Located just three minutes by car off of Carmel Valley Road, the house is a brisk twenty minute walk into Carmel Valley Village and a leisurely twenty minute Drive into Carmel-by-the-Sea! This house is located on a sunny hillside in Hitchcock Canyon, home to many animals such as foxes, skunks, raccoon, ~ and hawks making lazy circles in the sky!

Many excellent hiking trails are nearby. Kahn Ranch is within walking distance of the property, however, it is drive-in only with a permit which may be obtained online: http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailId=HGW254-075. Kahn Ranch, a recent addition to Garland Park, is a jewel with easy to moderate trails and a lovely waterfall during wet months : www.mprpd.org

Tiles collected by my partners on their travels in South America, Spain, Africa and many other countries decorate this colorful home; visual surprises are sure to bring a few smiles:) Views to the south, west and north offer serenity at all hours and the decks surrounding this property offer privacy with an invitation to dream. Star gaze in one of the comfy Adirondack chairs. Look for the turtle hanging out in the river of stone or hunt for fossils on the property (we'll tell you where!!) There is outdoor table on the south patio; the stairway off this patio gives you access to the Master bedroom with deck.
The Master bedroom features a Queen bed with an unusual European rattan bed frame. Fluffy comforters and linens envelope one in cozy comfort. As you prepare for sleep, the sky offers you views of the moon as it glides across the sky. With vaulted ceilings, it is very roomy and bright; it has fabulous views of Osborne Ridge to the south and west. A huge bureau and lots of closet space (DVD library in the closet!) this room has enough space for a crib and/or sleeping bags!
Two steps from the Master bedroom is the upstairs bathroom, with a shower/tub and an amazing wall of opaque, glass blocks, allowing the sun to shine in while ensuring complete privacy.
The second upstairs bedroom is roomy and bright with tall windows facing west and north. It has a Queen bed, high boy, Swedish style chair to relax and read in, extra futon cushions stored in the large closet and a very unusual piece of antique 'furniture'; the owner is brilliant at finding some of the most amazing objects and art to decorate the house with!
Walking down the stairs, linger a moment on the landing to enjoy the exquisite tile work while looking out the window on the east for wildlife sightings! You might just see a pair of intelligent, animal eyes peeking back at you!
The downstairs bedroom, with private access to the bathroom, has a Queen size bed and french doors leading to your own patio area.
The downstairs bathroom, accessible from the bedroom or the living area is decorated with tiles of iris, hand-crafted by local artisans and commissioned by the owners.
The renovated kitchen offers a gas stove/oven, refrigerator w/ice maker, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, blender and has a washer/dryer hidden in the pantry! Stoneware dinner service, utensils, pots and pans, cutlery ~ everything one might need to make their stay here as comfortable as possible are in the well-stocked kitchen.
Sit inside or enjoy dining al fresco on the patio. Fire up the propane BBQ while feasting your senses on the views, the colors, the sounds and the smells of the canyon while enjoying homemade fare. Or order take-out from one of the restaurants in the village. Carmel Valley Village has hamburger joints, Mexican, Thai and French food, a steak house and pizza! Los Laureles Lodge, 1.4 mi. west on CV Road, is rich in history and tradition as is Wells Fargo, formerly owned by Bernardus Lodge. The restaurant continues its 5 star cuisine in an historical building with a history rich in Carmel Valley lore. The food is excellent; sit in the bar, ask Miss Anita to mix up some excellent cocktails and listen to music while waiting for your table.
There are numerous wine tasting rooms within walking distance, a dog-friendly park and the community pool; Carmel Valley Community Pool's snack bar has the best hamburgers and Caprese salads and french fries around! (summer only)
There are several art galleries exhibiting local art and also one guest artist per month; check out Valley Girls' and William Arthur's studio on Center Street! Laguna Seca-Mazda Raceway/Recreational area is 9.8 mi. away. Carmel Beach and River Mouth Beach are approximately 25 minutes by car. Asilomar Beach and Steinbeck's Cannery Row in Pacific Grove is 40 minutes away.
Garland Ranch is approximately a 10 minute drive west on Carmel Valley Road. It has excellent hiking terrain and with well-marked trails. Their Nature Center is fun for kids of all ages and their newly-renovated Information Center has hanging several local artists' photography and paintings as well as textile art. The docents are welcoming, well-informed and share their love for this exquisite park which is only a portion of what the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District has to offer.
Holman Ranch is a five minute drive from Sunny Hill and approximately 24 minutes by foot! Many events such as weddings, family reunions and anniversaries are held on these exquisite, historical grounds. If you are an equestrian or would like to be, Holman Ranch is for you!
If you have free time, google my friend Kiki Wow and check out her events page. Not only is she gorgeous, talented and incredibly energetic, she keeps her fingers on the pulse of the goings-on locally, from music, dancing and plein air painting to mosaic classes! Music is her first love and she knows and has worked with so many artists in the industry whose names you would recognize immediately!
The living area, with a flat-screen tv for watching DVD's (only-no cable) has comfortable, leather sofas that invite one to sink down, put your feet up and snooze. Or choose one of the board or card games, perhaps Jenga?, gather the family have some good, old-fashioned fun!
We are definitely child and pet friendly; however, there is a fee for pets. If you bring your dog/cat without discussing this with me, you will be charged double the pet fee. The yard is not fully-fenced. Dogs must stay on lead or respond to voice command! No roaming off-property, please. Carmel Beach (16.5 mi.) is very dog-friendly; it's a great place to visit and let your canine friend romp in the waves.
Please let me know if you are intending to bring your pet (dog, cat, etc.) and what kind of pet you have. I have a pet gate I will provide, if necessary.
There are two houses on Sunny Hill Drive. The Property Manager and family live in the second house, a private residence. If you need me, please call! Parking is limited. There is no garage or carport. We can accommodate three cars. Speak with me about your parking needs.

