About Shelly Campbell

We are life partners (26 years) who decided to buy the house across the street when it came available. Over the course of two years, we gutted and rebuilt it from top to bottom. It comes fully furnished with practical and artistic pieces we created ourselves.

Background: We both grew up trailing our military dads (Army & Air Force) around the world until we grew up and started our adult lives. Still, Shelly calls Michigan her family home and Eileen calls Vermont her home of family origin.

Shelly Campbell purchased this house in 2009

Why Shelly Campbell chose Minnesota

The interior and exterior of the property is in pristine condition, the neighborhood is richly diverse—white, black, Native, Mexican, Hmong, mixed race, gays, rich, poor, middle-class, democrats and republicans—you name it, we've got it. The location (by car) is 5 minutes from downtown St Paul/10 minutes from Minneapolis (to answer the number one question posed by folks: yes, we are 5 minutes from the Xcel Energy Center). A fully-functioning photo studio is located on the backside of the property—need a "Linkedin" photo, or, an update to the ten-year-old family photo? It's free with your 4-night stay! Check out Shelly's photos: search on "Shelly Campbell Studios."

What makes this house unique

You'll walk in and find most everything you need for your stay. This house totally beats staying in a hotel—and, it's a lot cheaper!

Coming late early spring 2016: A new music room with congas, acoustic guitar, and a vibraharp (consider bringing your oboe, flute, harmonica, clarinet, or whatever). The newly-opened upstairs master bedroom includes two xl twin beds with two separate seating areas, and a full walk-in closet.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Avi Gardner sent two of her best company representatives: Kelly and Katie. The two were great guests at the house—even though they were busy running all over the cities passing out Noosa Yogurt samples, they managed to keep the house immaculate, were very quiet and courteous. And, Noosa gained Twin Cities converts: during their stay Kelly and Katie gave us samples, and we've gotta admit, we're now hooked (little did we know, our neighbors already were hooked).

Just right

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here eight days and the house was just right for us. Most important to us was the proximity to our family that lives in St. Paul. They were just 15 minuets north of Shelley's.

We needed three bedrooms and more than one bath and all my searching led us to Shelley's as the best deal and providing what we needed. It was pretty warm in the cities when we were there but the bedroom window units and the numerous fans helped a lot with the heat.

If we do the week-long, family reunion event next year we'd try to stay at Shelley's again.

Splendid St Paul Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

The Two Muses' Home does not disappoint! We loved our stay with all the amenities of a fully stocked home and the 1.5 BA was a BIG plus for us (6ppl). A great location in a quiet neighborhood, walking distant to restaurants and a quick drive to downtown. Great communication and hospitality from the owner, Shelly! Would we recommend this place to our friends & family and come back again? You betcha!!

Owner's Response: Oh, how fun - six good friends from all walks of life coming together for the wedding of a mutual friend, something akin to the movie "The Big Chill." If only I could bring together old chums and live under one roof for three days - I'd have as much of a blast as Candy and her cohorts did. Amidst their busy schedule, they left the place spotless, and were great neighbors!

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

A great trip to St. Paul for an Adele concert was made even better by staying here! Shelly kept in touch with me prior to our arrival, and met us at the house. She showed us around and pointed out a lot of details in the house, including the bottle of wine waiting for us. The artwork, musical instruments, books and magazines, well-stocked cupboards and fridge, bikes, and patio/grill left us wanting for nothing. The house is as described in the listing, and the photos show you all the rooms and amenities. It's clean and well-maintained; it's clear that Shelly and Eileen take pride in the house and its contents, and want their guests to be comfortable and feel at home. The house is a 5-minute drive to the Xcel Center, River Centre, Science Museum, and most everything in downtown St. Paul. And only 15-20 minutes to other places we visited in Minneapolis, like the Mall of American and Guthrie Theater. Throughout our stay, Shelly was always available to answer questions or give us suggestions, or just visit with. We also took advantage of her photography studio being on the back of the property and had family photos taken (all of which have received rave reviews). Staying in a house is so much better than a hotel, and this house was perfect for my two sons, my niece and me. I hope to stay there again on future trips to St. Paul, and have already recommended it to several friends. Thanks, Shelly and Eileen, for giving us a home away from home for our little family get-away.

Owner's Response: I think that anybody who loves music hoped to score tickets to the Adele concert at the X, but Judy, along with her two sons and niece, were among the lucky ones. All three of the young adults were amazingly mature and sweet folks, and obviously their mother/aunt Judy has been a great example for them. They left the house spotless, and the neighborhood a little richer with their good karma.

"Home Away From Home"

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay in this art-filled home, and hope to visit again! Everything was provided to make us feel comfortable ... linens, toiletries, stocked kitchen, laundry detergent, etc. The back deck was quiet and relaxing, and a gas grill was available for our use as well. Shelly was a wonderful host and greeted us personally our first day. She was also available during the week for any questions (and we had fun with our family "photo shoot"!). The home is located in a great neighborhood, close to bike and running paths, restaurants, coffee, and a bridge to the city. We found it an easy drive to all of the colleges we visited with our daughter, as well as to Lake Minnetonka and Stillwater. Our week went by quickly, and this certainly felt like our "home away from home". Thank you so much!

Owner's Response: Cynthia, Milo, and Serena were really great folks to meet and get to know! They left the place spotless, and it was fun to take family photos, with the spotlight on beautiful and talented Serena (who seems oblivious to the fact that she could be a model). Here's hoping the family comes back for a return visit someday!

Very nice and clean.

  • 5 of 5

Very home feeling. Way cleaner than hotel rooms and space to hang out and not feel cramped. Would very much recommend this rental. Owner was very nice and available for questions at any time.

Owner's Response: Denise and her family are really nice folks. Very respectable of the house, the neighbors (it helps that she actually lives in the hood!), and just nice people. True confession: Both Eileen and I wanted to run over and hug Jesus when we saw him watering the plants outside. What a sweetheart!

Lovely place, lovely people!

  • 4 of 5

I love stepping in to places like this.

The house is lovely. Clean and bright. Nicely decorated with little idiosyncratic things: a conga, exotic percussion instruments, art books, and coolest of all unique metal and wood sculptures and handmade custom furniture. Practicality-wise, the place is nicely appointed. Very functional. The beds are comfortable and the rooms large.

Cool place and nice experiences with one of the owners.

The house is located in a quiet neighborhood just south of downtown St Paul, and 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. There are many museums in the Twin Cities, including the Science Museum of Minnesota, The Children's Museum, The Walker Art Museum,, Minneapolis Institute if Arts, as well as international theater such as the Guthrie (and a multitude of local live theater options). If you're into sports, we've got the new Vikings Stadium being built, Target Field, and the Saint Paul Saint's newly completed outdoor stadium. And shopping? Try Grand Avenue in Saint Paul (6 minutes from the house), or check out the Mall of America (only 15 minutes away). Restaurants are toooooooo numerous to mention—we love to eat, and we've got the whole gamut of fine eateries in the Twin Cities! Check the Guest Manuel for a list and our personal reviews, some with photos.
