Enjoy the freedom of a real holiday in a typical Tuscan farmhouse!

The city of Lucca: At times we read that the inhabitants of Lucca, The Lucchesi, built their landscape 'as if their only preoccupation were beauty'. It is a varied and generous landscape, abounding in life as well as silences, paths between the woods, meadows and picturesque medieval villages. An island of nature and of history that is situated in the centre of north-western Tuscany, it enjoys an enviable position a few minutes away from the sea and less than an hour by car from Florence. It borders on the province of Pisa, and is surrounded by the Apennine mountains and the spurs of the Apuan Alps. Hemmed in by its walls, the city reveals itself a little it at a time. Only by walking along the narrow streets of the historic centre and visiting the more than one hundred churches and almost the same number of palace can one discover the mystery and magic of a past that abounds in the history, culture and architecture of various epochs. Everything in the city of Lucca is to be seen.

The surroundings: Segromigno Monte is in a pretty village situated at the foot of the slope leading to the plateau of the Pizzorne. This is where the hill starts to climb gently offering picturesque landscape .Besides to many historic villas, like the best known is Villa Mansi,The Parish church of San Lorenzo, built in .872AD is characterized by a soaring bell tower. Inside the church You can admire splendid frescoes of Ademollo, a Romanesque column as well as the Marble Tabernacle of the Pietà by Baccio da Montelupo wich was built in 1519).

Casa Mennone was at once inviting, spacious, breath-taking views, fantastic location and the loveliest of people own the property. We couldn't have have asked for more attentive owners that made our stay so lovely! We want to return again and again!

Perfect home, perfect hosts

  • 5 of 5

Can't recommend Casa Mennone highly enough. The house is charming, with large rooms and bathrooms, and set up to accommodate a large group with comfort. Rooms are quiet and all have a/c. We loved the pool and play spaces for the kids; the hot tub and long, friendly tables both outdoors and inside for relaxing; the views are spectacular and we enjoyed many walks up and down the hills nearby. The kitchen is set up for anything you want to cook, and we especially enjoyed the grill and the wood pizza oven outside. There are 3 refrigerators available! It's an easy drive to beautiful Lucca, and we also found it easy to make daytrips to Pisa, Florence, even Cinqueterre for a day's tour. And as wonderful as the property is: our hosts (Loretta, Elisa and especially Mario!) were unfailingly gracious, helpful and welcoming. Any questions we had were answered immediately, from making sure we had a baby crib, to recommending restaurants and bakeries and grocery stores, to procuring a private chef to cook for us a few times. Mario & his friend Mirko even came and made pizza for us one night and we had SO much fun with them! I honestly can't think of a thing to improve about this place, other than the one very tight turn you have to make on the road to get there from Segromigno ;) but practice made perfect!

Perfect vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

i would highly recommend Casa Mennone to anyone looking for a true Tuscan experience. We had a group of 14 and the house was very comfortable to us. The house is very well suited to large groups or families with different needs with several living areas and comfortable bedrooms in different areas of the house so that people with early morning activities can go to bed early and not be disturbed by others who like to stay up late. All of the bathrooms were spacious and well appointed with large showers or tubs, plenty of room for dressing, etc. Our hosts made us feel like part of their family with our cooking lesson from Loretta, Elisa helping us to set up a tour of a local winery and then also giving us a tour of her honey making operation, Mario helping us out with our grocery shopping on the first day and Guiseppe sharing his wit and humor with us as well as giving us an astronomy lesson and history lesson on their family home. A car is a must for grocery shopping and easy access to Lucca. Florence was an easy drive as were Pisa and Sienna. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub after long days touring and enjoyed the full kitchen with 2 refrigerators and a large gas stove, pizza oven and gas grill for our nights cooking at home. We had one malfunction within the house and the family was on it immediately, getting the issue fixed and following up for the rest of the week to make sure that everything was in good working order. I can't praise the whole experience enough and would give it a 10 Star rating if i could!!

Picture perfect views!

  • 5 of 5

We just finished our week at the villa and can't say enough about our experiences! Villa is beautiful, plenty of room, outside area the best, views over the Tuscan countryside and town of Lucca are breathtaking. We were a party of 14 and fit very comfortably. What made our stay extra special is the family that owns the villa. They opened up their home to all of us. We learned so much about the area and local culture from each family member. A few of our favorite memories were a cooking lesson from Loretta, pizza night when we used the outdoor pizza oven and our visits to The family's organic farm next door. We had a minor household issue during our stay and they were extremely responsive. A car is a must to access supermarkets and to visit Lucca. Lucca is great medieval town. Small and when we were there- free from tourist crowds. Florence, Pisa and Cinque Terra are short train rides away. I highly recommended a stay here. We can't wait until we get to go again!

Absolutely lovely property and incredible hosts!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful way to spend two weeks experiencing Lucca and the beauty of the Tuscan countryside. Villa Mennone is a beautiful, well-maintained sprawling villa that is perfect for large groups. I would venture to say even better than the pictures and impeccably clean. We stayed as a group of 18 adults (not all at the same time or the whole time) and the space was very comfortable with well-appointed bathrooms and maximum comfort. The hot-tub is a treat to use in the late afternoon and the evening and the pool is perfect all day long. The pizza oven, grill, indoor/outdoor dining rooms are great for meals and our recommended chef was fantastic. The bar-room is great with an extra fridge, bar and coffee machines. The upstairs living room area is a nice place to all congregate for meetings and hanging out.

However, we would be totally remiss if we did not mention how amazing Elisa and Loretta were as our hosts. They attended to our every request very quickly and were accessible to us 24 hours a day. They invited us and our children on a tour of their farm and to check out their "lab" where jams, honey and other wonderful products they make are produced. They helped with directions on how to use everything (from espresso machine to washer to pizza oven) and put us in touch with: tour company to take us on wine tours, bike company that came to deliver bikes for us to use and a private chef who prepared and served us a very memorable meal. We have nothing but positive things to say about this family and their beautiful estate. Thank you, Ciambelli family, for a very memorable and worry-free vacation.

Avery special holiday

  • 5 of 5

I could not recommend this villa highly enough. It's setting is stunning, lot's of outside seating areas, great for a little quiet time when on holiday in a large group.

The villa itself is beautiful, very well equipped and thoughtfully decorated but even with all this, the most special part of our holiday was getting to know Loretta and her family, what truly wonderful hosts. By the time we left we were beginning to feel like extended family.

Thank you all for making our stay so special.
