Be by yourself and also part of a village
A wonderful place - you can spend all day inside the courtyard or on the little terrace outside the bedroom watching the sea, the mountains, the sun and the moon rise and set, and listening to the cocks, donkeys, cats, interspersed by the occasional voices of villagers. It is quiet, and yet you are within 3 minutes of a grocery and a bakery. Great for hiking and for returning to a simpler lifestyle for a few weeks
A dream team to make the house, the plants and myself delighted, thank you so much!
"A lovely, roomy, authent...
"A lovely, roomy, authentically restored village home with stupendous views down the hillside to the harbor. Romantic and quiet, it's a perfect place to write, read, and simply sit and drink in the surroundings. Well supplied with everything, from kitchen to bath."
Beautiful authentic Greek village house.
We can't recommend this beautiful house enough. In the middle of a classic greek hill top village, a maze of white houses and tiny alleys and lanes, with fabulous sun set views. The house is simply but elegantly decorated . Very convenient for shops and local restaurants. If you enjoy walking, this is paradise. Either up into the mountains or down to the local beach.
It's so lovely to stay somewhere that is unique, and full of character, and not just another bland, holiday home that could be anywhere. This is Greece at it's best. Looking forward to a return visit.
Perfect in every way!
This is my idea of a perfect Greek village house: an old house which has been beautifully restored in keeping with the village and island style, but without losing its traditional character and charm. The house is comfortable and well-equipped and has the nicest bathroom of any house in Langada I have rented. It was spotlessly clean and everything functioned.
A wonderful and special week
We had a wonderful week in Anne's gorgeous and comfortable house with its fantastic view down to the bay. It was simply and charmingly furnished and we quickly made ourselves at home. We loved our breakfasts and evening drinks on the terrace outside the main upstairs bedroom, and appreciated the coolness of the interior during the lazy, hot afternoons.
Amorgos is a beautiful island and the small local village of Langada is a delight - stunning views, loads of white steps between the ancient white washed houses, many cats, quite a few mules, several tavernas and two grocery stores. Who could ask for more? We had thought of hiring a car but the bus was so easy to use we just fitted our schedule around it. By the way, don't climb all the way to the top of the village to catch the bus. There's an unofficial, unmarked bus stop which you can reach by walking through to the main road from nearby Taverna Nikos (which, by the way, we thought was the pick of the restaurants). And the pastry shop/cafe (Tratarisma) right next to the same bus stop is simply wonderful.
One word of warning for those who find steps a problem - not only would the village be hard, but the house itself has its main bedroom up a stone stairway without rails. Going down to the bathroom at night did not bother us one iota but it might be a problem for some.
Anne was away when we were there, but stayed in touch and ensured everything worked well. She was thoughtful and generous in all the arrangements she made with us. We very much hope to return.
The island is accessed by 2 harbours:Katapola and Aegiali(the nearest one).
3 weekly ferry crossing in winter, and 6 during summer.
The trip takes from 4 to 10 hours depending on th etype of ferry.
Please note water should be used sparingly.
