Darren and Lisa Kerr have lived in the Bay Area for 25 years. We moved here to be closer to the hub of technological development, and fell in love with the unique beauty of Northern California and the wonderful people we have come to know. Our family of five loves hiking, playing volleyball, going to baseball games, golfing, making artwork, and especially eating out. Our amazing property manager, Amanda Szescei, lives a short bike ride away. She's lived in Santa Cruz, Maui, Palo Alto, and Southern California and can help you with anything you need to know to have a wonderful vacation.

We first appreciated the beauty of this specific location while at a plein air painting workshop. When we learned this property was available and had the opportunity to take in the views from the upstairs deck, it took about 30 seconds before we both said, 'YES!!!'.
What makes this House unique
The upstairs dining room provides stunning views of the bay and surf crashing on the rocks and beach. Adjacent is a comfortable living room where your family and friends can hang out and relax in the company of beautiful Monterey Bay. The galley style kitchen is open to the dining and living rooms and also has stunning views, so it's hardly work to be delegated food prep duties. Two of the bedrooms and beautifully remodeled bathrooms are also upstairs. The upstairs deck in the front overlooks the ocean, and then wraps around to a larger and more sheltered deck in the back with comfortable outdoor furniture and a large gas bbq. The spacious back yard has room for volleyball or yard games and rustic fire pit. The downstairs great room boasts a wall of windows facing the ocean, premium cable for catching sports or movie at night and large light-filled space perfect for morning yoga. Two other two remodeled bathrooms and two comfortable bedrooms are also downstairs. We have seven beach cruiser bikes to share, along several boogie boards, skim boards, and a few wet suits. We have 6 beach chairs and 1 beach umbrella. We have a ping pong/pool table in the garage. We ask that you enjoy the games in the garage, but close the automatic garage door during quiet hours. (The noise from the pool table/ping pong games can disturb the neighbors.) You are steps away from the popular West Cliff sidewalk and bike path. From here there are stairs down to the ocean. Lighthouse Park and beach is a ten minute walk along the West Cliff sidewalk to your left, while Natural Bridges beach is just a mile along the same path to your right. The Santa Cruz Boardwalk is a mile and a half away - easy for the family to bike in ten minutes; though you will probably stop along the way to take photos or mental snapshots, as there's always something to catch your eye - seals, otters, even the occasional whale sighting.

This house is just perfect for people who want relax and watch the ocean. Of course, you can also easily go down to the sand if you want but for people who just want to hear the ocean waves this is the place for you! The house is beautiful with all the amenities and more. This was our second stay there and we will be back!
Amazing... as always
It's always tough to come up with something new to say about this property. This was our 4th stay and it seems to get better each time. The Kerr family definitely cares about this property and the comfort of their guests. Each time we have visited, there has been a new improvement/upgrade. This time, the kitchen, windows and flooring had been completely upgraded. The kitchen is amazing now!! There are also new bikes added to the collection available to guests, which my kids thoroughly enjoyed.
The house next door is still under construction, which Amanda was kind enough to email us in advance to warn us about, but the workers there were very respectful of the construction hours. They didn't start making any noise until 8:00 each morning and even then, it was barely enough noise to notice over the sounds of the passing cars and crashing waves.

We spent 8 days at this residence with six adults and two grand children (3 1/2 and 1 1/2 years old). It was great having four bedrooms and four full baths. The views from the deck and upstairs rooms are fantastic. The property is right across the road from the beach and a great walking path and the people watching is great. The property is close to a park, Safeway, great coffee, bakery and restaurant/brew pubs and only a couple of miles away from the Boardwalk. We have stayed in a number of VRBO/AIRBNB places around the country and the world and without a doubt, this was the best equipped in terms of kitchen utensils, condiments, spices, paper towels, and many other niceties. And the garage has 8 or 10 bicycles that are available for use, a couple of kayaks, ping pong and pool tables, croquet for the yard, sand tools and much more. The back yard is large and has plenty of outdoor furniture and the back deck is also well equipped with furniture and a gas barbecue. In short, the place is just great and we will definitely be back.
The only downsides, and they are minor, are the beds are pretty hard, which bothered some members of my family, the beach across the street is overrun with seaweed and has a pretty bad odor when you are on it (but nothing reaches the house and lovely Light House Beach is only a 10 minute walk away) and the house next door is having a major remodel that has been going on for a long time. The owners told us about this before hand and we were actually quite concerned about the noise but it turned out to be very minor and we are so, so glad that we didn't change our mind as the place is definitely five star.
If you want a water view in Santa Cruz, it would be very hard to beat this place. We recommend it very highly.
BEWARE! PROPERTY NOT AS ADVERTISED! DECEPTIVE LISTING!
We arrived 06/12/19 to find a construction site job permit posted in the front window. The advertised "gorgeous view" from the deck was blocked by plywood panels. The main floor was in the process of being replaced. Kitchen, dining room, family room hall and staircase landing covered in Paper Ram Board. New paint job mistakes marked in blue tape on 2 walls in dining room. Unfinished wall/sheetrock behind stove/oven. No baseboards. Rough cut floor edges - not finished. Family Room/Kitchen had large unfinished ugly beam with texturing overspray, rough cut sheetrock. Upstairs hallway main bath had no blinds on window-zero privacy due to construction workers on scaffolding next door just feet away. Upholstered window seat and couch pillows dirty. Master bed comforter stained! Deck & deck furniture DIRTY and covered in spider webs. Several rusty down spouts laying across patio furniture and walkway. Garage is advertised as clean and organized. Actual condition of garage was dirty, filled with storage items and construction materials. We arrived to a full and overflowing trashcan.
We arrived during US OPEN week when area accommodations were fully booked. We reserved and paid for this home almost a year in advance and chose this home for the beautiful view of the ocean from the interior and exterior of the home, AS ADVERTISED. The actual view was obliterated. Owner also mentioned that the next door home was completing a plastering job. The next door house was in FULL construction mode with lumber, electric saws, pneumatic hammers & drills from 7:00 am every day. We could not open windows due to construction noise and loud music. 18 Days prior to arrival, the owner emailed us saying that the "LEFT side of the front deck was waiting for glass railing attachments" but we would still have a great view. We arrived to the ENTIRE front deck covered in plywood. 2 Days prior to our arrival, the Mgr. emailed to let us know that a "few bad boards" from the flooring project would be covered in a patch. The ENTIRE dining room, kitchen, family room hall and stair landing was covered in paper Ram Board. We elected to stay because the town was full and we did not want to waste precious vacation time trying to find other arrangements for 8 people while traveling to/from the US OPEN . We tried to resolve the issue w/ the owner quietly without negative posting or litigation. Owner has only offered 22% discount regardless of his deceptive posting. BEWARE!
This was THE rental for our family! From check in to check out everything went perfectly. The kitchen is beautifully equipped with everything we needed. Once we settled in we decided to make all our meals there. No one wanted to leave the view! The newly renovated bathrooms all had full size containers of shampoo, conditioner, soap and plenty of nice towels. The bikes (complete with locks) in the garage were great for cruising to the Boardwalk and nearby restaurants.
We even were able to play some croquet with the set that was in the garage.
The living spaces in and out gave us plenty of room to spread out and to be together. The owners really seem to care about their guests. We definitely will be back!
Great location and beautiful view
What a great house for our girl’s weekend get away. The ocean view from the patio was mind blowing for us Texas girls. We enjoyed our stay at West Cliff Azure and I would book again. I do recommend pillow tops as the mattresses are a little stiff but don’t let that stop you from this cozy home.
