The house is located in the green of the Amalfi hill Pogerola is one of the hamlets on the western side of Amalfi and was the castle of ancient Amalfi’s Maritime Republic, located on the hills above the town, where the population found refuge during the many incursions from the sea.

It is an authentic ancient house of the coast of Amalfi, renovated with love by its owners, who spend their own vacations there; it is in a quiet place inset as it is among the farm and the suburb of Sopramare; you can also quickly reach the heart of Pogerola, with its shops, bars and restaurants by foot, climbing 120 steps on stairway or walking 600 meters on the little way passing near the house.

The apartment consists of a spacious and sunny lounge featuring handmade terracotta floors, antique furniture, a big and comfortable double sofa bed. There is a separate kitchenette with a little electric oven, a dishwasher and a fridge. The bathroom, small but well equipped, is modern and refined with hand painted tiles, a shower box, a sink, a bidet and a toilet. There are two terraces; one located as you enter with a view of the valley and the second bigger one (approximately 25 square meters) with deck chairs, table and chairs from where you can enjoy the magnificent panorama; you can also admire the imposing site of the Monastery of Santa Rosa and the surrounding area of Amalfi. The terraces are in part covered by a shady pergola for your comfort when you eat outside. The house is very cool during the summertime

"We've spent 2 weeks in Pogerola di Amalfi end of August - early September.

It was a wonderful stay. The apartment is even more beautiful than in the photos - excellent view, very nice decoration, all someone could desire is here.

The owners, Anna and Giuseppe are indeed very nice and helpful. All the people in Pogerola and sorroundings were very nice. The restaurants in Pogerola, especially "La Carcara" and "La Capannina", offered excellent services and excellent staff. The stairs connecting the apartment to the Pogerola center, although more than 100, offer another way to admire the places.

Although we've rent a car, it was quite difficult to drive on the coast. We therefore used the "SITA" services, connecting Pogerola by bus with Amalfi and, from Amalfi, to the main sites in the region.

We are definitely recommending this apartment for a special, relaxing and silent holiday in Italy."

"We were met in the centr...

  • 5 of 5

"We were met in the central piazza in Pogerola by Giuseppe. Giuseppe looked at our Fiat Bravo and deemed it too large for the parking space at the apartment, so we parked it in a municipal parking space and he drove us and our bags to the apartment. Later we noticed that the parking was restricted to only 2 hours for non-residents, but although we were there for a week we did not get booked! Being parked a fair distance away meant a reasonable walk to and from the car but the locals are all used to that sort of thing and it helped us avoid putting on too much weight from all the delicious Campanian food.

The unit itself is small, but well-equipped and tastefully furnished, with a view to making the best use of the space. The sofa bed folds out and back very easily. The cutlery and crockery are all matching sets and quite new, and the small dishwasher and washing machine work well.

Giuseppe and Anna greeted us with a gift of local produce - a bottle of Limoncello liqueur and some lemon-flavoured honey. This was a very nice welcoming gesture.

The view is spectacular, and eating a meal or just having a drink on the terrace was a most enjoyable and memorable experience.

Groceries and fresh fruit and vegetables are available in the village, but the opening hours are typical of the region so go in the morning or early evening rather than the afternoon. Restaurants in the village are very good. We tried three and enjoyed them all.

We took Giuseppe and Anna's advice and did not take the car when going into Amalfi due to the difficulty and expense of parking there. Instead we took the bus that leaves frequently from the central piazza in Pogerola. We were able to use our "Campania Cards" on the bus. These are an excellent investment if you are visiting museums or archaeological sites, and using public transport. On one occasion one of us walked down into Amalfi and back using the steep stairs on the hillside - and suffered aching calves for about three days afterwards!

Recommended - Amalfi itself, the villas in Ravello, and taking the ferry from Amalfi to Capri. We drove to Pompeii (not really a good way to get there unless you are comfortable with some of the more extreme varieties of Italian driving). When we went to Naples we drove to Sorrento, parked near the station and took the "Circumvesuviana" train into Naples (also covered on our Campania Cards). You could also take a bus from Amalfi to Sorrento if you preferred.

Driving the Amalfi Coast road has a formidable reputation. We did get more used to it over the course of our week there. You need to be patient, allow more time to get places than you would normally think it would take, and you need to know how wide your vehicle is. If you come from a spacious country like Australia, you will be amazed at the narrow gaps you can squeeze through in safety!

When we left Giuseppe gave us and our luggage a lift back to the carpark. He and Anna were very interested in our experiences, and obviously wanted to make sure that we had enjoyed ourselves. I foolishly left something of value in the apartment and Giuseppe was very helpful in ensuring it was posted on to us at our address in Rome.

In summary - a small but very pleasant apartment, in an extraordinarily beautiful location, with very friendly and hospitable hosts. and comfortable"

"Very well equipped apart...

  • 5 of 5

"Very well equipped apartment, suitable for 2 persons, with a marvellous view from the big terrace. The apartment was even better than the pictures. Pogerola is very nice, with several restaurants. Only disadvantage is the 152 steps up and down. And the very small parking place at the house which only allows smaller cars."

Very nice place to stay for a vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Very nice apartments, beatiful sea-view from the high of 1,5 - 2 km. The rooms are big enough, nice little garden near the doors, all you need for a vacation you can find there. Special thanks to the owners - Giuseppe and Anna are very friendly and hospitable. Very good terrace in the higher room and very cozy place for the rest outdoor on the middle room.

Especially want to notice our favorite restaurant "Trattoria Da Rispoli" not far from that apartments - very nice place and real italian food. But if you want - in the rooms they have everything to cook at home. We had a couple of beautiful dinners at home, watching lightened ships on the sea. Also it's an interesting walk - walk through all stairs down to Amalfi.

Magnifique

  • 5 of 5

Toplocatie

  • 5 of 5
