The 'lady of the house' works from home as a ceramic artist, and as such, is available for your questions at any time.

Waimea is the perfect town. No, really, it is. It's country, yet cosmopolitan, located smack-dab in the middle of one of the largest privately owned cattle ranches anywhere, home to the headquarters of W.M. Keck Observatory, the most scientifically productive telescopes in the world, filled to overflowing with luscious, farm fresh produce (and farmer's markets) that supply the farm-to-table restaurants Merriman's, Red Water Cafe, Village Burger to name just a few, add to that the top-notch cultural hub of the Kahilu Theatre and don't forget that everything is within walking distance, what more could you possibly ask for?

Watch the video: search for KITV News online, once there, search for 'where you live: Waimea' and watch the video! (apologies, but VRBO won't let me post a link)

On the Big Island, you'll absolutely need to rent a car to get around.

About Zoe Johnson

Hi! Thanks for stopping by.

We have lived on the Big Island for 12+ years. We love the outdoor lifestyle, hiking, swimming, kayaking & snorkeling as often as we can. In our humble opinion, Kamuela is an absolute gem of a town, the very best place on the Big Island to live. We love the central location for ease of access to both sides of this amazing place, and can't wait to share some of the greatest insider tips with you!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The suite is beautiful! Brand new and so many thoughtful touches. Beautiful finishings throughout. Loved having two bathrooms for our family of 4, as well as a washer and dryer to use after we we caught in a mid-day shower. The location is great just 1-3 minutes to all of the shops & restaurants in Waimea. We visited two farmers markets on Saturday and the kitchenette was prefect for preparing our dinner and breakfast. The king bed was so comfortable with nice linens and so was the sofabed. The location was quiet and Zoe and Scott were easy to reach by text on our day of arrival and departure. The directions to the home and to access the suite were easy to follow. We didn't need to contact them at all during our stay as the suite had everything we could have asked for! Highly recommend this suite for those coming to explore this part of the Big Island.

Lovely stay at Ginger Hale

  • 5 of 5

We really liked this place. It was very comfortable and our hosts had thought of everything we might need during our visit. The location is excellent for day trips to Kohala area, and easy walk to the center of Waimea. I would definitely recommend this apartment for any couple looking to stay in the Waimea area.

The unit is attached to the main house but has its own private entrance and is in no way overlooked by the neighbours. The apartment came with everything we needed including snorkel gear, beach towels, first aide kit, etc. Overall the unit was well maintained, well equipped (washer/dryer, two bathrooms, tea kettle, and pillow top bed) and VERY clean. Zoe was away during our visit but she was excellent at sending us instructions, contacting us to make sure we arrived safely, and answering any questions we had. Also it was really nice of her to offer to accommodate us early due to a mistake on my part whilst planning the accommodation for our trip.

Thank you Zoe for everything and for providing the PG Tips, not sure it was planned, but after a few days on the island we were desperate for a good cup of english tea :)

Well appointed and comfortable apartment in great location

  • 5 of 5

Very well structured one bedroom apartment has a bedroom separate from the living room and kitchen area with its own bathroom in addition to the bathroom adjacent to the living room. The apartment has everything one may need for a pleasant vacation, including beach chairs, snorkeling gear and much more. The apartment is located minutes away from Waimea Nature Trail along the Waikoloa Stream, perfect for walking or jogging. Evenings are pleasantly cool especially after a day at the beach. Nearby are plenty of good restaurants.

Comfortable and private

  • 5 of 5

It was perfect for us. Zoe greeted us and then gave us privacy. The property was clean, well kept, and well equipped. The king sized bed was very comfortable. The binder of places to visit and eat was helpful. The excellent selection of books was a bonus. Beautiful area!
