Lovely stone 3 bed cottage in quiet village with delightful views.
Valley Field is a pretty semi-detached cottage, next door to the owner's home in the quiet village of Froggatt but with its own entrance and drive. The village is set below Froggatt Edge, well known to climbers and walkers, hidden from the main roads. Owned by the family for over 20 years, it was refurbished in 2016 to offer a comfortable holiday in the Peak District National Park in the Derbyshire Dales. With lovely views over the River Derwent, a central village location and easy walking from the front door, you would be forgiven for thinking you are far from civilisation but we are easy to get to and very conveniently placed for the Steel City of Sheffield; excellent for theatre and the Georgian market town of Chesterfield with its famous wonky spire on the parish church of St Mary and All Saints. Trains can be picked up 5 mins drive away at Grindleford for Manchester and Sheffield. Buxton, Bakewell and Matlock and all the beautiful attractions of the Dark Peak are easy to get to from here including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Eyam Hall and a bit further afield Hardwick Hall. Your walking options are infinite; the Monsal Trail is close by for cycling and walking and open air swimming is available in Hathersage...the Derbyshire Dales is littered with interesting pubs, modern and ancient history and outdoor activities......
The cottage is semi-detached, with the owners occupying the other house and has its own entrances. It has 3 bedrooms for 5; one 5' double, one twin and one single. A bathroom with spacious walk in shower - sorry no bath and a cloakroom downstairs. Entrance lobby for removing your outdoor gear, well equipped kitchen with electric oven, microwave and dishwasher (bring your slippers as the tiled floor can be cool), dining room with log burner and sitting room with an easy to light gas stove when you are shattered after a hard day outside. Finally a good utility with washing machine, tumble dryer and fridge - freezer available in the bike shed - and space to hang up soggy gear. Gas central heating, wood, towels and bed linen, soap powder etc all included. Terraced space to the side for parking and sitting and a lawned front garden to watch the world go by. The outlook from the front garden will be more open, probably for most of this year as sadly, we are having to take down a tree that lost a big branch late last year. We have decided that it sensible to clear the border at the same time so for those of you who have visited before, it will look a little different for a while.
A rather temperamental broadband supply and mobile service depending on who you are with but recently a good 4G service, Freeview television and an excellent selection of Blue ray DVDs, books and games. Children over 8 preferably please - only as we are not equipped for very small children and up to 2 well behaved dogs by arrangement....the garden is not watertight for dogs as one of our reviews has pointed out; all official exit points are gated but a determined canine will get round them. Also, the driveway for the house is tight. For most folk and vehicles it works but I do say in the joining instructions that you are very welcome to use the main driveway which is easier.
Please note changeover days are generally Fridays and Mondays. However, I shall do my best to offer other days where possible.

About Sarah Davidson
My husband and I are originally from Sheffield. We meant to stay in the city but Froggatt beckoned when we needed a new home on the south side. Needless to say 22 years have flown by and we're still here because it's lovely. Four grown and growing children and two labradors means we are still a busy household. We are in and out but hopefully, you can enjoy this terrific place too in peace. We still have many places left to visit in the National Park and Derbyshire and the walking options must be infinite.
Why Sarah Davidson chose Derbyshire Dales District
There is plenty to do inside and out all year round. Chatsworth will be open again soon; always worth the financial outlay to visit. Lots of routes for walking from the door or hop in the car to a different starting point. There are some lovely bike trails a short or shortish distance away as I hesitate to recommend cycling for little ones around us on the roads. Spring is a lovely time of year and Autumn can be beautiful - bright sunny days and cold clear nights; lots of tree colour and heather on the moors from August. Our visitors do love the view across the valley from the front of the house and when the leaves fall off, the famous Froggatt Edge can be seen. So we are well positioned for climbers and walkers. And finally, quite a few of our guests last year stayed for weddings - we are very close to the Maynard in Grindleford, Fischers in Baslow, Hassop Hall Hotel, The Cavendish in Baslow and The George in Hathersage;if they can't fit you in!

A beautiful well equipped cottage in an idyllic location. Would highly recommend.
A lovely, well equipped cottage in great location
We have just had a wonderful week, despite the snowy weather. The cottage is well equipped, cosy and conveniently situated. We swam at Hathersage open air pool, ran and walked on the fells and dales, cycled the hills. The cottage was well equipped and provided us with the perfect base for our week of activities. Lots of good pubs locally. We will be back! Sarah and Miles are the perfect hosts.
Great place, great location. I will definitely be recommending to others.
Everything was fab. The property was very clean and comfortable. The views are superb. It's definitely worth a trip to Ladybower reservoir. Bakewell is a nice little town. The walk around the river just down from the house is very pleasent. All in all we had a great couple of days.
Quality cottage in a stunning location!
What a wonderful place to see the New Year in!!
Great communications from the owner with arrival and departure instructions and a nice warm welcome when we got there.
The cottage is stunning and beautifully fitted out with quality fixtures & furnishings. It's bigger than the pictures elude to and so comfortable ... the beds are amazing! Sarah has thought of everything you could possibly need and the added touches really do make it a home from home, the lovely Christmas decorations were a real bonus and thank you for the bottle of fizz which definitely helped our celebrations go with a pop!! I've also never seen such an extensive range of games, books & DVDs in a rental property ... we even had a giggle playing Connect 4 one evening!!!
Shame the weather wasn't better as there are some lovely outdoor spaces to sit and take in the stunning view across the river! Great walks straight from the door along the river and the outside tap and space inside the back door made it easy to clean off the dogs and our muddy boots.
Lots of interesting places to see without spending hours in the car too. Due to the weather we took a drive to Buxton and had a walk round the Pavillion Gardens ... what a fab place and could imagine it being great for families on a nice day. Then we called in for a wander round the lovely Bakewell on the way back.
For us the only very minor drawbacks to the property ... it's not fully enclosed, so having 2 curious dogs meant we had to be on our toes as they could get through to neighbouring gardens & road if gates left open, just good to be aware if you have younger dogs. Also getting onto the drive is very tight, I'm no novice at reversing and don't have the biggest car but did find it pretty hairy especially in the dark, however, the road is quiet so you do have time to manoeuvre.
Thanks again to Sarah for a wonderful stay!!
Stunning area, beautiful property
This cottage had absolutely everything we could have wanted. It was decorated to a very high standard and extremely clean. The rooms were lovely and the setting was stunning. There were even Bluetooth enabled speakers so we could play our own music and digital radios both down and upstairs. A coffee machine in the kitchen and a wonderful fireplace in the dining room. We loved the fact that it was so close to some beautiful Derbyshire walks and to Chatsworth House. We have already recommended it to others.
A bonus break after a wedding
Everything is fabulous, from top to bottom of the cottage. Love the fresh flowers and Earl Grey tea loaf to welcome us.
This is 2nd this year, we will certainly be booking again.
There are many famous beauty spots such as Kinder Scout in Edale, Mam Tor in Castleton and Monsal Dale to be explored and plenty of historic buildings - Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Eyam Hall and Peveril Castle in Castleton. The reservoirs at Ladybower are worth a look and you can walk/cycle all the way round for a nice day out. Or just walk from the front door...
