What makes this Villa unique
The villa's pool size is 13 m x 6 m. The pool’s depth is 1,35m on the shallow end and 2,20 m on the deep end. One of the largest pools you can find in a private villa holiday rental in Crete. Hours of fun await you. Children just love the pool. It is really beautiful and ideal for lap swimming. You can dive into this pool without any hesitation. Even enjoy swimming in the evening hours for the pool is automatically lit at night. One of the favorite spots for all guests is the villa's large terrace. The large dining table is just right for poolside breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The bamboo garden chairs and table sitting arrangement is a quiet niche in the shade overlooking the beautiful pool. The barbeque is ready for "souvlaki" and lamb chops or whatever you decide to grill.

Beautiful house in a lovely town in the heart of the wine district.
Dimitris couldn't have been a better host. From arranging car hire (autocreta were lovely and avoids the queues at the normal Hertz etc), to cooking us a lovely dinner for the first evening. His Raki was also much appreciated. The house is lovely and the pool a fantastic relief from the heat of the day. Episkopi has everything you need and is very close to the wine regions & Knossos. We also climbed Mt Youhtas and drove up to the Lassitou plateau. The archeological museum in Heraklion is amazing, even if Heraklion is noisy and busy compared to the calm of Episkopi and surrounding villages. Everyone was very friendly, with Raki offered in shops and the local baker and vans handing out free buscuits and olive oil. Can't rate it highly enough. Only regret - we didn't visit Rhous winery early enough in the week so that we could get through enough of their wine before flying home. Thank you Dimitris!
Amazingly spacious, private and tranquil villa, huge pool and wonderful host
We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend Villa Helidona, it's a beautifully restored old stone house, every room is large and airy, and furnished to create a wonderfully welcoming home from home. The villa is spotlessly clean, with everything you could need to relax and enjoy your stay. Dimitris, your host, is very kind and welcoming, he has provided lots of information in the villa, and will answer any questions you may have during your stay. All the basics are provided in your welcome basket and the local restaurant can deliver your first night's meal of traditional food.
A perfect start to the day is a relaxing breakfast under the shade of the lime tree in the old stone courtyard, then through to the sunny pool for a swim. In the evening you can enjoy watching the swallows dipping in the pool.
The villa is on the edge of the village, so perfectly private and peaceful, but the village shops, a couple of restaurants and bars are just a few steps away. Everyone in Episkopi was very friendly and helpful.
The villa is in a great location to explore Crete, but a car is essential to see the sights - if you do use the bus, timetables show you the start of the journey only, not the times for your stop!
Villa Helidona is an amazing place and it was a total pleasure to stay there, we can't recommend it highly enough! Book now, you'll love it.
A huge thank you to Dimitris!
Thank you so much for your nice review and the kind words written. I'am glad that you enjoyed your stay in Villa Helidona and you had a good time in village Episkopi as well. It was a big pleasure to meet and accommodate you, and I will be more than happy to see you again in the near future.
Wishing you all the best.
Lovely peaceful villa, in great location
The property is very spacious with great facilities including a beautiful pool. There is a very peaceful courtyard at the front where we took breakfast and a great terrace at the back with plenty of tables & chairs and a super sized pool. The interior is beautifully decorated.
The villa is situated in a small village but has all the basic facilities you need and within very easy walking distance. The people are lovely and friendly and really helpful. There is a bakery which sells delicious cappuccinos and ice-cream.
The owner, Dimitris, is extremely nice and helpful and provided great hospitality on our first evening there.
The villa is also close to some amazing sites (Knossos), very easy for Heraklion and close to a great winery (Boutari).
I would very much recommend the villa to other travellers - we had a great stay and the Greek people are charming, polite and friendly.
Unique villa, great pool, enjoy the real Crete
Villa Helidona is ideal if you are looking for any of the following. First for visiting Crete’s historical sites - such as Knossos or the Heraklion archaeological museum. Second for experiencing life in a real Cretan village – we never saw another tourist in our ten days in Episkopi. Third if you like to swim – the villa pool is very large, clean and private.
The villa itself is unique, full of antique furniture and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is small but fully equipped and all other rooms are spacious. After lazing by the pool in the sun, the kitchen courtyard is a great place to cool down and enjoy a coffee. The nearest beach, 15 minutes due north, is a long narrow stretch of good sand with one or two tavernas ( and a view of flights landing at Heraklion). Episkopi has village shops for anything you are likely to need.
Dimitris is the perfect host. He welcomed us to the villa, showed how everything worked and gave tips on the area. He was then available by phone for any questions.
Three notes that may be important for some people. To reach the third bedroom, or go from there to the bathroom, you need to go through the courtyard – though it is completely private. If you have children who can’t swim you will need to be careful – the pool does not have a shallow area. A car is recommended, but you may need to park a small distance from the villa as the village streets are quite narrow.
A great villa and pool to enjoy, and to see the real and historical Crete.
Thank you for reviewing my property. I am glad you've had a good time in Villa Helidona.
I hope to see you again!
Beautiful house, perfect host, lovely cretan village. Highly recommended.
I hope you are all fine and you are enjoying your time in Greece Thank you for your review on my property.
Many regards and kisses to your daughter
Open the green gate& you're in a world of your own
Villa helidona is situated near an old church in the middle of the village Episkopi a quiet and authentic place. The villa is a world inside a world. From the moment you enter there is absolute privacy and you feel at home. You can stay for days without feeling the need to go out, there are many "corners" in the house to sit and relax in them so you can move around different areas during the day. There is a beautiful front court yard facing the kitchen and a huge back yard with a wonderful huge swimming pool, with view to the mountains.
The house itself is beautifully arranged with antique furniture and special art works. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. The house was clean organized and very well maintained. The owner was more than helpful for every request or question we had.
The village itself is small and populated with very nice and friendly people. It is quiet yet you can find there everything you need from supermarket to pharmacy to tavern.
It's a very special and unique house, yet also very comfortable, a chance to get a taste of the true and authentic "village life" in Greece and of course the swimming pool which was unforgettable.
Olive groves and vineyards surround the village. Many small Byzantine churches with frescos from the Cretan School of Renaissance (14th/15th century) are found in and around the village. Minoan finds from the 2nd millennium B.C. have been discovered around Episkopi. Heraklion Summer Festival: July - September. Houdetsi Labyrinth Concerts: June - August. During the month of October, we offer a special treat to our clients: Kazani - see how the Cretans brew their Schnapps 'Raki' - this is almost like moon shining!
