We welcome you to Red Cliff House and all it has to offer.

Red Cliff House is all about relaxation! Located in a peaceful and tranquil setting in County Kerry, with breathtaking views of Ballinskelligs Bay and Waterville, this beautiful self catering house has a wonderful sense of space and light. Situated on a secluded 1 acre site, 2,000 sq feet, it is finished to a high standard. Underfloor heating is installed throughout and each room is individually thermostatically controlled for your comfort.

The living and dining room commands panoramic views of Reenroe beach, Waterville and Ballinskelligs Bay. It is a place where you can relax and enjoy the views no matter what the weather. The superb kitchen is fully equipped with all modern appliances and a Rangmaster cooker along with a breakfast bar.

The house sleeps 8 people comfortably. Two of the four bedrooms are ensuite while the large main bathroom has a whirlpool bath and walk in power shower.

Outside there is a lovely patio area with seating and BBQ area. To the front of the house is an open veranda with seating overlooking Reenroe beach and Ballinskelligs Bay. A lovely place place to relax and enjoy the wonderful views.

Whether you are relaxing in the living room or enjoying breakfast on the veranda Red Cliff House offers you wonderful views sea and mountains. It is these views coupled with the peace and tranquility of the setting that our guests comment on as being one of the highlights of their stay. In the evening you can watch the lights of Waterville flicker across the bay as the sun sets and enjoy a glass of wine or two.

Beaches, Water Sports, Fishing:

Red Cliff House just off the Wild Atlantic Way route which is famous for its scenery and coastline. The beaches in the vicinity are some of the best in Kerry. Reenroe beach is the closest and you can see it clearly from the house. This beach is over a mile long and is great for walking, running, surfing, horse riding, fishing and swimming with good sand for building sand castles too! Surfing classes are held here regularly, weather permitting, during the summer months.

There are also several other beaches within easy reach of Red Cliff House including Ballinskelligs Beach. The house comes equipped with fold up beach charis and a picnic bag which you can bring with you to the beach for the picnic on the beach.

Boats can be hired locally for sea angling trips and there are plenty of operators to choose.

Walking, Hill Walking, Cycling:

There are many local walks and cycling routes of various levels and abilities, all with great views of the country side. Bicyles can be hired locally in Caherciveen and the house has a large utility room/garage area where you can store bikes and fishing rods.

We highly recommend the Emlagh Loop walk which is easily accessible from the Red Cliff House. This is a National Loop Walk which takes you though the countryside and along Reenroe beach.

The Bolus Head walk in Ballinskelligs has fantastic views overlooking St. Finan’s Bay and the Skellig Rocks. Along the way you will visit the Cill Rialaig Famine Village, Cill Rialaig Artist’s Retreat, and the early Christian ruins of Cill Rialaig monastic settlement with Oratory and perhaps stop off at the Cill Rialaig Art Gallery and Cafe in Dungeagan Village or Barbara's coffee shop in Ballinskelligs for refreshments. There are many other walks in the area, including Bray Tower and Geokaun Mountain in Valentia, details of which are provided in our guide book in the house or from the local tourist office.

Skellig Michael and Star Wars

A trip to the world famous Skelligs Rock UNESCO herritage site is a must. This is also a location for the recent Star Wars film. Boats leave during the Summer months from Ballinskelligs and Portmagee - a short drive away.

The Skellig Rock is now also famous for its Hollywood connection. It is in the recently released Star Wars movie The Force Awakens. You can easily organise a trip locally to this famous rock while staying at Red Cliff House.

Other Local Attractions and Eating Out:

There is plenty to see and do locally. Visit Valentia Island to see the Slate Quarry, Grotto and Light House or try candle making with the kids. Tour the Skellig Ring and the Ring of Kerry. Visit Skellig Chocolate factory in St. Finans Bay (The Glen) and sample their award winning choclate.

Cill Rialaig pre-famine village is located in Ballinskelligs and Cill Rialaig Art Gallery and Cafe is located in Dun Geagan village which is two miles away. You will be spoilt for choice if you wish to go hill walking or cycling and there are many archaeological sites of interest in the area.

There are plenty of places to choose from for eating out from cafes to pub food to gourmet restaurants. Fresh seafood is a speciality in many restaurants and pubs. Many pubs have Traditional Irish music and dancing nights which are well worth going to see.

A stay at Red Cliff House is an excellent way to sample the delights of what Ballinskelligs, Waterville, The Glen and the surrounding areas have to offer. You will not want to leave! Just read our reviews from other visitors and see how happy they were to choose Red Cliff House for their holiday. 'Céad míle fáilte' - a hundred thousand welcomes!

About Maria & John King

We grew up in the area and then moved to other parts of Ireland over the years to work. Ever opportunity we get we come back to visit this wonderful location and in 2005 we decided to build a holiday home here.

Maria & John King purchased this house in 2006

Why Maria & John King chose Ireland

Of all the places we have travelled there is nowhere quiet like the location of Red Cliff House. It's beautiful views and proximity to beaches and wonderful walks are what attracted us to this place. There is no better view, we think, then the one from Red Cliff House. We hope that you too will enjoy our wonderful holiday home. Welcome to Red Cliff House! We hope you enjoy staying at this wonderful bit of heaven as much as we do. Céad míle fáilte - a hundred thousand welcomes!

