Why FRANCOIS-XAVIER CHARPENTIER chose Ile d'Oleron

"Les Granges", it's first and foremost about a tradition of holidays spent in Oléron Island. This tradition finds its roots in the fifties, when Georges Charpentier takes his family to Oléron Island on summer vacaction. On foot fishing trips, beaches and dunes, childhood friendships built over the years will lead Jean-Louis, elder son of Georges, to introduce 20 years later Oléron Island to his fiance and future wife.

The young couples immediately falls under Oléron Island's irresistible appeal, which motivates them to come every year on summer vacation with their children. Oléron's charm, its fauna and flora, its regional food, its traditional architecture will overcome the small family's last hesitations: they end up moving permanently to the Island in 1981.

Their house built on a piece of land called "Les Granges" readily becomes a preferred holiday destination for their friends and relatives. A tradition of hospitality emerges from the desire to reveal Oléron's appeal to newcomers.

Almost 25 years later, François-Xavier, Jean-Louis' elder son, decides to open his house to vacationers in order to introduce them to Oléron Island's treasures.

La maison est décorée avec beaucoup de goût et sa clarté est très agréable. tout est beau. calme.

Nous avons apprécié le calme de la propriété et du village. Les propriétaires sont accueillants et sont restés très discrets durant notre séjour mais toujours disponibles si nous avions besoin de quelque chose. La maison est spacieuse et claire. Elle est belle et très bien entretenue. Les pièces sont très agréables. location de belle qualité.

Wir genossen zwei Wochen Ferien im sauberen, zweckmässig eingerichteten und ruhig gelegenen Haus mit schönem Sitzplatz und Garten. Auch die Kinder fanden Haus und Garten toll! Das Fahrrad war für uns das ideale Verkehrsmittel, um einzukaufen und die Insel zu erkunden.

From the A10 Highway take exit 35 (Saintes, Royan, Ile d'Oléron). On the D728 follow Nancras, Marennes. Pass Marennes. After Ile d'Oléron bridge, follow Dolus, St Pierre. Pass Dolus and stay on the D734. Enter St Pierre and stay on the D734. Once you reach Mr. Bricolage (home improvement store) on your right, make a left at the traffic light. Straight on, and then a right to go to La Chefmalière. On the 26 rue du Levant, at the end of the white stone path, your vacation home "Les Granges" awaits you.