Or take a stroll into the village and fire up your computer, enjoy a latte and pastry at The Wild Goose Cafe, a little coffee shop in the village with amazing goodies; just a brisk 20 minutes walk (or five minute drive) and/or Rosie's Cracker Barrel, a ten minute walk, (three to drive). Gorgeous southern views from both patios, propane BBQ to roast those veggies you just bought at CV's Sunday Farmer's Market and perhaps local wine from any of the excellent vineyards here and voila! Our stay at Kathy's property was amazing! The house is absolutely beautiful with such intentional decorations. The art is beautiful all around the house and the tilework really wowed us. We stayed with 2 other couples and had a great time cooking and eating outside and enjoying the views. It is a very short drive to the Carmel Valley Village where you have great wine tasting and restaurants. It really was absolutely worth it and we cannot wait to come back! Thank you Kathy for everything!
We came to Carmel Valley to attended a wedding at Holman Ranch. The property is very well maintained and the perfect location if you have an event at this venue.
Situated on a quiet road with a deck that looks out to beautiful views, the cabin is an ideal getaway for those looking for quiet time in nature. The cabin itself, as well as the property, were clean and well-maintained. At the same time, we were a short car ride from downtown Carmel Valley, Garland Ranch park, and the tennis courts of Carmel Valley Ranch. The kitchen is well-equipped with basics, and the gas grill was a bonus. We ate all of our meals at the home. Kathleen is super responsive if you need anything. We'll be back.
It was quirky in a good way. The co-owner was very accommodating even though we showed up 2 hours early. The home was decorated in a neat NoCal manner and was most comfortable. The outside seating areas were very nice and comfortable and the beds were comfortable. It was plenty large enough for the four of us and close to the downtown Carmel Valley businesses. We would recommend to others and enjoyed several wineries and restaurants nearby several of which the co-owner recommended.
This is the second time we've stayed here and we hope to come back often. It's a wonderful little house in a peaceful, tree-filled setting above a small creek. It's in spotless condition. Kathy takes really good care of it. It's comfortable, very well stocked, and well designed. We enjoyed having meals on the patio on one side of the house and reading in the sun on another part of the patio. Carmel Village is a welcoming, fun little town with, it seems, about 1,000 wineries! The house and town (with its park, playground, and feeding the chickens at Cow Girl winery) are also perfect for young kids. While there, be sure to go down to the coast to Point Lobos State Preserve, one of the most stunningly beautiful places in the U.S.
Although not far off the main Carmel Valley Road, this house makes you feel you are truly away from it all as the vistas are of trees everywhere! The rooms upstairs and downstairs are all laid out nicely so that you feel comfortable in it the second you walk in the front door (from the cute front patio). There is also a patio off of the living room with a lovely view that has an outdoor table and gas grill. All three bedrooms are charming and the tile work in the downstairs bathroom is really beautiful and lively. The galley kitchen is well equipped and although slightly narrow it worked just fine when we made breakfast or dinner at the house. Inside and out are lovely or maybe even whimsical touches with the decorating. Kathy, the owner, is as nice as could be and very helpful to me in my planning our outside the house restaurant meals and, of course, the wine tasting rooms (since this was our prime reason for being in the Carmel Valley)! This is a great property that I highly recommend.
Laguna Seca Raceway is a quick 15 minute drive over Laureles Grade from Carmel Valley Village! Can't get much closer than that! The Vintage Car Parade usually travels through the village on the way back to Pebble Beach:) Amazing eye candy for vintage car lovers!
'Imperative for the human spirit. The sound of the waterfalls and music in the zero gravity chair room is delightful. I truly feel like we all need a place like Refuge.' Guests must be clothed.