What makes this house unique

Put simply we fell in love with the area around Red Cliff House because of it's amazing views and quiet location. From the living room, the patio and veranda you can see mountains, sea/beach along with forestry and fields. This view of nature is simply wonderful and we think it is the best view in the area!

The other unique aspect to Red Cliff House is the privacy. It has its own private road access. So that means no noisy cars passing by the house entrance or busy roads close to the entrance - making it safe for children to play outside the house. Peace and relaxation in abundance..... :)

Guestbook comments from the owner

Cormfortable, well equipped house with super views. Lovely, remote location but short drive to beaches/shops/pub. The trade off of having to jump into the car is more than worth it for the treat of being in the countryside and the freedom it gives the children.

Great launch pad to travel the coastline from Valentia Island easily up to Caherdaniel. Besides the great beaches - loads to do in the area...

The house is exactly as described and lived up to our expectations. If we revisit the area, I would have no hesitation in staying here again..

We had the most wonderful week at Red Cliff House - the house itself is magnificent with every comfort of home and more! The view from the living room is amazing - the sea, mountains, islands and even the sound of the sea - most relaxing holiday and highly recommended. Many thanks Maria and John - didn't want to leave but at least we left refreshed and ready to face the world again!

Regards June

The house is perfect. So comfortable with everything you could want. We loved staying home in the evenings cooking and making a fire. The bedrooms have so much storage and all the beds are comfortable and cosy. Beautiful views. Enjoyed visiting Skellig Michael, the chocolate factory, Dingle and all the fabulous beaches. So taken with Kerry.

Wonderful Vacation in Eire :-)

  • 5 of 5

We spent wonderful two weeks at Red Cliff House. The house has every comfort you need. The view from the living room is amazing. We were 4 adults and two children (8 & 14) and everyone like it so much. All rooms are large and very clean. The garden is a nice "soccer playground" and the BBQ makes it perfect.

The kitchen has every detail you need. The house manager Brendan was kind and helpful. Many thanks.

The house is in a central location for day trips around the Ring of Kerry, Dingle, Skelligs and so on....

We will come back....

Relaxing vacation in a comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

We had a really relaxing and enjoyable holiday using this very comfortable house. The view and the surroundings are very beautiful, typical for the Irish landscape. The house is located remotely and we enjoyed the silence and the peacefullness. There are some short but very beautiful excursions to do to the Skelligs Ring and nearby Valentia Island. There is also the Ring of Kerry but due to the remoteness of the house visiting Killarney for example requires some driving time.

Located just off the Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way Red Cliff House is within 10 minutes drive of Caherciveen (birthplace of Daniel O'Connell). Waterville (famous for it's 18 hole golf course and lake) and the fishing village of Portmagee are also nearby.

Boat trips to the famous Skellig UNESCO site depart locally from Ballinskelligs and Portmagee during the summer season, weather permitting. The Skellig is now also famous for being part of the latest Star Wars movie - The Force Awakens.

Reenroe beach and Ballinskelligs beaches are minutes away where you can swim, fish, play water sports or just relax and build sand castles!

The scenic Skelligs Ring drive is well worth doing as well as part of the Wild Atlantic Way route. Red Cliff House is a great base for seeing the Ring of Kerry and a day trip to Dingle or Killarney town.

The Ballinskelligs area is also the location of The Kerry International Dark-Sky Reserve (KIDSR) and has been designated Ireland's first International Dark Sky Reserve[1] by the International Dark-Sky Association, one of only 3 Gold Tier Dark-Sky Reserves in the world and currently (September 2014) the only Gold Tier Reserve in the Northern Hemisphere. Talks can be arrange locally by the Dark Sky office which is located near to Red Cliff House. It is a very interesting topic for all budding astronomers.

There are many local pubs and restaurants to choose from in the area. One nearby that attracts a lot of visitors is the Skellig Chocolate Factory for all chocolate lovers where you can buy home made chocolate and drink coffee.

Red Cliff House is situated in a quiet and peaceful country location with stunning sea and mountain views. A perfect base to explore the surrounding countryside and the many visitor attractions.

There are lots of places to explore either by bike or on foot. The area is well known for its many loop walks, hill walking and archaeological sites are plentiful including the famous Skellig Michael.

Then after a day out and about just head back to Red Cliff House to relax. Sit outside on the lovely veranda looking out at the sea, cook a BBQ and enjoy the wonderful views the house has to offer. Pure bliss! In fact many of our guest have said this is the highlight of their stay.

Other Activities: Boat trips to Skelligs, angling/fishing, Ring of Kerry, Skellig Ring drive, water sports, walking, cycling, Wild Atlantic Way route.

Golf: GOLF

The local golf course is the world famous Waterville Links, only a short drive away. This is voted one of the top 100 golf courses in the U.S. and the world by Golf Magazine and comes in at number 5 of the top 120 course rankings in Golf Monthly Magazine.

There is also the new Skellig Bay Golf Cliub designed by American Golf Architect Ron Kirby, located in Waterville.
