for lunch there.
We booked the apartment and a pickup from the airport, the airport is quite small compared with others we have used and the driver was easily found and the trip to the apartment was fine. Richard the owner met us at the entrance and explained all regarding the apartment, he was an extremely likeable man, it was obvious he would be available at any time should we require his help. The apartment was very good and we did not find it lacking in any way, it was roomy, clean and had all appliances you would need on holiday, if anything there was more than we needed. The balcony was a great feature with it having full sun from around 9.00 am.
It is important to get to grips with the bus service, on leaving the apartment turn right and right again, passed the supermarket to the top of the hill for bus number 32, less than 5 minutes to get there. The bus is, or should be, on a 1 hour service and will take you to Valletta bus station where you can get a bus to anywhere on the island. To return the 32 bus is from a stand found at the bottom end of the bus station, Take a photo of bus times. The 110 bus at the stop outside the supermarket will take you to St Juliens, again take photo of buss times.Valletta is not too big a place and most can be covered in 2 - 3 days. Get a 7 day bus pass, 21 euros, at the bus station but be prepared for a wait of around 30 mins it is busy. Most of the churches palaces seem to have connections to the Knights of St. John, a wealth bunch of guys.
The country to us seemed to be in need of serious work to the properties,
there were unfinished projects everywhere large and small, builders seemed reluctant to tidy up. The location of the apartment regarding a pub or restaurant was poor, supermarket, Waitrose, and a very well stocked convenience store was as good as anyone could want. Run out of wine? Downstairs , next door and back in less than 5 minutes with a replacement.
All said we had a fine holiday
