Upper NY Cabin Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Spent a 3 night Anniversary getaway in this cabin in October 2015 . I traveled with my husband and our 3 year old lab. House is pet friendly my #1 reason for booking this house! Owners are great and respond fast to you emails. Beautiful updated newer house! I love owners taste in decorating everything!! This cabin is not located directly on lake but there is a short walk down the road to a small beach like area. Was very rocky in my opinion don't know how comfortable it would be laying out in the summer there. Within 1 to 2 miles of the home is the small town of Northville. Not much to do here in my opinion , but if you want an escape from everything might be perfect for you. We ate at the small diner for breakfast one day which was good. Filled with all the locals. Fair price's. Also a small grocery store is in town which came in very handy cause we choose to eat most meals in. We did a lot of hiking on NPT. Not sure why there is a sign in book in the center of town approximately 3 to 4 miles away from the start of the trail. So be warned not to get confused by that as we did. Not much else to do in this area. We did drive back to Amsterdam a much more built up town with lot of chain restaurants and stores. We brought our own towels, sheets, and kitchen items which I preferred rather then having to wash what they have there for you. Four bedrooms, beds are on the smaller size with all being doubles except for a queen up in the loft. Mattresses are firm. One bedroom in located below ground in basement. Small fire pit outside but weather didn't cooperate for us to get a chance to use it. This is not a dinky run down cabin you find at many lakes, so you will be pleasantly surprised with how nice the house is.

Little northern NY Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The house is beautiful!!! I am in love with the owners design choices! Spent a three night stay in October 2015 as a last minute getaway for an anniversary trip. The cabin / house has four bedroom three above grade. I traveled with my husband and our three year old lab. The house does not sit directly on the lake but very close by is a small beach like area. Within 2 miles of house is the Northville town center. There is in my opinion not to much to do here, but that can be perfect for some. We did a lot of hiking in the NPT which took a bit to find. Not sure why they have a starting point for this trail and a sign in book in town three or four miles from start of the trail. We ate at the little diner in town for breakfast one morning. The grocery store came in handy. the name has changed of the change now called TOPS if I'm remembering correctly. We also drove back to Amsterdam town area which is much more built up.many of the chain restaurants and larger department stores. Owners were responsive quickly! Again house is new and beautiful! We brought our own towels and linens and kitchen supplies which I found to be easier than using the ones provided and then having to wash them.

Nicely appointed and Beautifully decorated

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at a beautiful new house. There were 5 adults in our party and we were comfortable. Everything was very clean and taken care of. I don't know if this house was built specifically as a rental, if it was they didn't skimp on furnishings or appliances. We travel to different parts of the Adirondacks every year in October and if we return to this area we will stay there again. We had a fun day shopping in the village of Northville, and had dinner out at the sports bar that is in walking distance. We opted to prepare most of our meals -- I would recommend bringing pans or baking sheets if needed...they do provide cookware but if you are used to particular types/sizes you will want to be prepared. We did have to get a new propane tank and found that both the Stewarts and Rite Aid in the village supply them. We got some firewood down the road which was totally wet and green we found out as we could not get it to burn and then found another place with a sign that reads "DRY firewood." Wish we had seen that first!! But there's a hint for anyone wanting a fire!

They do send a detailed list of expectations which I found helpful. My only complaint is not at all with the owners or their property but rather the method of communication provided by this site. Crystal was very prompt at replying to my questions (I know this because it lists the accumulation of hours since the inquiry) but the site was delayed in getting her responses to me. We did better through private emails. Another hint!

Great Week!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, myself, and our two children (ages 3 and 17 months) stayed here for a week in August. The house was very clean and cozy, and easily accessible from the Thruway. It has a nice outdoor patio and fire pit, and a good sized yard with big trees to relax under. All appliances worked well. The kitchen is minimally stocked with pots/pans/cleaning & paper products, etc. During our week we spent time at the small beach about two blocks away and the state park beach about 5 mins away by car, both of which the kids loved. We rented a kayak at the state park, they also had canoes available. Good food at the nearby restaurant, the Sport Island Pub, which seems to maintain the beach next to it, has a dock you can boat to, a volleyball net, and a bounce house for the kids. We also ate at The Alpine Grille which was amazing. We did several easy hikes in the surrounding area (Northville-Placid trail to Woods Lake, Hope Falls, Bleecher Creek Falls, Willie Wildlife Marsh), which were beautiful (with the exception of the Willie Wildlife Marsh, which was totally overgrown and not interesting). During our week the Perseid Meteor Shower was at its peak, so we watched shooting stars from the campfire in the evenings, which was quite special. I would definitely recommend this house!
