This thatched detached cottage is peacefully situated at the end of a no through lane, in a small village midway between Devizes and Salisbury. The cottage is full of character, with beams, a large inglenook fireplace and cottage kitchen. The garden is a delight, with a patio area and steps up to another seating area overlooking the fields. There is also a summerhouse in the corner from which to enjoy watching the visiting birdlife. There are footpaths from the door onto Salisbury Plain, and the area is ideal for cyclists. Devizes is a historic market town with a colourful medieval past. The town enjoys a rich heritage of fine Georgian houses and a 19th century castle built on the site of a Norman stronghold. Wadworth’s celebrated brewery remains in its original town location and their brewer’s dray drawn by mighty Shire Horses is a regular and much-loved sight on the streets. One of the UK’s most iconic canals, the Kennet & Avon Canal, passes through Devizes and the famous flight of 29 locks are easily accessible on foot. Salisbury is known as the city in the countryside, and named by Lonely Planet as one of the world’s top 10 cities to visit in 2015. With timbered buildings, an Early English Gothic Cathedral home to the famous Magna Carta, a thriving market, a buzzing arts scene, museums and some of England’s finest historic houses, there are many things waiting to be explored. Other nearby attractions to visit include the stone circles at Stonehenge (2 miles) and Avebury, Lacock, Marlborough and the city of Bath, as well as Longleat and Stourhead. Shop, pub and restaurant 1¾ miles.
